Is Jon Kitna for real? (1 Viewer)

Thumper

I have always thought Jon Kitna was a pretty good qb. But, of late it seems that Jon Kitna has raised his game to the next level. I'm sure the Mike Martz factor has something to do with it.

That said I still don't have the guts to use Kitna on a consistant basis. But, every time I say that he burns me.

So, with that in mind I think I'm going to give him a chance tomorrow (over Tom Brady) vs the 49ers at home.

I'm just interested to see what people think about Kitna going forward. Is he a top 10 qb? Top 5?

I have full confidence in Kitna the rest of the year. Its very rare that you can find someone in the last round of the draft that you can count on for 250yds and 1-2 TDs EVERY week but I do believe that Kitna is that guy.

He seems to be the fantasy version of Tom Brady 3 years ago when Brady was the guy who posted nearly the same numbers EVERY week. I fully expect him to continue like he has been.

The same thing happened with Kitna a few years ago in Cincy. He is a good QB. He's just a journeyman. He's a good start over a mid-tier QB. I'd start him over Brady this week. I'd rank him a top 10. He has a tough schedule ahead of him.

Stuck with Hass on the shelf - just made a big move for Kitna. He has SF and AZ next two weeks - OC who loves to throw and good weapons to use - whats not to like? He is already #7 in my league - I see him top 5 within 2 weeks.

Dolphins, Patriots and Vikings the 3 weeks after that. He'll take a considerable hit during that time.

Hoping Hass will be ready to go by then but even not I have more faith in him in that offense than most other non Peyton/McNabb QBs

I do not thinks so. Miami and Minny are VERY good defenses against the run, not the pass. Minny is the top defense against the run (yards allowed and 2nd in ypa). But, against the pass, they are 18th in pass yards given up and 9th in average yards per attempt. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/min2006.htmMiami defense excels against pass yards but give up a ton of TDs and few ints. They are 4th in pass yardage given up and 25th in TDs given up with 13 in 8 games. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/mia2006.htm

New England is the opposite of Miami. They are tops in the league on pass TDs given up with 6. But, are 28th in the league in pass yards given up. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nwe2006.htm

My point is that each of these pass defenses are in the lower half of the NFL in some of the pass defense categories. In addition, each of these defenses are great versus the run which should make the Lions pass more often. I think back to the New Englans/Minny game where the Pats figured out early on that the way to attack Minny was through the air and not on the ground running into the Wiliams'.

With Martz in the house, I had my eye on Kitna since day one. Right now, I've got him and Vick as my QBs and start whoever has the best matchup. Of course, this week they BOTH do....

Well Thumper.....

First) Kitna is for real

Second) I say perhaps top 5, 6, 7, 8 - Not Too Bad (NTB)

Third) I believe he is a better start than Brady this week

Fourth) I am considering starting him over Brady myself

Now is that :loco: or is it smart

I am in the same boat.....Palmer or Kitna

I very rarely like to pat myself on the back, but I knew going into this season that Kitna was being wayyy undervalued. I figured he'd be a borderline QB1 and he's even exceeded my expectations....I think he's QB6 in my league right now. What was his ADP....QB22? QB25?

One of the few right calls I made this offseason, so I'll toot my horn. :bag:

Moving forward, I don't have to make any tough calls (like him vs Bulger, Brady, Palmer, etc)...He's the Best QB I have in a couple leagues. I'd be suprised if he wasn't top 10 moving forward. It just seems to be clicking for him right now.

Few people seem to remember that Kitna had a very good year with the Bengals in 2003, with almost 3600 yards passing, 26 td's and 15 int's. He is not devoid of talent. The Bengals decided in 2004 that the time to start Palmer had come, but it wasn't because Kitna was incompetent.

Under Martz, he has flourished.

One of my few good moves of the season. I got so much grief at the beginning of the season because I targeted Kitna in every one of my leagues. I picked up near the end of the draft in every redraft and picked him up cheap in every dynasty league. I won my championship with him when he was in Cincy and will give a run at the championship with him in 4 of my leagues this year.

The guy was a top-10 QB in 1999 and 2003, and you wait until ten weeks into this season to ask if he's for real?

You guys (plus the weather in New England) have convinced me. I'm going w/ Kitna over Brady this week.

Just because I think he's for real doesn't mean I think you should start him over Brady. ;) Edit: looking at the head-to-head, there was only 1 week where starting Brady would have been a significant help, and that was the week Kitna had his BYE.
