Is Richardson the best RB prospect since ADP ? (1 Viewer)

ADP > Richardson > McFadden >>>>> Everyone else, including Ingram, who was only on par with Moreno.
I rank McFadden and Chris Johnson ahead of Richardson coming out of college. The main issue with Richardson is that he doesn't have elite speed. For that reason, he's not the best prospect since ADP. Also anyone who says he's a better prospect than ADP or even close to him is absolutely crazy. ADP was a better NFL prospect coming out of high school than Richardson will be at any point in his entire life. Look at what ADP did in his first 8 games as a rookie and ask yourself if Richardson will even come remotely close to those numbers. There is simply no way. And pretty much everyone knew ADP was going to reach that level in the pros. That's not the case for Richardson. I like the comparisons to Frank Gore and Marion Barber for Richardson. Michael Turner and Mendenhall are other fair comparisons, although he seems to have a better all around skill set. That said, I see some Cedric Benson with him too.

You liked CJ that much coming out of college?

Yes. Like Al Davis, I put a premium on speed. It doesn't always work out (see Felix Jones, CJ Spiller, etc) but I would rather have a reliable home run hitter than a reliable plodder.

Jonathan Stewart is the prospect coming out of college that I'd compare him to. I was high on McFadden as well and took him over Stewart and Mendenhall, but Stewart has some injury issues that concerned me. I think I would have taken Richardson over McFadden though since I think he's the complete package (except extreme speed) and a safer pick (assuming he doesn't go into RBBC like Stewart).

Richardson is not a 'reliable plodder'.

You must be a big fan of Ricardo Lockett then...

I thought he was better than Ingram while they were together at Alabama. Top end speed (40-yard dash) is overrated. His explosiveness (vertical and broad jump) and 10 and 20 yard split times will be most important.

Sorry I didn't mean to imply that Richardson is a slow, mediocre back. He's just not a breakaway threat like ADP, McFadden or CJ. Plodder is more of a negative description. Perhaps power back is a better way to frame it. Only a rare few have both elite speed and elite power like ADP. Trent does have great vision and is a great inside runner. He would be the perfect fit for the Jets or Steelers and looks like he could be much better pro RB than Greene or Mendenhall.

Nice, this thread is back on track.

Richardson is a better prospect than All Day when he came out.

There, I said it.

Lol, its comedy that Richardson is getting knocked for not having elite speed. It's only useful when your O-line can block a lick. And the Raiders have always had above average run blocking, and so did the Titans before this season. I mean look at what two plodders have done behind the same line, Bush and Lendale White.

Have you guys even looked at video? I've never seen a power back stop on a dime and shake a defender out of their shoes like Richardson.

Greene and Mendenhall? Wow, that's selling him way short.

Richardson will run anywhere from a 4.44 to a 4.48 forty. He is plenty fast.
Plenty of guys run those times in the forty, but don't show it on the field. And plenty run horrible times but have outstanding game speed. His forty speed doesn't matter to me, just as A.J. Green's forty didn't either. Green lacks elite speed, but doesn't get knocked?

This is what makes Richardson unique among bigger backs. Not many backs his size can make this move.

I don't see it and I'm a big fan of Richardson. Peterson made everything look effortless and could run inside and outside with ease. As great as Richardson is he can't pop it outside like Peterson could with his speed.

When I watch film on Richardson, he does seem a bit slow by NFL standards. He'll probably get caught from behind a lot.

Richardson's strength in the passing game more than offsets that imho.

The same way Ray Rice and Maurice Jones-Drew gets caught? How bad are those guys playing without elite speed?

MJD is actually pretty fast. He made the CA state final in the 100m in high school, which is not an easy feat.

But yea...Ray Rice is not very fast. Even when he was at Rutgers you would see him get caught from behind, yet he's probably the best back in FF right now. I definitely think Richardson is cut from the same cloth, but Trent is more athletic and stronger.

There are a lot of ways to skin a cat (or a linebacker). Not every RB needs Chris Johnson's speed. The two best guys in FF right now aren't burners (LeSean McCoy and Ray Rice). If you can catch the ball well and make people miss with agility and power, you don't need 4.3 speed.
