Is Oz worth watching? (1 Viewer)

Didn't see Oz when it first came out in 1997. What does the FFA say? Does the show still hold up from its heyday?

It can feel like a prison soap opera at times but it was one of HBO's first original programs so I'm not as critical.   Lots of great characters.  It's no Wire or Breaking Bad but I enjoyed it.

Pretty good but in the same vein as Sons of Anarchy.  If you are cool with suspending a lot of your critical thinking to allow for entertaining and awesome plotlines, it's worth it.  It's not deep, in spite of how it comes off.

Loved it.  Like an earlier poster said, it is much more a soap opera than an arc based tv show but it is uncompromising in every aspect.  Even almost 20 years later much of what they did on that show would still raise an eye brow.

Give the first season a shot.

You'll also see a lot of young actors before they "made it".  Solid ensemble cast.
It was cool to see the warden in Fargo Season 2.

I have been thinking about going back and watching it - really enjoyed it the first time around.  Don't know how well it will hold up.

I'm going to go against the tide and say no.  There is a terrific arc between the regular dude and JK Simmons (and trying to figure out how Adabisi kept that little hat on his head), but other than that your time is better served elsewhere.

There are plenty of shows I'd recommend you watch ahead of this.

I will echo others and say it was miles ahead of its time, and certainly paved the way for the big stuff HBO did down the line (Sopranos, The Wire, etc).
