sign a guy who any team can have in the open market in the spring, make him change positions over the summer, and flip him at the end of the summer for a 3rd rounder? Why not ask for 3 1sts and a player to be named later?I say they train him and play him as a TE during the preseason, and then trade him to some unsuspecting team for a 3rd round pick.
Pats fans crack me up.Well, I highly doubt he'll make the 53 man roster, and if he does, it wont be as a QB.
I say they train him and play him as a TE during the preseason, and then trade him to some unsuspecting team for a 3rd round pick.
Somehow I'm guessing they're not taking Tom Brady off the field near the goal-line.I will say that if anyone is hit negatively by this, it will be Gronk. He's most likely to lose short TDs if they actually bring in The Tebow near the goaline.
Well, I wasn't being completely serious, but if he can play antother possition like TE well enough, it wouldn't be a surprise to flip him for something.sign a guy who any team can have in the open market in the spring, make him change positions over the summer, and flip him at the end of the summer for a 3rd rounder? Tim Tebow's long, lonely walk through free agency had to end this way. The New England Patriots and Tim Tebow belong together in some indescribable, inarguable way. It all feels preordained.
So why will Patriots coach Bill Belichick sign Tebow? Let's count the reasons.
1. There will be no circusPerhaps Tebow's biggest flaw, aside from that pesky accuracy issue, is the attention that he brings. NFL teams don't want to deal with so much attention for a backup quarterback. The Patriots know how to squash media attention like no other NFL team.
It's safe to say the Patriots won't hold a massive press conference on their indoor practice field in order to handle all the media requests for Tebow.
"He's never going to be at the podium," former New England Patriot and current NFL Network analyst Heath Evans told Around The League. "He's going to be treated like he's nothing special. That's just the way they work."
Evans believes Tebow will turn into a "non-story." The Patriots have done it plenty of times before.
"He's just going to be expected to go with the normal Patriots PR quotes: talk about yourself, don't talk about the past, don't talk about the future, talk about right here and right now," Evans said. "Manage expectations."
2. Belichick did Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer a solidThere was a consistent buzz before the 2010 NFL Draft that the Patriots were interested in drafting Tebow. Belichick has talked up Tebow publicly many times and is close friends with then-Florida coach Urban Meyer. The NFL often is about relationships, and that helped pave the way for a deal here. The Tebow-Patriots union created a lot of strange one-word reactions Monday, but it actually made sense in a historical context.
We heard before the '10 draft that Tebow's camp was spreading the word that Tebow received a guarantee from the Patriots that the team would draft him in the second round if he was available. Tebow didn't last that long because Josh McDaniels and the Denver Broncos took him in the first round. Which reminds us ...
3. Josh McDanielsIf McDaniels could convince Bill Belichick to sign Michael Hoomanawanui and Greg Salas, the Patriots offensive coordinator should have enough sway to push for a Tebow signing.
4. To stick it to Michael SilverI'm half kidding. But only half. Silver, who is a friend and a fantastic writer, last month had a source who claimed there was "no chance" the Patriots would sign Tebow. The source said Bill Belichick "hated" Tebow as a player.
So what did Belichick do? He released a strongly worded statement and is about to sign Tebow.
Belichick wouldn't solely sign a player to get back at a reporter. But we've heard more than enough behind-the-scenes stories to know that Belichick enjoys sticking it to the media from time to time. Consider this reason a nice bonus.
5. To see if Tebow sticksWe've already overanalyzed this move. We don't know Tebow's role with the Patriots because the Patriots don't know his role yet, either. Belichick loves to sign veteran players, throw them against the training-camp wall and see who sticks. In that sense, Tebow is no different than Tommy Kelly, Donald Jones, Jake Ballard and Leon Washington. Tebow is not so different from guys like Anthony Gonzalez who got a test drive in New England.
6. Because it's the perfect fitBelichick focuses on what players can do, rather than worry about their limitations. He prizes versatility. If ever there's a perfect fit for Tebow in the NFL, it's New England. This is Tebow's chance to be a useful role player like hundreds of other guys in the NFL who don't create headlines. This is his NFL destiny.

