Is there anything more cluttered than FBG Email updates? (1 Viewer)

But how else would we know that Matthew Berry said FBGs is "The Best Premium Fantasy Football Only Site On The Planet"?
Say what you want about Matthew berry but (if you just swap the loves and the hates) he pretty much nailed last years preseason love/hate column.

It's actually really amazing how wrong he was.
It's almost like he is just guessing.

They arent in business to give you free, easy to distinguish information. They're in business to sell you stuff.
yes which we pay a subscription for.I agree with tgunz it takes way too long to get to what I want to read.

I don't care about the leagues you are trying to fill, or fanduel, or whatever other service that's being sold.

I want information. Period.

I disagree. If you follow a few of the top people they almost always retweet from their source which you most likely aren't already following.
well, it's nice to have options. not everybody loves and uses twitter.the emails Joe sends out aren't meant to replace twitter for breaking stories faster than everybody else. I think they are meant to alert subscribers to bigger news stories that they should be aware of without having to wait for the daily newsletter updates.
i agree with this.

I have to pile on since today, after my normal big flip scroll past all the normal nonsense, what do we get inside the real update?? #2 is an ad.

So now ads in the update part itself? Separate the paid people to a low ad, no ad blast.

Hey Guys,

I know we've got work to do on making the email updates more useful to people. Especially on phones.

And for sure, on the breaking news, we don't try to compete with Twitter. It's not possible. In fact, most of the breaking news we send has quotes from the Twitter post we're telling folks about. For you guys that can stay close with Twitter, you'll never get anything new from our breaking news emails. They're meant for people who aren't able to be following twitter as closely throughout the day. And without the character / space limits, we can talk a bit more about the topic. LIke with Wes Welker's story yesterday that he was moving into the "exercise phase" and we had the few paragraphs from Dr. Bramel on his take for that. But for sure, we'll never scoop Twitter.

Thanks for letting us know what you're seeing there. For the folks that use the Email Updates, we'll try to make it a better product for next season.

This thread is loaded, more than a few chuckles, thanks guys. I don't read a lot of the email stuff but it comes in handy when you are away for a bit. Not all of us can be nor want to be hooked up to the internet all day. In fact I find folks who are just sitting on the internet all day tend to get pretty gnarly and vicious with each other, all male dominated forums are similar after a while.

Did you ever end up getting that epic mount?

I agree with your breaking news approach which is not trying to be the tool yelling FIRST, but has value add and your opinion on what it is means for the player and others around him. That piece works, especially for those of us who don't waste away the day on twitter. Just tone down the barrage of ads and cross promotion, especially to paying customers. That is a big complaint. I, like many others here, have no problems paying for product. But once I am sold, I no longer need you to tell me why I bought the darn thing.

It took me another read of your post to realize what happened here. Yeah, if you flop his loves and hates, he did a fine job. Maybe it's volume with him. He picks 57 players who he hates.. well a few of them are bound to have bad seasons. So instead of us noticing that he whiffed on Philip Rivers and Calvin Johnson.. and whiffed on Spiller and Mendenhall, and a slew of others... he wants us to notice his psychic powers on Jimmy Graham on the loves side of the article.

It takes like fifteen scrolls to get down to anything useful. And I'm a subscriber already. They need to figure out how to send the spam only to non subscribers.
Today's breaking news about the Mallet trade was completely lost in all the adds. I never saw it when I skimmed through it.

There is nothing to figure out. It's already figured. This is something that could be implemented quite simply.

That's why I rely on emails informing me of league transactions. By the time I see owners in three or four leagues make moves for the same player, I figure out something is up and do a quick Google news search to get the skinny.

oh yeah :hifive:

Am I the only one who deletes these 95% of the time b/c they are so messy? In a world in which quick, clear, and concise information is at a premium, why do I have to search for the substance in a FBG breaking news update?

Joe and David - you guys need to fix this. People do not want to wade through paragraphs of disclaimers and ads and non-substantive stuff to get the news and your take. Those two parts, the ESSENTIAL stuff that we love you for, are not highlighted or easily distinguishable. They are the same font as all of the other stuff. Your advertisments in the Gordon email have several bold and colored items that first draw attention from your eyes.

You guys are the experts, so I'm sure this is just the price of doing business and you have weighed the pro's and con's, but man, it really seems like the format could be much, MUCH better.
:goodposting:

I dont even bother opening them any more.
I unsubscribed from the daily e-mails for this very reason. I used to love them but now everything is too cluttered up.
