Is Shockey flying under the radar? (1 Viewer)

not much attention has been paid to Shockey so far. i don't know ... i think in the right environment (and mindset), he can a big contributor. Granted, he is on a new team, but everyone knows how much Brees likes his TE.

The biggest argument against him (this year) is that he's going to have fight for catches against the likes of Colston and Bush. But i think he'll make his presence known (hopefully not with his big mouth) and he's going to get more of the passes that would go to Bush. Bush isn't the most durable back and i think the Saints are going to get away from shouldering the offense on him. Last year thye had no choice when Duece went down.

I think in this potent offense, Shockey could get 8TDs. At the very least, he's got to be better than the 5 TDs projected. He's currently ranked 8th, which i think is low. what say you?

Thanks JT,

Let's analyze this for a second. Let's go over the things we know.

When Shockey was a rookie he racked up 74 receptions for 894 yards and was named to the Pro Bowl...how many TE do that their 1st year out of the box as a complete rookie in the NFL? I'm thinking not very often.

In New York he had a few seasons where he totaled 600-650 yds, he hit 890 again in 2005, the guy has produced at a high level his whole career no matter what you think of him personally.

Now he goes to a loaded NO team on offense...he has an upgrade at QB from Eli to Drew Brees IMO, he also will have an upgrade at WR1 with Colston who occupies defenses, and he has a better threat coming out of the backfield with Bush, who is going to cover Shockey? ANd remember what Brees did with Gates? I think a TE of the caliber of Jeremy Shockey will se a ton of targets from Brees. I see some of Bush's targets going into pass plays for Shockey.

I think Shockey has the talent that if he is in the right offense, I see no reason he cannot make a run at 75/850/6+ TD in this offense. I feel strongly that Shockey will be a top5 TE this season, and those that are getting him 3-5 rounds after guys like Witten, Gonzo, and Gates will be very happy this year.

And think about this, he has never ever finished worse than #11 for the season and that happened twice when he only played in 9 games his 2nd season, and of course last year too. The other 4 years, Shockey finished 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th...wake up folks, this is your meal ticket at TE this year.

There's plenty of hype around him locally.

I think the reason you're not hearing much nationally is because he's been held out of practice for couple weeks. First preseason game he plays, I have a feeling he'll start jumping up a lot of people's draft boards.

"Under the Radar"? If anything I think the opposite's true since he went to NO. The hype machine's been in full force, and given that I can get Owen Daniels 2-3 Rounds Later I'd as soon it stayed that way.
