Is there anything more cluttered than FBG Email updates? (1 Viewer)

Am I the only one who deletes these 95% of the time b/c they are so messy? In a world in which quick, clear, and concise information is at a premium, why do I have to search for the substance in a FBG breaking news update?

Joe and David - you guys need to fix this. People do not want to wade through paragraphs of disclaimers and ads and non-substantive stuff to get the news and your take. Those two parts, the ESSENTIAL stuff that we love you for, are not highlighted or easily distinguishable. They are the same font as all of the other stuff. Your advertisments in the Gordon email have several bold and colored items that first draw attention from your eyes.

You guys are the experts, so I'm sure this is just the price of doing business and you have weighed the pro's and con's, but man, it really seems like the format could be much, MUCH better.

They arent in business to give you free, easy to distinguish information. They're in business to sell you stuff.

In the last couple of years, I feel like FBG has become too cluttered with ads, gimmicky partnerships, and a damn near overload of information. I thought it was perfect when the daily emails had maybe one of two personal notes from Joe/David, and the rest was player related news. I was also completely fine with the pre-season articles like Spotlights, Roundtables, a couple one-off articles and a couple of apps (VDB, DD). Now, you can find a 10 page essay on the statistical analysis of Big Ben's performances in game below 48 degrees Fahrenheit when his facial hair is greater than 1.25 inches long.

Don't get me wrong, I can work my way through the other junk and get what I need out of my subscription, but outside of the Forums, the site and their products feel seem bloated and corporate. I don't blame them though, if that's what folks want and they are profiting from it.

:goodposting:

I dont even bother opening them any more.

I find NFL.com to be more cluttered. Site keeps reloading and launching video ads and movie trailers. You just want to see a score and a few stat lines but the page keeps moving and reloading to make room for video clips of 4 yard gains but even those are preceded by commercials for T-mobile or Verizon. head/wall.

Yeah, it's horrible.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ >>>> anything else

Nothing worse than content being littered with ads, promos, sponsors, sweepstakes, contests run by third parties.

Just sell the site already.

Eh.

I'm fine with everything. We live in a marketed society. Pretty soon we are going to be able to purchase premium services that specifically exclude adds or other ways to make money I'm sure.

I haven't got those in years. There is a setting somewhere where you can change it to not receive them. Account settings maybe?

My thoughts too. I've been on this board since probably 1997 or so. It's just way too overdone now.

Agreed. NBA.com is awful as well. But these are things FBG should be avoiding, not emulating.

Hack is right, it's gotta be $$$ because no one can open an email from FBG and think this is the clearest, most concise and reader friendly way to deliver content to our readers. It's horrible.

Thing is, there is a TON of great content in most of those emails. AND they could still move their "product" even after cleaning up their delivery system(s).

I don't know their analytics, but i guarantee that with a focused optimization effort on both their site and emails they would see improvement in :

1) email open rates

2) email click rates

3) last click revenue from email campaigns

4) website bounce rate

5) website time on site

6) website conversion rate

7) total revenue

8) net margins

So, only their entire business would improve. With all that said, they seem to be doing pretty damn well, but who couldn't use a better bottom line?

It does take close to 10 seconds to find the update on a 5" screen. Borderline unforgivable.
Oh god, I don't even try on my mobile devices. Finding the substance would be impossible.
I was just thinking about this issue today. getting to the content is such a huge PIA on my mobile where I handle email 95% of the time. It's why I don't read them except for the few days leading up to my draft.

I think they're sending this spam to an unused e-mail address now, thankfully. I still subscribe to the site, but subscription e-mail updates? The 1990s called they want their cutting-edge means of communication back.

I hate to say it but I agree. I don't recommend them to anyone anymore because they get turned off after 3 of those spam filled emails

Premium services? This already exists in the mobile app market. Or were you talking specifically about this site?

I laugh when their "breaking news" emails usually come after 200 tweet's from guys I follow on twitter and the shark pool thread is already up to 15 pages.

Good news is the massive app and FFPC ads at the top will go away once the season starts... HAVE To, right?

Now, let's get to work on cutting down the "featured article" name and descriptions from 75 to, maybe 2 or 3?

Agree with OP, it's been harder and harder having to scroll down to see what new Christian rock band Joe is listening to these days.

Yes. The website itself.
they are in desperate need of a good UI and design person.

Its a very difficult challenge, presenting a lot of data in a consumable and useful fashion.

Why would you laugh? FBG are not claiming their emails to be faster than Schefter on Twitter. It is a nice resource for those who can't be on Twitter and/or the forums all day.

For the freebie emails, whatever. But paying subscribers should not be getting these ad-filled emails.

Maybe they could have two email lists. one for the regular paying customer folks and then one for the VIP's who spend 12 hours a day on the free non-football related message board.

They're the CNN of fantasy football news alerts. It's not longer breaking news if it happened 5 hours ago.

I enjoy reading them but agree about how busy they are and how much jibberjabber you have to get through to read what you want about actual football.
