Is Obomanu worth anything? (1 Viewer)

I figured with the injuries to Seattle's WRs, Obo would have an opportunity to put up some numbers, but he has been invisible in the preseason. Anyone know why? Hurt/garbage/both?

He's a slot WR at the moment, but unlike when the starters including Engram are all healthy he doesn't stand out as the primary target IMHO. I think he has some value this year because he's going to be on the field when Hasselbeck (who's good at spreading the ball around) returns to the lineup and because the starters are injured and because the running game remains questionable, but he has more value in dynasty leagues where you can wait for him to develop.

He's been outplayed by Courtney Taylor. He'll get some action as the #3 WR but that won't last. Once Branch returns, Taylor likely will move to that #3 spot.

Not much. Courtney Taylor/Engram should be playing the slot all year, with Taylor taking over when Engram is injured (ie, first weeks of season).

I heard where Holmgren said that the slot is where most of the balls will be thrown this year....does that make Taylor the guy to get?

News: The last thing Courtney Taylor needs is a reminder that he's young and inexperienced. The maturation of Taylor and his young teammates was kicked into warp drive earlier this week when coach Mike Holmgren announced that leading receiver Bobby Engram will be out up to eight weeks with a cracked right shoulder. That leaves Nate Burleson as the Seahawks' only healthy receiver with more than 12 career catches and who understands the offense. [/And if Taylor needed any more expectations placed on his 6-foot-1 frame, Holmgren specifically pointed to him as the guy the coaches would like to step forward in Engram's absence. u]

let me ask this...

is there a chance that branch could be moved into the slot receiver position once he returns? his size/speed seems perhaps better suited than taylor's for that role. wasn't that his role for NE, where he put up his best numbers?

This is a great topic because I've heard little about the Seattle WR's fiasco. I picked up Taylor recently and already had Obo on my dynasty team because I have room at the moment on my roster (doesn't say much for my WR's does it?). I'm just going to see how things develop over time and will most likely drop 1 at some point (or drop both).

The WR's are a mess. The only young guy that has stood out in pre-season is Jordan Kent. Upside is he is fast, good hands, and will fight for the ball. Downside...3 years football experiance.

Here are the numbers through 3 games. www.seahawks.com

Jordan Kent 9 115 12.8 23 2

Michael Bumpus 5 80 16.0 21 0

Jeb Putzier 5 54 10.8 15 1

John Carlson 5 48 9.6 13 0

Logan Payne 5 48 9.6 14 0

David Kirtman 4 29 7.3 10 0

Maurice Morris 4 24 6.0 13 0

Leonard Weaver 4 18 4.5 7 0

Nate Burleson 3 88 29.3 68 1

Owen Schmitt 3 50 16.7 23 0

Courtney Taylor 3 24 8.0 8 0

Joel Filani 3 17 5.7 10 1

Bobby Engram 2 29 14.5 18 0

Will Heller 2 20 10.0 10 0

Justin Forsett 2 15 7.5 8 0

Trent Shelton 2 12 6.0 7 1

Julius Jones 2 12 6.0 9 0

Bryan Gilmore 1 12 12.0 12 0

Ben Obomanu 1 5 5.0 5 0

I won't speak for the other games, but a lot of Kent's numbers vs. San Diego came against 2nd and 3rd stringers and he didn't seem to be on the field much/at all while the 1st string was playing.

FWIW, I dropped Darrell Jackson and picked up Courtney Taylor. Both are fill in players until the starters get healthy or return from suspension, but I think Seattle has an easier opening schedule, should I need to reach for a WR3

i thought i too read that courtney taylor's spot is where a lot of the balls will be thrown. which is why i took him. also remember that even if his stats from last game are not gaudy, taylor is credited with springing burleson for that long TD with a big block.

taylor is only getting the starting nod because of injuries to Branch and Engram. Once Branch returns he is expected to slide back down the depth chart. Once Engram returns he could be back to #4. I do think he is auditioning for a starting role next season, so he has value in dynasty formats.