Quarterback gurus are lining up to take credit for "fixing" Tim Tebow's elongated delivery now that he's set to sign with the New England Patriots.
After spending three days with the former New York Jet in early February, independent quarterbacks coach Steve Carlson claimed in April that he had fixed Tebow's accuracy issues by correcting a footwork problem that led to his looping throwing motion.
ESPN's Trent Dilfer tweeted Monday night that Dennis Gile of The [Q] Quarterback Academy, "one of the true ROCK STARS" in quarterback development, had made "real changes" to Tebow's delivery after working out for three and a half months.
Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Chris Weinke, who worked with Tebow at IMG Academy in Florida, said Monday that Tebow now is throwing with "great accuracy, great velocity" after fixing a major foot alignment flaw.
"Do I think he can play the quarterback position in the NFL? Yeah, no question," Weinke told USA Today. "Like I told Tim when I found out that he signed, 'You're locked and loaded, ready to go.'"
The common sentiment from all of Tebow's tutors is that the Patriots will be pleasantly surprised at the new and improved Tebow. It's one thing for Tebow to show the streamlined throwing motion in passing drills. It's quite another to resist sliding into old habits once the bullets start flying in the pocket. This is not the first time coaches have attempted to fix Tebow's delivery or crowed about his new, compact throwing motion.
As Cam Newton and Jake Locker can attest, maintaining proper footwork in the face of defensive pressure is an ongoing battle. Forgive our skepticism that the latest fix will be more than temporary for the owner of the lowest completion percentage among active quarterbacks.

I might be able to buy that they are trading Mallet to some unsuspecting team rumor. This absolutely will not happen. Guarenteed.Tebow is probably not going to play this year. He is a project. But when he does, he will eventually play quarterback. And he will play in NE.
He willl play exactly what and where Bill tells him to, or he won't make the roster. This absolutely will not happen. Guarenteed.Tebow is probably not going to play this year. He is a project. But when he does, he will eventually play quarterback. And he will play in NE.

I struggle to understand why he's a "perfect fit". Brady figures to play for several years yet, and Tebow is a completely different kind of QB. Will the Pats roster 3 QBs? Some say he'll be a TE, but the Pats already have the bests TEs in the league, and there's a learning curve there. Fullback is a position that is being phased out of the game. The Pats supposedly runs a complex offense, and Tebow is said to not possess a very high football IQ. Tebow is a saint, Belichick is the devil.Six reasons why Bill Belichick will sign Tim Tebow

Belichick didn't go "out of his way" to contradict any report, and please show me where the coach indicated he would make the team?PatsFan - I am so glad you are making that bold prediction.
I will make a bold prediction too. Tebow will start at QB for the Patriots at least once. PatsFan - For a guy who so sure of what is what, why is your offensive coordinator directly contradicting what you have to say on the NFL channel. According to him, there are very skilled people at each position that have trained their entire life to play those positions. That Tebow is not going to play any of those positions. That Tebow is a quarterback and will train as a quarterback. http://lindyssports.com/nfl/article/headline/nfl-roundup-patriots-reportedly-will-sign-tebow/105874Bellichek went out of his way 4 days ago to contradict a report from Jay Silver that he ever said that he "hated" Tebow or thought that Tebow "did not have the ability to play QB".
So what do you say to that? Guess he will have to just listen to the coach, huh?
Yes. Tebow is exactly the same as a rookie. A rookie with a winning record in the NFL. How the hell can you be taken seriously. I get it, you don't like this move. Yes. Absolutely. Good point.Regardless, can't we now say that Tebow is indeed being given a fair shot?
Does Tebow have a better chance to make the 53 man roster than the rookies? I don't know, but they have more info on his ability at the NFL level than a rookie. Do you think he's worth a look? If I were a fan of NE, I would be happy that they brought him in to take a look. I think it's a positive that NE is so strong as an organization to not be scared off by the circus. Ok, I can agree with the bolded. I just don't think he'll make the 53. If he plays well in the preseason, then another team might pick him up and as SaintsInDome2006 pointed out, it should end the whole "Fair shot" debate.Does Tebow have a better chance to make the 53 man roster than the rookies? I don't know, but they have more info on his ability at the NFL level than a rookie. Do you think he's worth a look? If I were a fan of NE, I would be happy that they brought him in to take a look. I think it's a positive that NE is so strong as an organization to not be scared off by the circus. Not many teams would be willing to bring that close to home to give Tim a shot.My point was that there are 27 other new guys that aren't all going to be on the 53 man roster. They signed Tebow the same way they signed them. OK. I get that your opinion is Tebow will not make the team. And Tebow is alot of things, but he is not a rookie. He was put in glaring media scrutiny and managed a playoff run out of a team that we were talking about winning the Andrew Luck sweepstakes before he started. I am sure Elway will never forgive Tebow for that. And Tebow WAS able to win a playoff game. Against a savvy veteran Super Bowl winning QB. Not many people can do that in their first dozen NFL games. I would say yes. I believe that the Patriots will give him a fair shot.Regardless, can't we now say that Tebow is indeed being given a fair shot?

