Is the MFL rollover to 2025 this week? (2 Viewers)

usually by the weekend after the Super Bowl if my memory serves correctly
It's almost always the week after the Super Bowl. They usually post a message to each league home page saying that their servers will be taken offline while they upgrade. However, I believe the company was sold last year, so maybe the new owners have a different schedule in mind. None of my leagues have a message yet.
It has since been switched to this:
"The MyFantasyLeague.com web site is currently unavailable as we perform some necessary hardware and database upgrades on our system. We are hoping to be back up no later than late Sunday April 24th.
We apologize for any inconvenience."
Hopefully, the website isn't down for two and half months?
Edit: Also, April 24th isn't a Sunday.

Wut? They go down for a awhile to rollover to the new site. Am I missing something? No different from any organization that rolls out new software, except being down for several days is usually unacceptable for most companies that isn't a disaster recovery. I'm sure every year there are enhancements with the new year and not just rolling over the same software. If you want to complain about it taking several days (if it does), I can understand that, but it is the off-season, so I don't really care that much if it takes a few days.

If it ends up being 2 months, yeah. They service dynasty sites. Can't shut down for that long. Hopefully they aren't.

The message got changed back to a few hours...but I just checked and all of my MFL leagues are back online now

Where did you get the 2 months from? I've seen a few days before, but this is the off-season and isn't that big of a deal for me personally.

I thought it said Sunday at the latest, because I only looked at the word Sunday. I could have glanced over a month, but wouldn't think they would be day of the week specific on something 2 months out.

Reading this, I'm kind of glad my main keeper league switched over to Sleeper last year.
The acquisition by the private equity shop last year, along with the high cost to join, didn't give us the warm and fuzzies then and sounds like they're having some ongoing issues and are just rolling out a new app now.
For those that used it in 2024, how did you find it compared to previous years?

MFL has largely been the same since inception, from my perspective. Awful, awful UI. Website design circa 2003. No native mobile app and clunky mobile web support. Yet, it remains one of the most customizable platforms around. That's why our league has stuck with it. We'd have to change some of our scoring rules to move to another platform like Sleeper.

I hear you. We had to tweak a few of our rules - mainly defensive scoring - but none of them were that different or material enough to prevent us from switching to Sleeper. MFL is definitely superior in terms of customized reports, but that wasn't enough to keep us with MFL. It really boiled down to the lack of a native working app on MFL (as you said), compared to Sleeper's very good app. Most of us do our lineups/waivers, etc. off our phones rather than the desk app, and MFL was just brutal from an app perspective. And that's even before factoring in cost.

I keep the league I commish on MFL out of inertia and because all of our league records are there. I'm not really interested in learning a new interface at this stage of my life, and no one from the league has lobbied us to move elsewhere.

We probably would have been in the same position inertia-wise, but a bunch of us started a new league with our sons a few years ago using Sleeper, and it just rolled into our main league.

Again, when you look at it from a 10-12 team perspective, it's nothing... But it's legitimately criminal what MFL charges to run what others run, 95% similar or closer, for free.

I hear sleeper isn't DEVY friendly. Meaning, they don't have custom player ability and that is a must for DEVY while players are still an underclassman. Is that true? Also, are all other hostiing sites year round friendly for dynasty? I know yahoo isn't.

Cant answer for devy 100% , but I feel like Sleeper isn't made for that.

Anybody's MFL league(s) rolled over to 2025 yet?
We rolled ours over but rather than paying are thinking hard about moving to Sleeper due to the aforementioned price increase and lack of mobile app functionality. Been on MFL for all 13 years in this league.

I've rolled over all the MFL leagues I commish. This also includes two DEVY leagues for a total of 4 leagues.

At the very least, have the commish set up a free league and see how close they can get to your league settings you have in MFL.

I know that sleeper won't work for DEVY because of their inabiltiy to have custom players. Can someone post any negatives with sleeper for year round dynasty leagues? To be honest, if two of my leagues that aren't DEVY wanted to switch to sleeper, I would probably step down as commissioner of those two leagues because I'm not that interested in starting from scratch with sleeper as commish. In the whole sceme of things MFL fees split 12 ways is only about $6.90 for each teams where having the multiple league discount applies. No one should be losing sleep over $6.90 and if you do, then playing for money in fantasy probably isn't for you.At the very least, have the commish set up a free league and see how close they can get to your league settings you have in MFL.

Yeah, just like how if you don't send money friends and family in PayPal they charge a fee. However, if you make a mistake and send money to the wrong PayPal address you may or may not be able to recover it. Then you're at the mercy of whoever you sent it to. In PayPal if you send via Goods and Services you're covered for a mistake like that. Just another gotcha in the world of fees. Back to MFL, a fee of $6.90 per person isn't something anyone should lose sleep over and as commish I would rather use what I like, rather than switch and start over on something else. It's easy for someone else to ask another person to do that if they aren't the commish. If $6.90 is going to be the difference in someone wanting to play on a hosting site, then you're probably better off playing in a free yahoo league or something.

