Is there a clear cut Turner handcuff? (1 Viewer)

Sounds like Norwood is getting healthy....I suppose if Turner went down, it'd be a shared carries deal with Norwood and Snelling....Anyone disagree? Why?

Most are going to say Snelling, and that is fine.... but Snelling is a plodder. He is slow with no wiggle and can only take what the defense gives him.

Norwood is much more dynamic... but he is seemingly always hurt.

So a committee it would be. If they are both healthy, a slight nod goes to Snelling due to goal line carries.

Norwood makes a decent filler in PPR leagues, especially if Turner is down. In 2008, when Turner was a monster, Norwood still put up 800 total yards and 6 TDs in a part time role.

Snelling may be a plodder, but he played very well in Turner's absence last year.I would think that if Turner went down again, Norwood would play a slightly more prominent role than with Turner in there, but still as a complementary, change-of-pace guy. Snelling IMO would still get the lion's share of carries, including the all-important goal line looks.

Norwood wouldn't last 3 games at 20+ touches a game. If Turner went down, Snelling would get the most carries, it might go to 60-40 in favor of Snelling vs all others, and it might crack open the door for Dmitri Nance to get some work.

Snelling...

Norwood simply isn't built to take more than 10-12 touches/games. Snelling is underrated IMO - much better receiving threat out of the backfield than Turner so he makes up some for his lack of breakaway ability.

This is probably a situation where you handcuff him with a late round flyer on another team. I'd rather have Kareem Huggins or Darren McFadden than Jason Snelling.

This. It would be similar to the Jamaal Charles-Thomas Jones situation. 60-40 in favor of the more durable back.

Is Nance ahead of Antone Smith?

In my mind he is, altho checking the depth chart for the JAX game shows Smith is ahead of him. I just have a gut feeling it will end up being Nance. We'll probably get a good look at both on Thur, I could be wrong. My guess, by the way, is that the last game might fool you on how many carries either Snelling or Norwood might get if Turner went down. With Norwood hurt most of pre-season, they might want to get him some extra work, so I wouldn't base much on that. I firmly believe Snelling is the handcuff.

Don't ;) on Antone Smith. Definitely someone to stash in deep leagues. He's been running well and cathing the ball well thus far. Was an uber stud in HS and FSU.

I think people may be remembering the games Snelling had TDs in... because he was not an effective runner, for the most part.He played ADEQUATELY in Turner's absence. Snelling's rushing logs in the 7 games he got double digit carries:

18/61 = 3.38 ypc

25/76 = 3.04

10/35 = 3.50

19/37 = 1.94

16/59 = 3.68

15/68 = 4.53 (week 16 vs Buff)

25/147 = 5.88 (week 17 vs Tampa)

That looks like two good games at the end of the season aginst patsy run Ds, but five mediocre/bad rushing performances before that, albeit against a better level of competition. Snelling is 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

Norwood will not be given a starter's workload, but Snelling won't be given 20+ touches if Norwood is healthy, unless ATL is running out the clock in the 4th quarter.

Basically Snelling will only be a fantasy asset when he scores a TD or is facing a terrible run D. Norwood isn't worth starting either, unless both Turner and Snelling are injured AND Norwood is healthy... unlikely to say the least.

So Snelling is the more adequate handcuff to Turner... but usually a poor option to have to start.

Not to sound like a jackass. but how deep of a league do you have to really be in to think about Antone Smith as someone to draft. Not saying leagues don't exist but geez.. we must be talking 30 man rosters or something..
