Is Max Hall the starting Qb in Arizona by 2011? (1 Viewer)

I need to do some more digging on his actual skill, but the next capable QB in arizona seems to have good weapons when the time comes.....Fitz, Breaston, wells, hightower....

Max Hall is just another John Beck type of BYU crap.

I will always hate Max Hall for the things he said about the UofU. He is a hated man in Utah. I just don't see how he would be an NFL starting QB. I would not bank on that.

Ok. Well, bye.

He won't be an NFL starting QB because he said bad things about Utah? Hell, I'd think that would probably be a pretty positive indicator, truth be told. After all, Alex Smith has had nothing but positive things to say about Utah, and look how he turned out.

Yeah, I'm not sure how this plays into Max taking over or not. Your hatred of him for his comments to a college have no bearing on his success in the NFL, unless those two comments were meant to be taken separately and not together.

I had asked about this same question in an earlier thread and didn't get any responses. Skelton seemed like the guy to have and draft on your ff team. To be honest, I never even heard of Hall until some digging after our ff draft. Not to mention being surprised to see him listed as the #2 qb on the team.

Aside from that though, I have not heard any news on either of these guys from the start of camp. But, Hall has to be #2 for a reason. Knowing Anderson played horrendously in week 1 and I anticipate it to be equally as bad in week 2, talk will start about looking into the next starter so I jumped on Hall this week on waivers.

First off, here's the deal on Max Hall and his comments about Utah, according to Wikipedia:

On November 28, 2009 Hall and his team won a close game against the Utah Utes in overtime 26-23. After the game, Hall commented that "I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, I hate their fans, I hate everything." When asked about these comments later, Hall stated, "I think the whole university, their fans and their organization, is classless."[5]Hall further stated that the rivalry between Utah and BYU hurt him the most when Utah fans harassed members of his family by spitting on them, dumping beer on them, and even physically assaulting them. Hall said that various fans said "vile" things about his mother, wife and religion. He said that his family had to be escorted to their car by police after the game on November 28, however authorities have yet to corroborate the alleged police escort. The Mountain West Conference reprimanded Hall for his comments, stating that he had violated a MWC sportsmanship rule. Hall later apologized for his comments, clarifying that they were directed only towards those fans whom he felt had harassed his family.
I don't get what the big deal about that is. If fans of a school's football team spit on my family, poured beer on them, and physically assaulted them, all while saying vile things about my mother, wife, and religion, I probably wouldn't have very complimentary things to say about that fan base, either.

According to Peter King, The Whiz said that Max Hall played the best of any QB on the entire roster over camps and preseason. His emergence was a big reason why Matt Leinart was let go- not only did Arizona feel comfortable with him as their top backup, but they also felt that the chances of slipping him through to the practice squad were pretty much nonexistent.

Thank you. Glad I made the move this week. Any other thoughts from anyone on Hall? Or Skelton for that matter?

Am I correct saying that Hall has accuracy but arm strength is not a benefit he has?
I've read he's also got a pretty good head on his shoulders and makes quick decisions. You don't need a rocket arm to be successful. Look no further than Kurt Warner. He has an ok arm (by NFL standards) - but he had a HOF career because he was just a good football player. Not saying Hall is going to be that good, just trying to illustrate that you don't need a cannon to be successful.

He's also a little older (age 25, according to the lineup dominator) than your average NFL rookie.

John Skelton
 Ship has sailed
Has not.Not saying it won't, there's no merit to what you say.
Agreed. The race between Skelton and Hall is a marathon, not a sprint. Hall has a strong early lead, but it's all about who's ahead at the end of the race, not the beginning. With that said... Hall has a huge head start, so Skelton better really pick it up if he doesn't want to get left in the dust.

John Skelton
 Ship has sailed
 yep, after a whole pre-season and one week, the project QB's career is over. SSOG makes a good point, if Hall takes over this year and does well, Skelton may have to look elsewhere, but this is far from over.
Yes because that is EXACTLY what I said... :lmao: Just saying, the crowd that seems to dismiss Hall simply because he was undrafted and are penciling in Skelton to automatically take over need to re-evaluate things.

