Is Ray Rice starting week one ? (1 Viewer)

Assuming you haven't drafted yet, you don't want official news. Once it's out officially, it will get that much harder to get Rice at a fair price. You have to read the tea leaves. There's been enough suggestion that McGahee will miss at least game 1. He's reportedly been running in a pool as recent as a week or so ago. That doesn't sound like a guy ready to play in week 1. In all honesty, I haven't read the McGahee/Rice threads in great detail, but there are plenty to review to get the latest.

I think you have to take a leap of faith here, and decide if you think Rice will be worth where you can get him based on the inconclusive evidence. If you wait until there's an official release, it's too late to get a bargain.

It is unlikely that Ravens running back Willis McGahee will play in Week 1 due to his knee injury, and he is still walking with a limp, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View: McGahee had arthroscopic knee surgery early in camp, and has been missing in action ever since. Yet another reminder that handcuffing Ray Rice to McGahee is important in fantasy drafts.

Only thing I found on the web about him

I cant find any local sources that back that report up. But if he wasnt even running last week, how would he be ready in 8 days to play a prominent role in an NFL game?

:goodposting: Week 1 = Rice, can't see them rushing Willis back considering where he is at right now.

where/when is that from?

If Rice starts vs Cincy who do you start him over? Most people should have a 1-2 punch at rb better than that no?
Over Thomas Jones, for example. With a lousy second RB I bought a few 'lottery ticket' types. Rice, Perry, and Ricky Williams. If we hear that McGahee is out I plan to go with Rice. Otherwise, I dont know what to do. Not to bore you with my roster, but this is an example of the type of team that Rice could impact.

Don't overlook those of us who play a flex. Sure, 1 and 2 rb's are likely covered, but how many in a 12 team league actually have 3 viable starters to kick off the season. I haven't made up my mind yet, but he is in consideration for me as the flex. Like the matchup to run against.

I could actually see McGahee missing up to 3 games...pure speculation.

Rice is a solid play in just about any league if starting.

Against Bungals I would start any RB that plays.

I even already chose over Riki as a flex! Easy choice to me. Chose him over Stewart too aniother league. Another easy choice because of match ups. Now Stewart Rice could be a tuff choice down road. Nice choice to have for a RB-3 FLEX. But of coarse I planed it that way when I drafted.

I would not be counting on McGahee anytime soon. As far as I know he isn;t even jogging yet. Let alone running! I am beginning to think there is more going on with his knee then the Organazaion wants us to know. At least keeping quiet about it is better then misleading us MR DUNGY :blackdot:

I will have some lineman sneak some crutches and a knee brace into his locker to give them something to report.

"Rice is a solid play in just about any league if starting. "

i dunno, bengals or not, the team itself may wind up with the worse offense in the league.

also i dont know how much faith i would have in an offense with a rookie qb and rb both starting in week 1

he may develop into a good option at some point, but declaring him a "solid play" is really going out on a limb

I heard a Ravens beat guy on NFL Sirius Radio yesterday (obviously no link) say Flacco and Rice were starting week one. The feel was Boller could be out for most of the season and Troy Smith is in bad shape. The quote was he lost around 13 pounds when he got sick. The Ravens also have concerns on the OL with injuries.

Ravens O vs. Bengals D should be a battle of ineptitude for the ages.

Here is the thread I was looking for. I dont have any doubt that Ray Rice will start week 1, but what I want to know is will Willis play?

Happily starting Rice week 1 over Perry, Stewart, CJ3 & Fred. Also happily starting the Bengals D :goodposting:

I don't know that I could ever happily start the Bengals D.

it sounds like he may be, i think he will become the number 1 guy later in the year anyways..he has good value from rounds 10-16, imo

See the week 1 defense sleeper topic for my reply to that. I also said I'm happily starting Rice against that sieve, but there is tons of potential for t/o's & a low score.

Just read this on the Ravens website, thought I would share:"The Ravens have 2 players on Injured Reserve: TEs Quinn Sypniewski (knee) and Scott Kuhn (knee). Tackles Adam Terry (ankle) and Jared Gaither (ankle) are likely to miss the next week of practice. DT Haloti Ngata (knee) and S Ed Reed are currently limited, as are TE Daniel Wilcox (foot) and WR Demetrius Williams (ankle). After Tuesday's morning practice, head coach John Harbaugh told the media that CB Samari Rolle would not suit up vs. New England as he will need a few days to practice after rejoining the team on Monday. Harbaugh also revealed that RB Willis McGahee needs to rest a sore knee and will not play in the game either."

Ravens signed RB Marcus Mason to their practice squad.

Mason led the NFL in preseason rushing. He has a shot to join the active roster early if Willis McGahee's recovery from knee surgery continues slowly
