Is Miles Austin a Buy Low? (1 Viewer)

RushHour

Just wanted to get some thoughts on whether people think he will turn it around this year. Romo isn't throwing deep to him so he's kind of the odd man out at the moment and maybe he's a bit slow coming back off the injury? Not sure if he's a guy worth targeting or not.

Strange whats going on with him. Before the hammy injury he was a top 5 guy. A must start every week. Not anymore. I traded Jimmy Grahaam for him. Trade not looking good now.

I think he'll be fine. These last two games were really unusual--a game with a 250-yard rusher who let the Cowboys take the air out of the ball, and a game where the Cowboys got completely throttled and threw for pathetic yardage until garbage time. These last two weeks were probably Austin's worst two games of the season.

alot weapons on dallas, id buy.. lastnight romo seemed hesitant to throw to wide outs dez/miles.. eagles D played very well lastnight. they ran the ball the week b4 253 yds. dallas has an explosive offense, and im an eagle fan. dez, austin and witten are a def buy..

Dallas resident and fan here.

I think he's a great buy low now because of the last two weeks.

Dallas has a pretty good schedule coming up. They also found a running game.

He does compete with Dez, Witten and now Laurant, so he's not getting 10 tgts/week.

However, 5-6 tgts with 80-100yds and a td makes him a nice low end WR1, high end WR2.

Did Miles Austin always line up in the slot or is this a change made due to Larent Robinson?? I thought Austin and Bryant were very under used sunday night. I don't know if it was play calling, coverage, bad reads, or not enough time to get down-field due to pressure. I noticed a lot of short patterns out of the slot for Austin though, which didn't make sense to me.

Huge Cowboys fan, I would sell him if I could get anything decent for him. He is not going to be a WR1 the rest of the year... and prob not even a low end WR2.

Being a Cowboys fan with a Raiders logo doesn't make you an expert, and I'm not claiming to be either, but saying he's probably not going to be a low-end WR2 is just silly. That said, IMO he puts up WR2 numbers from here on out and is erratic (as goes the Romo).

He badly needed RBs, but I think I need one of those emoticon thingies with the blinking eyes...

Having said that he will sit on my bench until or if he recovers.

You really need to brush up on your NFL knowledge if you think that is a Raiders logo. That is a Logo that I created for my fantasy football team. I can't remember seeing the Grim Reaper on a suddenly black raiders helmet. Miles Austin isn't producing and the only game that he did produce big was the game that Dez Bryant missed. Now he is getting less looks than Robinson, let alone Dez and Witten. Miles has game breaking ability, but he has had so many crucial drops over the last year and a half that I honestly think they are losing confidence in throwing him the ball.

Really? You think Miles suddenly stinks? I don't feel like going game by game since he burst out a couple seasons ago but he had to endure his QB going down last year and he ripped up that hammy towards the end of the San Fran game on a totally stupid play call that he should have never had to run. It looked bad that day and I'm not surprised that he is likely just toughing it out right now. Everyone is so reactive to what happens on a minute by minute basis. Miles is a buy low for sure. Dallas has an easy schedule coming up. What did Dez, Witten, and Romo do against Philly that was any better than Miles Austin and the Laurent Robinson play was a busted fluke play that should have never happened. Laurent Robinson? We really think Laurent Robinson is passing Miles Austin before our eyes? Should Austin put in an application at Whole Foods so he can start bagging groceries?Sorry Widddow but I have been mostly taking it in around here lately and this stuff just drives me nuts.Let's actually pull some of Austin's game logs because they are about as eye popping as you can ever find...10/250/2TD, 6/171/TD, 7/145/TD, 10/104/TD, 6/70/TD, 7/139/TD, 10 Touchdowns in 10 weeks in 2009, 46 receptions over the final 6 weeks of the season, In 2010 he racked up 20 catches the 1st 2 weeks and back to back 10 catch games so in essence he had 66 receptions over an 8 game span...has Laurent Robinson ever flashed that kind of talent? Pro Bowl 2009Pro Bowl 2010I would buy low on Miles Austin in dynasty for sure because whether he is a Cowboy or somewhere else he is bound to produce.

