Issac Bruce (1 Viewer)

I bought into the hype/drank the cool aid on Issac Bruce. We have already discussed Holt's 70%-ism ad naseum. Coming on the heels is the following on Bennett:

Wondering if those who rostered Bruce will pencil him in on Sunday, knowing for almost all owners he was not drafted with the intention to start in week1.

Anyone going with this dude?

I'm in. We can start four WRs in my league and he's locked in as my WR4. His Draft Day value was ridiculous and I see no reason to believe he'll suffer a major decline. Yes he's getting up there in years but so are Harrison and Owens. The Rams will throw it a lot because that's what they do and if Holt's injury does linger that only enhances Bruce's potential in my opinion. He isn't going to be a major source of TDs but in a PPR league I think he has very nice value as a WR3/WR4.

i love the reverend and hes on my roster this year. he also had 1 catch for 6 yards @ Car last year.

i dont like his week 1 matchup. doesnt mean i wont use him, but im not excited about it.

I expect him to put up top 25 numbers this year, and am definitely starting him in two of the three leagues I've rostered him.

I'm thrilled to have him backing up TO and Roy Williams on my roster. Great value pick very late in drafts.

Bruce owner here also, but I'm sitting him in favor of Santonio Holmes this week. I made my decisions based on the teams they are playing.

Here were my choices in a start 2 WR league:

- A. Johnson vs. KC - Start (I think Schaub will carve up the KC Defense)

- S. Holmes vs. Cleveland - Start (Expecting a big play from Holmes and around 4 Rec. for 105yds and 1TD)

- I. Bruce vs. Carolina - Sitting (Against a solid Defense)

- K. Curtis vs. GB - Sitting (Until he proves he's worth a start)

I want to play him, but I don't know who I would bench between current starters Santonio, Ma. Clayton, Cotchery, Braylon, M. Barber. I suppose I'll make my decision on Sunday. I'm afraid Cotchery is the odd one out if I make a move to start Bruce.

I would play Bruce this week over Holmes and Clayton, for what it's worth.

Not to turn this into a WSIS thread but if your league is PPR no way would I sit Cotchery. Of the group above I'd start Bruce over Clayton this week. But that's me.

No love for Clayton there 'eh Wood? You have Clayton ranked at 27 and Bruce at 32 in the rankings. I've got them at Clayton 34, Bruce 35. Hmmm, Cotchery at 21. I just don't like the Jets scoring more than 17 against NE.

I actually do have Clayton with the slightly better numbers; but I'm developing a big-time man crush on Bruce. Was already loving his value this year, and then with Holt's knee and the fact that Bennett is just awful, I've started thinking he could be a really shark WR3.

I hope you're right. I think Top 25 might be a bit pie in the sky but I don't think he's due for a massive decline like some are predicting. I don't see Bennett taking his starting job and Holt's ongoing injury should serve to get Bruce even more targets. The only concerns I have about Bruce are the lack of TD upside and a possible injury. But unless you really reached for him he should be no worse than your WR3 and probably a WR4 and maybe even a WR5 given his ADP so you should be covered on both counts.

Doesn't the news about Holt looking 100% for week 1 temper your expectations for Bruce a bit? I own Ike in both my leagues, but I think he is getting a bit overrated the last few days...

By his own admission Holt has said he doesn't think he'll be 100% this season. Now he's pretty darn good obviously and can play at a high level even if he isn't 100% but when a player comes out and says he isn't at full strength that means much more to me than when a head coach provides contradictory info. But that's me.

Bruce was WR25 LAST YEAR, and I haven't seen him drafted that early in more than a dozen leagues I've done so far this year. So no, I don't worry that he's overvalued. He may be FAIRLY valued if Holt is 100%, but I'm still seeing a guy you can get for WR30-WR35 ADP that will outproduce that if healthy.

I can buy that. But based on last year's numbers is he now only to be counted on as a yardage guy? Also what was up w/ the quote about how he thinks he will be All Pro this year and NFL MVP as reported in Newsday? I like it, but seems a bit out of character for him. Care to post your current projection for Bruce Jason?

Count me in as a member of the "I Believe in Ike in 2007" campaign. I have him in a start 3 WR league, as well as in the FBG subscribers contest. He knows the offense, Holt has health concerns, and he is a proven player. All of that for the very modest price being paid spells V-I-C-T-O-R-Y with Ike this season.

