Is STUDman Bailey the 2015 Breakout Player? (1 Viewer)

I've begun my search for the next "breakout" star for this coming season and when I stumbled on Bailey, I paused...

Still young, and production to date has been mediocre at best.

Really good college prospect, I remember clearly... great hands, decent speed and knows how to run a route.

Size clearly an issue, though more than one WR has proved size can be overcome, in a huge way.

Is Nick Foles going to push this cat to fantasy relevancy in PPR leagues? Poor kid has been playing with question marks at QB since nearly his time out of college. A great o-line, a very capable QB, a run game... Maybe this is the perfect storm for a breakout year on a guy that can be had super cheap.

Had some nice games in the 2nd half of last season, and a lot of stinkers... But Im more convinced this is down to atrocious QBing

Thoughts?

I thought I wrote something about him recently, but anyways, there is about a four game stretch last year (he was suspended for the first month which set him back badly in 2014, his soph season, took the better part of another month or more to earn his way back into the good graces of Fisher and the coaching staff), which is admittedly a paltry basis for a meaningful proration, where he "would" have something like 60-70 receptions and well over 1,000 yard, though he only had 1 TD (so X 4 in 16 games). Worth noting Quick was injured during this breakout, or it likely wouldn't have happened.

At least two caveats, though.

Quick broke out last year and they re-signed Britt. They also have Cook, who led the team in receiving yards in '13, and re-signed Kendricks (believe it or not, his 5 receiving TDs may have led the team in '14, without looking it up), and play a lot of two and even three TE sets at times. Quick is still rehabbing a bad shoulder injury, but if he returns to form, and the new OC also stated specifically he wanted to get Austin more involved, hard to see how Bailey will be able to break out. Unless there are injuries, or Quick can't return for health reasons, he is in a contract year so maybe if he doesn't re-sign in 2016, it looks like it will tough for him to get the opportunities and targets with which he might have a shot at more substantive production in the near future.

When you say great OL, Robinson and Saffold are the only definite starters. I think Robinson will be very good to great someday, but he isn't there yet. Saffold seems to be hurt a lot, they cut Long and Wells. So either they need to scramble for free agents (the OT/guard from ATL and DET and re-signing of Tim Barnes could be more depth-type moves), or draft a few this year. But continuity is important for OLs, and they are in the midst of a lot of turnover and an expected youth movement, so I'm sort of expecting some growing pains. Also, they may run a lot until they feel more confident about the pass pro situation?

I've kept my eye on him and do think there is third-year breakout potential with him. last year he had a four game stretch where he went 25/310/1, that gives me a lot of hope

I look at the entire picture and although a Jeff Fisher offense is not notorious for huge wide-receivers numbers but he has had a couple of guys who have been very good statistically like Derrick Mason who has a similar size 5"10 196.

So what I see is that he was ridiculously productive in college, his final year he had 1600 yards and 25TD's although he seemed to have been overshadowed in the draft by Austin.. he's had a nice run last year with a few games which, statistically, made you think that there is more to be had out there and he did that with a cast of QBs who should have been sitting on their couch. Now add in Nick Foles, another year in the league, playing an entire season (hopefully) and I'll go out on a limb and call for 65/915/4

I've always thought he was the 'best' of the St. Louis WRs. I know that's not saying much, but I can certainly see him stepping out from that crowd to be the #1 option.

My thoughts are that Foles is a definite upgrade over what they've had in the past. I know Fisher isn't exactly a WR feeder but due to the lack of competition I am optimistically calling for 60/800/5.

I think he has a better chance of leading the Rams in receptions this year than any other single player. And if you're in a very deep PPR league, he's woefully undervalued at the WR70-75 range where he's been going ever since springtime (which is why I've got him on all my survivor league rosters).

Having said that, in regular league formats with waiver wires I'd rather spend my WR6 and WR7 slots on big, athletic outside guys who have a small chance of blowing up than on diminutive slot guys whose practical upside is maybe 70% of a Jarvis Landry. So as "breakout" candidates go, I'd put my chips on Brian Quick well before Bailey.

I wish this thread hadn't been started because I love this guy. From day one, he's always put me in the mind of Reggie Wayne. With that being said, I just do NOT trust the Rams to be able to use him to HIS potential. And with Quick back, I don't know if the opportunity is there.

Would it surprise me? Nope. I'd take him late and swing for a fence without much thought but it also wouldn't be a surprise if I cut him 6 weeks into the season.

I've liked his potential for awhile. Sort of forgot about him recently.

Actually had to check, but I still have him in my main dynasty league, 16 teams. As my 7th WR.

While I'm hopeful, I wouldn't expect much.

Get em now before it's too late. If he's on waivers obviously. Or his owner doesn't own a computer or tv. Rams #1 WR

ETA- Certainly helps that Sherman is not covering him. But still more talented than any other wr on the team.

Been holding him for three seasons...Why can't Fisher see that he is clearly the best WR. on the team...I don't care about his measurable or lack thereof, some players just get it. His latest basket catch (against the vaunted Richard Sherman) is an example of a player who understands the game knows how to get open and is capable of making plays. The media should be asking Fisher why he only had him in on 18 plays. WAKE UP FISHER!

So frustrating. Obviously Fisher only cares that they are winning games and not about my fantasy team, but it seems pretty evident that the guy is a playmaker. Had such great production at WVU and it wasn't because Geno was such an amazing QB. I think we just have to keep holding and hope he lands elsewhere in free agency after his contract is up.

The outside hope is that Foles starts gaining more trust in him like he did on that throw with Sherman draped on him and Thomas coming over. Could slowly see an increase in targets over the year. Like I said above, now may be the last chance to get him cheap.

That was a great play and catch. Hopefully it is the springboard for bigger and better things. Maybe starting this week!?

Have always loved him as a player. The situation for FF... not so much. I think that the Rams are definitely moving in the right direction, but unfortunately for Stedman, that direction for Fisher is going to be running as much as possible and letting that nasty defense win games. I'm continuing to hold, but really doubt he has major FF relevance until / unless he leaves STL or things change in a major way there.

I'm a big fan of his game as well. Dude has some amazing hands. I was watching him during a workout where he was catching balls effortlessly one-handed, and not "cradle-catching" but grabbing it out of the air with fingertips and hand. I would love to see him get more opportunity to shine, and would think he will force the issue a bit as the season progresses, assuming he continues to make the most out of the opportunities that he gets.

The one thing I keep telling myself is that Foles is the best QB that the Rams have taking snaps since Stedman's been there.... What I can't figure out is if I believe Foles is really all that good. I think if Foles can prove he's a real QB outside of Chip's offense, then I think Sted has the chance to emerge as the #1/go-to guy. I wouldn't recommend dropping a proven guy to pick him up by any means, but if you've got roster space he's the type of guy you stash at the bottom and you never know from there.
