Is Laraunt Robinson the new Austin Collie? (1 Viewer)

It's starting to seem like his place on the depth chart is irrelevant, much like the situation with Austin Collie. Both number 3 wide receivers, but seem to play like fantasy 1's in their current situations. I didn't catch all of yesterday's game. Was Robinson the 3,or was he just subbing in a lot in two receiver sets?

I would compare him to Jordy Nelson, but he seems more consistent at the moment.

From what I saw he was rarely in on 2-WR sets. I would estimate he was only in on about 1/3 of snaps. He appeared to get most of his targets/receptions less as a primary receiver and more after plays broke down and Romo was on the move. The dude just finds a way to get open, especially around the end zone.

He really didn't look that open on the TD but Romo just chucked it. Witten was WIDE open in the flat with room to run and would've probably scored or been down at the 2 or 1 yd line. I thought Romo kind of forced that one (looked like zone coverage Laurent was just slicing through and went up to get it between 3 guys).

He's most definitely the 3rd WR. Miles and Dez in on base sets. And teams dedicate coverage to Miles and Dez leaving LR on the nickel CB. Who's the most likely to get open, Dez and Miles getting top CB attention plus safety help or LR against the 3rd CB? Romo does usually throw to the open guy.

Edit: Dallas' base offense is 2WR and either 2TE or 1TE/1FB. It is only 3rd down offense or 2 minute drill when they go 3WR. This is in contrast to Indy's base offense which is 3WR. So LR won't be on the field for as many snaps as Collie or Indy's 3rd WR. To expect LR to put up Collie numbers isnt feasible on a weekly basis. He's not on the field enough.

FWIW:

(KFFL) The Dallas Cowboys are likely to use more three-receiver sets after the injury to RB DeMarco Murray (ankle). The Cowboys will not be able to utilize RB Felix Jones in the same way that Murray was used.

The guy has always shown flashes of talent. Just couldn't stay healthy. It'd be nice to see him stay healthy as a WR3 in Dallas, but he's one of the biggest injury red flags in the wide reciever market. Given that plus his reduced role next year when everyone is healthy I don't think he'll be anything close to Collie 2010.

Is he signed through next year in Dallas? He could move on and have a bigger role somewhere else.

He's a free agent after the season. He's stated publicly that he wants to come back to Dallas though. And I suspect Dallas would like to have him back.

Well, that's what guys in the last year of their contract usually say until another team comes along with starter's money. I know Dallas would LIKE to keep him as a WR3, but sometimes that's easier said than done after a guy proves he's capable of a bigger role.