You aren't being rational PatsFan. Just calm down. Just realize that if he makes the team, he will probably help them win. As much as it will bother you.
Can I ask what do you mean by saying they'll give him a fair shot? He wants to be a QB and has already stated he won't play FB, TE, etc. Brady is the entrenched starter. If anything he's being brought in to compete to be a backup QB.I would say yes. I believe that the Patriots will give him a fair shot.Regardless, can't we now say that Tebow is indeed being given a fair shot?
No. This is the situation he should have been drafted into IMO. He needs a few years of development. But he was put in as the starter before he had developed and now we all have his 45% comp rate in our minds as his ceiling. Can I ask what do you mean by saying they'll give him a fair shot? Tebow wouldn't even be in the NFL anymore if he weren't Tim Tebow.
I wouldn't be writing this post if I wasn't me.and Jason Collins is still unsigned...I'm shocked a team signed a Christian before a gay.Regardless, can't we now say that Tebow is indeed being given a fair shot?
Ha, I think Belichik probably figured this was where his press conference was headed today....and Jason Collins is still unsigned...I'm shocked a team signed a Christian before a gay.Regardless, can't we now say that Tebow is indeed being given a fair shot?
It's definitely been reported as an issue, though the public at large seems to have pretty much ignored that point. I made the following post not too long ago after the ESPN Mag article on him:I've seen a few things on twitter and other places that he isn't grasping things or able to read defenses in practice. Here's an article written yesterday that mentions it. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/pete-prisco/22385650/patriots-arrogance-on-full-display-with-tim-tebow-signing I guess I'm not familiar enough with the Pats roster enough to know if there is room for 3 QBs. I feel like the trend now is to roster 2 QBs and keep another the practice squad, at least for teams that have an elite and durable QB.Hairy Snowman said:...Who ever said Tebow didn't have a high football IQ? Link? I heard not able to throw the ball, yes. Not able to understand the playbook, no. Never heard that.I think the Pats will roster 3 QBs or, if Tebow looks functional, trade Mallet for a draft pick (like they have with so many of their trained QB backups).
When I posted it someone replied with scorn that lots of NFL players are kinesthetic learners, as if that was the point of the discussion. The real issue is that regardless of how he learns, he's not picked up what he needs to and been able to apply it at the speed needed in the NFL, and certainly not at the speed coaches want to see for an NFL game. When I saw the news of the signing, one of my first thoughts was that if Chad Johnson couldn't learn the Pats offense as a receiver, how was Tebow going to manage the much more difficult job of QB given the issues he'd already had in other places?I'm sure if they ever have to play him at QB long term that they would end up having to change their offense drastically from what they try to do with Brady or his other backups, much like Denver did.I've believed for awhile that a big part of the issues Tebow faces are his struggles with the mental aspects of the game. I think it's perhaps even a bigger issue for him than are the far more discussed issues with throwing accuracy. The ESPN magazine article does a good job of articulating similar to what I've heard of his situation:
More troubling for potential employers is that Tebow struggled badly with the mental side of the game, according to a league source. At age 7, he was diagnosed with dyslexia, a learning disability that affects how he reads and processes information, such as a playbook or game plan. Tebow won a Heisman Trophy and two BCS titles and graduated from Florida with a 3.7 GPA. But he scored a below-average (for QBs) 22 on his Wonderlic test. As a kinesthetic learner, Tebow absorbs information better through using flash cards and hands-on repetitive experience than the traditional method of memorizing diagrams, notes and Polaroids from a playbook. That doesn't mean Tebow isn't smart or that he couldn't develop into a brilliant, quick-thinking quarterback. It just hasn't happened yet. When the Broncos defense was on the field, offensive coaches would often tell Tebow the first series of plays they wanted to run when the team got the ball back. Tebow would nod, and they'd separate. And then, invariably, a short while later he'd ask for the information again. Sometimes this ritual would repeat right up until Tebow had to duck into the huddle and call the play. As a result, despite starting only 11 games in 2011, Tebow was flagged for delay of game an NFL-high seven times. Worse still was the fact that, according to scouts, Tebow almost never audibled because he struggled to quickly and properly read defenses. And of all the deadly sins Tebow committed against quarterbacking, this was the worst: lacking the self-awareness to recognize and fix these shortcomings. Maybe the most shocking part of Tebowmania isn't that he has been cast out of the NFL after just three years but that he lasted as long as he did.