I think that you might be overreacting a bit?I never said that Miles suddenly stinks. I said that he has SERIOUSLY slumped for the last year and a half. Started out strong last year and then fell off hard. I chalked that up to Romo being out... but in my heart I knew that Miles simply wasn't doing what he did before. He was dropping balls like crazy. Anyways... week 1 this year Miles is a ghost until Dez gets hurt and they shadow him with Revis. Then, Miles does alright. Week 2, Dez is out Miles does great. Then... he gets hurt. 2 games back from his injury he is already dropping passes and not producing even close to a WR3. I didn't say that he sucks. I am saying that I think that the Coaches and possibly Romo seem to be losing confidence in him. I watch EVERY Cowboys game. I remember when Austin broke out... he used to work his butt off, was nearly impossible to tackle, would shake lose defenders, ran great routes... got wide open downfield, and was also great at snagging up those quick slants and picking up some SERIOUS YAC afterward. He doesn't seem to be doing ANY of that now, and he's dropping passes left and right. It all seemed to happen after he got that contract last year, and it wouldn't be the first time that a player began to slack off after they got the money they wanted. When you have guys like Witten (Romo's favorite target) saying things like "Dez Bryant has the best hands that I have ever seen)..... while Dez is also clearly above Miles on the pecking order if you happen to be watching the games in which they both play in since Miles came back. On top of that... you now see Robinson being more productive than Austin as well as being targeted much more often. It has nothing to do with reacting to harshly to what happens each week. I simply don't see Miles Austin being utilized as a major factor in any of the games where everyone was healthy and playing. This has been ongoing since last year. Like I said... I wrote it off last year due to a possible chemisty problem between Austin and Kitna... but his drops have continued this year and so has his absence on the field. This doesn't mean that Austin sucks and that he will never have any more big games. I am just stating the obvious that he simply isn't going to return to the beast status he was when he broke out. It's most likely a combination of Austin not wanting it as much, Dez being around, Witten taking so many targets... and the Cowboys offense in general not finding their grove. However... even when they are in the grove... such as against St. Louis... where they put up 34 pts... Miles Austin finished with 2 catches for 16 yards.I am huge Cowboys fan and I really like Austin. I hope that I'm wrong and I want him to blow up every week, of course. However, it's a bit unrealistic to think that he will. He certainly isn't a WR1 at this point. Are you telling me that you have him on your team, start him with confidence feeling like he is going to put up big numbers every week? That's a WR1 to me... and he certainly isn't one. Let's hope that he can pull himself back up and regain the status that he had a couple years ago... it doesn't seem likely.

Be careful what you ask for. I have been burned by Austin in years past. I would take Dez and his issues over Austin all day.

I think Austin is a great buy-low right now. I agree with the poster who commented that the last two games were quite unusual for the Cowboys. I think he will get on track sooner rather than later and have been targeting him in all leagues at this point.

You say this like the guy is a 10 year vet. He's currently in his 3rd season as a starter. Curious, which of these years did he burn you in?

2009: 81-1320-11

2010: 69-1041-7

I read it as he has been burnt certain weeks taking Austin out of his lineup. Austin has started 25 games in those two years. So that's plenty of opportunities to get burnt taking him out of your lineup.

My position going into the season was that his numbers would fall from last year due to Dez Bryant's increased role and that Austin would finish behind Bryant in fantasy points at the end of the season. I didn't think his numbers would drop too significantly, I was more predicting increased passing production from the team as a whole.

At this point I don't think the Cowboys know what kind of team they're trying to be. They tried to be a heavy pass team and they didn't do great in the beginning with a loss and a close win in OT. Then they had injuries to Romo, Bryant and Austin so they got a bit schitzo after that with a different player seeming to be the focus each week and Bryant pulling second half of game dissapearing acts.

It's a dangerous team to try and ride for any individual week success, although Romo as usual has been putting up decent fantasy stats. Speaking about Austin specifically, I think he's a good fantasy WR3 right now and nothing more. If you can trade for him and keep your risk low by not giving up too much I'd do it, but I wouldn't let anyone of quality go in a deal for him.
