Weekly game stats show that the Bengals Def. is giving up yards and TD's to individual players. It appears they may be

shutting down their opponents' top WR's.

Week 1 v. the Broncos may be an anomaly in terms of shutting down top WR, as the Broncos were a mess with

B-Marsh week 1. The Stokely TD was that flukey deflection play.

Marshall targeted 7 times and had 4 catches.

So Andre Johnson owners, you know the old adage in fantasy football: Never bench your studs.

Do you follow it today?

Some folks around here wondered if they should bench him in week 4 when he faced Asomugha and the Raiders.

He delivered a stinker with 8 targets, 2 receptions for 66 yards.

Look what Walter did when Houston played Oakland two weeks ago b/c I thought the same thing as you are asserting today - 1 catch for 41 yards. Last week vs. AZ when there should have been plenty of love to go around, he was 4 for (less than 50).....Between AJ and Daniels this year, there has not been much left for Walter. Don't get me wrong, he is a good receiver, just not being used the same way he was last year up to this point. You may be right and it changes today, he is just not a receiver you can start with confidence at this point.

I'm starting AJ, no question. If he fails to match my expectations, I'll live with it.

where do you drop AJ to for this week? I have AJ in two leagues, in one I can bench him for Calvin, Knox, Henry or Caldwell. Calvin seems out, so AJ is in.

In the other I can bench him for Maclin. Somewhat more tempting but I can't do it.

I'd lean in the same direction--Cinccy is running a bracket of some sorts, doubling the opponents top WR to the point they've combined for a total of 5-45-0 in 5 gamesI wouldn't fight that had I options I felt comfortable starting if say AJ was on a bye

These types of moves that are essentially owners outsmarting themselves are always risky. If it works, then you are a Shark, if it fails, your an idiot.

The no brainer move is to blindly start studs like Andre Johnson every week. But the reality is, studs do deliver duds.

If you have Kevin Walter and are in need of a BYE week fill-in, he is always a candidate to give you borderline WR1 numbers but to say that he will consistently get higher numbers than AJ whenever the Texans meet a Top 10 pass DEF makes me wish you were in my money league since you're the type that will sit AJ in favor of Walter. Carry on.

Not saying that at all about Walter. Was simply putting it out there that last week, fantasy players and people around here were acknowledging that the Bengals pass D was shutting down opponents top WR's and therefore shying away from their top starters. That trend continued with Mason getting shut out. Was just gauging whether or not those same people felt that this concern of the Bengals D shutting down opponents' top WR was in fact applicable to a stud WR like Andre Johnson.Similar to the other responses posted above to this , I am going with AJ. Why else would you draft him where you did if you aren't going to start him? The thought crosses your mind as you plan your lineup and look at managing the risk, but in the end, there is simply no way you can justify benching him.

Same here. But it's hard when you have really good bench WRs. I'm probably starting AJ and Sims-Walker over Roddy White and Vincent Jackson.