At least, you'd think they publish what's planned for this year to justify the increases, like an organic app, changes to the UI, etc. Crickets.
In 2015, the cost was $49.95 with the three discounts (early bird, multi-league, FBG). It's $79.95 now with the two discounts plus a processing fee. And the changes over 10 years has been negligible outside of the scripts provided by folks like "theeohiostate" and others in the MFL/Sharks forum.
With owners already deducting their 2025 entry fee from their 2024 prize money, prize money will have to go down again. Not coming out of my pocket with 16 leagues.
This may be the end for me.

We payout the entire paid in amount. The hosting site fee is separate. If it’s a 12 team league and the entry fee is $100, we payout the entire amount of $1,200. The hosting site fees for all of my leagues, except the initial league, is $82.81 /12 =$6.90 per team. That’s with the multi league discount. Peanuts. The initial league is only a few bucks more. People probably shouldn’t cry over the cost is something less than one lunch at McDonalds. In two leagues with a $100 entry fee we charge $110 and any overage goes to the highest scoring non-playoff team. I like that because any price increases is taken from that. This year it reduced some because of the MFL increase.

So you think 1/12th of the MFL cost is enough to make you want to switch? That of course excludes DEVY, because someone like sleeper can’t provide that service. Sometimes you’re in it because you like it. I’ve seen some negative ink regarding sleeper on this board. I’m not sure which thread.

The processing fee looks like a 3% fee for using a credit card. This has been a recent trend in retail and other businesses that have high volume credit card revenue. It makes people super salty to see that fee on a CC receipt even though they likely know that if it's NOT on the receipt it's added into the total price.

I paid all MFL fees by my PayPal balance, not a credit card and they did charge a processing fee of $2.86. This wasn't a PayPal fee it was a MFL fee. I think you're confusing paying by credit card with leaguesafe. It is true that if the commish sets LS to credit card mode instead of E-check, LS charges a fee. The commish has to change the payment mode in LS back to E-Check for those that want to have the funds come out of their checking account to avoid that fee, because even if they pay by E-Check, if the mode is still set on Credit Card, LS will charge a fee. I know this because as somone who plays in leagues that use LS (not a commish in those leagues), if the commish sets the mode for someone else to pay by credit card but forgets to set back to E-check mode, when I went to pay by E-Check it said it was going to charge a fee. So the commish set it back to E-Check payment mode and I paid by E-Check and wasn't charged a fee. I know I've gone down a rabbit hole here with LS, but that is the only payment I know of that does this. As for MFL, it looks like they are now charging a processing fee regardless how you pay.

Possibly. If you pay vis paypal friends/family that shouldn't incur a fee. If you pay goods/services, PayPal charges an x.xx% fee TO THE RECIPIENT for the return/refund eligibility. I'd expect that's why you paid a fee.
ETA - that fee is 2.99%.

When the commish is purchasing the league paying MFL fees by PayPal it is defaulting to a processing fee regardless. What you said is true, that if you send money to someone else using goods and services instead of family and friends they charge a fee and don't if you send friends and family, but the commmish doesn't have a choice when paying MFL fees purchasiing the league. The only choice was the method of payment.
One thing of note regarding sending money to someone by PayPal with friends and family (no fee) vs goods and services (fee), is that if you make a mistake and send money to a PayPal address you didn't intend to, you're at the mercy of whoever you sent it to, to give you a refund. If you send via goods and services (with a fee), you are protected by PayPal. I just went though this recently, where I sent a large some of money to the wrong PayPal address and went round and round with PayPal, where they pointed this out to me. Thankfully the address I sent the money to were kind enough to refund that money. Basically PayPal said I was screwed otherwise and should have sent the money using goods and services and not family and friends. Where this gets messy is that I ask league members to pay their league fees via friends and family so I don't get charged a fee. Because they are sending a lower amount ($100) than I'm paying out winners, we don't want a fee charged. That would mess up the total pay-in when you're talking about 12 owners paying through PayPal if they sent via goods and services (fee), vs friends and family (no fee). When it comes time to payout winners throuugh PayPal, I only send the large amount via goods and services (fee) to be protected. The smaller amounts, say < $200, I'll send via friends and family (no fee) and take a chance everything goes where it's supposed to. I know this seems complicated to most, but these are little nuances with how MFL, PayPal and leaguesafe all have with charging a fee to the customer. Some of which you can control, and some you cannot, such as when the commish purchases the league for the new season.

It's becoming similar to why people left Sportsline back in early 2K, starting to get priced out. There are similar if not better products for less. Raising prices and then throwing an unexplained fee on top does not give anyone warm fuzzy feelings.
For my main local, we won't care and we'll continue to use because the site fee is branched out separately from the dues/transaction fees and also we need two player pools to draft from. However, we'll probably be calling it quits in 2 years after 30+ years anyways as the drive just isn't remaining for little keeper leagues after all that time. That said, there's no reason to use MFL for a simple redraft/keeper league anymore.
Dynasty leagues though are going to be harder to figure out as it's a smaller flat entry. Now have to either discuss increasing that entry, finding a new host, or just accept paying out less.

Sleeper does not support salary cap and/or contract leagues so no it does not support many dynasty settings.
