Is Ray Rice hurt? (1 Viewer)

Ravens say Ray Rice only has knee contusion

Coach John Harbaugh referred to Ray Rice's knee injury as a "significant" contusion.

It's believed Rice avoided a sprain, as an MRI confirmed no damage to any of his knee ligaments. The Ravens square off with the run-tough Steelers in Week 4, however, which isn't going to be a good situation for a running back playing at less than 100 percent. The good news is Rice, at most, would miss no more than one game and ideally be at full speed for Week 5 against Denver.

(FWIW)

I don't know precisely what comprises his "knee contusion", but if it = a bone bruise, that can last a long time. Let's hope not.

I have Jahvid Best and Ray Rice, and if their injuries are as minor as has been reported, I think I've been extremely lucky. As an owner of both however, I think I would rather take the week 4 loss than to see them play at less than 100%. The risk of further injuring themselves seems greater.

Good news for all Rice owners. He may be able to play this week and worse case is he misses a single week.

per Dan Kolko, Ravens beat writer:

Ray Rice has a "significant contusion" on his knee, per Harbaugh. Hasn't been ruled out for Sunday vs Steelers.
English please...is this the same as a torn ACL??
It's a bruise
So it's looking positive...
What has to be the worry moving forward though is how much of a factor will Willis McGahee be? I could definitely see a little more workload being moved towards willis from here out.

Given the injury, I can't see the Ravens playing Rice this week against the Steelers. Give the ball to McGahee to see what he can do against the awesome (to date) Steelers D.

Unless the injury lingers, I do not see Willis assuming much more of a workload. I expect the same as usual: McGahee gets some GL/short-yardage work with Rice being the man between the 20's.

Good week to miss too.

Report says "significant contusion", which does not have to include a bone bruise. Contusions are vascular and muscular.

From http://firstaid.webmd.com/tc/bruises-and-b...topic-overview:

Bruises develop when small blood vessels under the skin tear or rupture, most often from a bump or fall. Blood leaks into tissues under the skin and causes the black-and-blue color. As bruises (contusions) heal, usually within 2 to 4 weeks, they often turn colors, including purplish black, reddish blue, or yellowish green. Sometimes the area of the bruise spreads down the body in the direction of gravity. A bruise on a leg usually will take longer to heal than a bruise on the face or arms.

Bone bruises can be bad. They take forever to heal and the only thing you can do is rest it.
I believe this is what the Mets' Carlos Beltran had.
Yep. I had Carlos Beltran in my dynasty baseball league so I was reading up on bone bruises for a while. I hope Rice doesn't have it like Beltran did.
beltran is also a decade older with a history of taking a long time to heal.plus ray rice is tougher than beltran.

Not doubting any of those things at all. I don't know what Rice's healing history is to be honest, but I have no doubt he's tougher than Beltran (who is a wuss bag) :goodposting: Just stating bone bruises linger and while Rice is certainly tougher than Beltran, he's playing a far more violent sport and getting hit at his knees quite frequently I would imagine.

I love all these elaborate medical posts. LOL. No offense at all.

Bottom line is if he goes out and warms up and can run...he is playing whether his knee is black, purple, yellow. Does not matter. This is football.

(KFFL) If Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (knee) cannot play during Week 4 due to a bruised knee, RB Willis McGahee would get the starting nod against the Pittsburgh Steelers, reports The Associated Press. FB Le'Ron McClain will also likely see more carries, and the team could look to involve RB Jalen Parmele into action, too.
Is McGahee worth a start against Pittsburgh's defense? I would have started Rice no doubt if he was healthy, but am not sure about McGahee...

Lost in all this discussion is the fact that Rice is a huge bust this year. For me, it's almost better if he misses time. Then I won't feel pressure to start him and take hi 6.7 points every week.

I have learned all to often the obvious will bite you in the ### in FF.

Perfect example is Peyton Hillis gashing the Ravens vaunted defense. Granted Cleveland does have a very strong OL in the run blocking department, but did anyone really see that kind of game out of Hillis against the Ravens?

All it takes is one missed tackle and one great pancake block and a RB can go off to the races for 75 plus yards and make your day in FF.

Tim Hightower anyone?

PLay the guys who will get a lot of touches....usually your better off playing that aspect than trying to pour over matchups.

Trust me I am a fantasy Dr.

LOL.

I don't call guys busts after 3 games unless their name is Shonn Greene.Other than that it is too early to label busts.

Oh great. I thought he just stopped running the ball...had no idea he got hurt. That would put a nice "screw you" on my day of fantasy football.
From Twitter...QUOTE @RavensInsider: ray rice suffered sprained knee during ravens win; nothing ligament wise or cartilage damage for rice per harbaughIf this report is to be believed the injury may not be that serious. On the other hand any knee injury isn't good.
Cooll that Harbaugh has an MRI machine and results available so quickly.
IPhone has an MRI app.

From his Twitter feed:

Knee feeling a lot better I was so happy when I found out it was just a bruise no worries I will be back asap

Looks like it's not a major bruise and I would guess he's playing this Sunday.

Citing a source close to the running back, the Baltimore Sun reports that Ray Rice "should be good" for this week's game against the Steelers. The source indicated that Rice's injury is "not that bad" and he's "walking around like his regular self." Added the source, "He definitely could play this week ' depending on how he feels and how the doctor and coaches feel." Barring a late-week setback, Rice should be safe to pencil into starting lineups for a tough matchup at Pittsburgh.Source: Baltimore Sun

I wish they'd give him this week off. He won't do anything against the Steelers anyway and a week off to recharge would be a good thing.

I wouldn't start anyone against the Steelers right now. They are flying to the ball.

They are 2-1 facing there 3-0 division rival. Im sure the Ravens would like to win and Rice in the backfield gives them the best chance, no matter how the Pitt D is playing.

But does he still start against Pit.I really want him to take a week off, reinjury fears
How do you re-injure a bruise?
First of all, bruise is too general a term, we dont know if its the muscle or the bone he bruised, either way you can re-injure them or worse. As for the how, anyway you get a bruise is how you re-injure it -_-

Bust? In my league he has done:1. 12.52. 18.93. 16.6Isnt PPR neat?

Similar here...plus Charles on a bye.Ive been scrambling for a back and had penciled in Tolbert and Brandon Jackson as my starters. But I don't like a gimpy Rice all that much against Pitt.

:goodposting: If Rice is cleared by the medical staff then he will play. This is a huge game for both teams. Rice isn't going to sit on the sidelines if he can play.

Imagine how much easier it would be to gameplan for the Ravens without Rice in the backfield? He will play unless he can't walk Sunday.

saw this on twitter:

RB Ray Rice (knee) is not expected to practice on Wednesday, according to Coach John Harbaugh.

from RavensInsider:

John Harbaugh on Ray Rice: 'I don't think he'll practice today. We'll just have to see how it goes. I'm not trying to avoid the question.'

Any chance they start McGahee and keep Rice available if McGahee isn't successful? I don't think either one looks like a good play this week unless Rice is inactive.

News Articles > Ravens | Ray Rice injury update Published Fri Oct 1 2:45:51 a.m. ET 2010

(KFFL) Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (knee) said he feels great and he is sure he will be ready to play during Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, reports Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun. He doesn't expect to wear any protective gear on his knee because that would limit him. Rice said Sunday will be the ultimate test on whether he's ready to play, and noted the decision will be up to the coaching staff.
