From reading the play by play,
JT O'Sullivan had 20 pass attempts, they broke down like this.
Bryant Johnson 5 Targets
Vernon Davis 4 Targets
Josh Morgan 3 Targets
Frank Gore 4 Targets
Z Keasey 2 Targets
A. Battle 1 Target
D. Foster 1 Target
It seems the 49ers gave up a 6:35 FG drive to open the 2nd half. The KO return man then muffed the return. ARI then kills another 4:22 on the ensuing 33 yard TD drive.
SF then goes on a 13 play FG drive that eats up 6:58 off the clock.
ARI counters with a 4th quarter killing 10:08 FG drive.
SF gets the ball back with 1:57 to go in the game and JT O'Sullivan promptly gets sacked and fumbles the ball away. Game over.
As someone that was forced into starting Bruce this weekend, this wasn't good at all. However, the 49ers only had possession for just under 23 minutes of this game. They ran just 40 plays on offense, in contrast ARI ran 69 plays on offense.
This was in large part due to the 5 turnovers that the 49ers had.
Whether or not this is a trend or just a bad offensive start for the 49ers is yet to be determined. Also, I only saw parts of the game, and wasn't able to determine if ARI was rolling coverage to take away Bruce. It would seem that would be the smart way to defend them, at least until you see who they prefer to throw to. Bruce very well may have had plays called for him, but the pass may have gone in another direction due to double coverage.
Any inside info on how that played out from homers?