Oddsmakers make Tim Tebow a big favorite to make the Patriots' 53-man Week 1 roster, but a solid underdog to throw a touchdown pass this season.
Those are just some of the props sportsbooks released as they try to capitalize on the resurgence of Tebow mania.
Tebow is a -400 favorite at Bovada to be on the opening-day roster, meaning you'd have to risk $400 to win $100 if you like Tebow to make the squad. On the other hand, he's a +200 underdog to throw a scoring pass this season.
While Bovada sets the Over/Under for Tebow's combined rushing and receiving touchdowns at 1.5, Sportsbook.com added passing touchdowns to the mix and set the line at 2.5 (Over -140).
Here's the full list of Tebow props at Bovada, courtesy of OddsShark.

I don't disagree that Tebow should be on a roster somewhere, but Im going to have to stop you at calling the Pats a" premier organization when it comes to finding / using talent". And don't let me being a Jets fan in NY fool you, I spent a good many years growing up in Boston. They didn't know what they had in Brady when they drafted him. That was luck, not masterly evaluation. They even took him off the field and put Bledsoe back in at one point. They can't draft a startable WR these days if their football lives depended on it and most of the FAs they bring in don't pan out. The Pats are almost as bad as the Jets in evaluating offensive talent, only they have Brady and BB to help hide that fact. But Ill tell you one thing the Patriots are premeir in: knowing when to get rid of a player. Its like they have a crystal ball and they know exactly who is done and when to trade them. If Welker couldn't hang on to a spot I doubt Tebow will. Again, don't get me wrong. I think Tebow deserves the shot to sit and learn behind a good QB and NE is a great landing spot for him to do that. I hope the guy can convince them to put him on the 53. But to think Tebow will start in NE in any capacity, any position, anytime soon is just wishful, hopeful thinking. He'll be lucky to sit and learn behind Brady. That's what he should be striving for right now. Not a starting spot on the field.Yeah, ok, right, and if Jeff Tuel, Patt Devlin and Matt Simms are on NFL rosters Tim Tebow sure as heck belongs on one too. The fact he ended up being signed by the premier organization in the league in terms of finding talent and recognizing how to use it, well it's an interesting by the way there. You kinda want to have your 2nd or 3rd string QB's be the type that can develop. Some teams have bums they hang onto, add the Pats to that list. This is the thing. Take a look at rosters around the NFL, look at the 2nd stringers and 3rd stringers and even 4th and 5th stringers. Tebow is really worse than all of those guys? The Pats have Mallett on their current roster and no one else? http://www.patriots.com/team/roster.html News alert: the Pats sign 3rd string QB.

The Jason Collins comment was a joke, but I'm sure you knew that ducktales. I'll eagerly await your response that it wasn't funny, ducktales.Dr Octopus, tebow being signed and collins not being signed doesn't disprove my point.
#1 majority of the teams didn't want to sign Tebow --hence why he had to go to a team where he has zero chance of starting--
#2 you keep mentioning that jason colins hasn't been signed yet, but it isn't possible for him to get signed yet --literally impossible at this point--, so every time you mention that I am going to think you're.... well.... dumb to be frank.
Last point, if you want to mock things I have said in the past at least be man enough to include my name in it, like Witz did in the other thread.