We must use the term "ship has sailed" differently, but I agree with your meaning then.

yeah, was probably too harsh

So whats the word on this guy? Any rumors after the Atlanta game about possible short leash on DA?
DA has lived his whole NFL life with a 3 inch leash. It's like a dog which can't find his way home; in this case, he can find his way home, but can't find his receivers.

this wrong with all the interceptions he threw to Utah during their games he obviously had a secret crush on the school! I mean it was at a point where Bronco wanted to have the BYU wr's wear Red as their was a better chance the ball would be throw to them.

I think Hall gets a start before week 9. Not sure how he'll do with it, but I'm betting he gets his shot this season.

Trying to see if he's worth a stash on the bench in a 2QB league.

For those keeping track at home. In the Atlanta blowout Hall was given one-drive to show what he had. He threw an interception on his first pass.

:)

It's no surprise Hall outplayed Skelton in preseason, but to sum it up without giving a scouting report, Hall has limited upside. He just doesn't have a lot of the tools you need to succeed as a starter in the NFL. That said, Hall is smart, mature, & had lots of PT at a major college.

Skelton is somewhat of a project, but also played very well in training camp. Big-time upside. I have no idea what will happen this season, but I really like Skelton as a stash guy in dynasty leagues.

I think so. Those league are very scarce at QB.
I'm thinking so. I can drop Campbell and Hall would have Fitz, breaston, Beanie and Hightower as weapons if he ever got a shot. Its a long shot but probably worth a look.

This is my thinking as well. If he does get his shot, he will have toys at his disposal.

Any thoughts on Max from today's game?
Yes, he's no more of an answer than Derek Anderson was. It's funny, I just dropped Hall two days ago to make room for Torain. Normally, I'd be pissed at my bad timing. But really, it won't matter. This team is a disaster. As I said in the Anderson thread, it makes you appreciate Warner that much more.

Unlike Anderson, he can throw balls within 5 yards of his intended target. As I stated before the year, this team will only go as far as Beanie takes them. If he doesn't get on track/isn't force feed the ball, the Cards will win no more than 5 games this year. -------------------They (SD) blitzed the hell out of Hall and his O-line did him no favors. He looked as good as you'd expect a rookie thrown in the middle of a game -- overwhelmed. He's no worse option than Anderson is now. Whether they go to him next week against the world champs is TBD. I see no reason to wait personally until after the bye to insert him. Whiz stated post-game he'd look at tape to determine who'll start. Hope he watches all 4 weeks where he's overthrown, overthrown, overthrown his intended targets. When you're overthrowing 6'4 - 6'5 WR's by 5 feet consistently, something's wrong mechanically. Really tiresome.

Redraft, I would avoid Hall like the plague. He's an undrafted rookie. Remember that.

Dynasty, I'm excited to see Hall getting snaps so we can evaluate him and make some decisions on him long-term. He's in a pretty good situation over the long run. I'm not expecting much performance, but I'm hoping to see some reasons for optimism about his future.

If he can simply complete 60% of his passes and not throw 2+ INTs a game he'll be a massive improvement.Plus he is much more mobile than Leinart or DA were.

So they'll be shoving Hall outta the way so they can get a good look at Skelton by what, week 6?

Just the way they've handled the QB situation there this year has been so odd.

Not really. Hall was the best QB through all of camps and preseason. The Whiz said so himself. The Cardinals started Anderson because they thought he gave them the best chance to win in the actual games, because they didn't know how the rookie would react under the big lights, but clearly Derek Anderson doesn't give them the best chance to win, so you might as well roll out Hall and see what he can do, letting him take his lumps in the process.

That is a bit of an exaggeration. Peter King claimed that Whisenhunt told him that Hall was the best of the four quarterbacks in training camp. But King did not actually quote Whisenhunt directly, and Whisenhunt never verified King's claim, and he never said anything publicly about Hall's status (despite being asked numerous times at press conferences, etc.) The only source is a one-on-one conversation between Whisenhunt and Peter King. And neither King nor Whisenhunt ever said anything about Hall being the best QB through the preseason games, IIRC.

Max Hall looked as bad as DA. Fitz owners need to dump him for whatever warm body WR you can get while he still has a a few believers that he's a buy low.