As for my :lmao: on the news coming out that Torry says he is 100%.

1. It's getting closer to week 1 and Holt has probably been hounded with questions from the media asking about his health. Even though he may not be 100% if he says so, maybe they'll leave him alone? Players lie about their health all the time. Why would this be any different?

2. When asked if WR Torry Holt was 100 percent healthy, Rams coach Scott Linehan said Tuesday, "He looks 100 percent to me today." Holt is unofficially questionable for Week 1 vs. Carolina after missing a pair of preseason games with swelling in his left knee. Looks and is are two different things.

3. A few days earlier Linehan said "Torry is not hurt; he's just not 100 percent," Linehan said. "He could have played. Instead of 85 percent for the first game, I'm trying to get him close to 100 percent."

Sounds like a problematic situation to me... :bag:

I'm not too sure how overrated he is in other leagues, but I had a draft last night and I got him as my 4th WR in the 13 round. Compared to who else was there, I feel he is a great 3-4 WR. Not exactly sure why his TD totals have been so low, but with how high Bulger is ranked, somebody has to catch them.

What do you think about guys that have both Holt and Bruce on our rosters? Would you be more or less inclined to start Bruce (instead of, say, Furry) if you already have Holt?

It depends on so many factors. If Holt is Holt, then you'd start him every week regardless. If not then you have to weigh the matchups for BOTH him and Bruce. Then it depends on whether your comfortable marrying your fortunes to the Rams offense each week...with both Holt and Bruce, you'll probably live and die with how the Rams do especially in a 2 WR league. Probably the best way to do it, is, assuming Holt is what he was (which isn't a lock by any means), start him each week and then play the matchup with Bruce. When the Rams play a weak passing team, start both...when they have a tougher matchup, bench Bruce and stick with Holt.

For what it's worth, it would be a third starter. I have a hard time, because normally I would have no problem starting Bruce as #3 over a lot of 3rd tier guys. But the "all or nothing" aspect has me a little spooked.

I would probably start Holt every week unless he proves not worthy of it, and play the matchup with Bruce. The bottom line is if St. Louis has a good matchup, it's a good enough offense where everyone will get theirs that week.

Bruce's stats at home, and on turf in general, are VERY impressive. Last year @ home he averaged 77 yards a game, and all of this TDs came at home as well.

A guy offered me Todd Heap and Issac Bruce last week for Antonio Gates and Brandon Marshall and I turned it down. I'm kind of regretting it now. This season can start at anytime so I can see what my team will actually do.

Don't be crazy. You did the right thing by not trading Gates.

All this recent man love for Bruce has disrupted my strat for week one. It almost seems Bruce has become a must start and I thought I would pull Clayton as my WR3. According to Wilmer Clayton is a MUST start. Now I have Lee Evans vs. Champ (dont think that warrants pulling Evans) and also have Reggie Brown. Im leaning towards pulling Brown but it pains me because he is a big play threat!

Pull me back from the edge. My poor receiver corps includes Evans, Berrian, Cotchery, and Ike (basicly traded away my draft for LT), and I'm thinking of starting the Rev over Berrian against a nasty charger D.

Prelim numbers have Bruce with 13 targets yesterday, compared to Holt's 6.

Any particular reason for this?

He's good and the Rams threw it a lot.I was a bit nervous about Bruce going forward without Pace. But he was terrific yesterday and if Bulger can just get the time Bruce could still have the value some of us believed he had going into the season. There are no loss of skills here. The concern I have now is Bulger's health. He got beat around pretty good yesterday. The Rams really need to get the running game going so defenses have to play them more honest.

I've got Holt and Bruce in the same league and I only started Holt yesterday so I was paying attention to this. A few items were at play here but I think the biggest problem was the lack of time Bulger had to throw down field. First thing to know is 4 of Bruce's targets came in less than one minute near the end of the game when the 49'ers were providing him a deep cushion. During this time and other times during the game I was not able to see Holt run his routes as it was not shown on the screen but I expect he ran deep to intermediate routes while Bruce ran short routes designed for a quick strike. Bulger did not have the time necessary to wait for Holts pattern to develop but often, including near the end of the game, Bruce ran a short route with a big cushion and that's were Bulger went. Since I could not see if Holt got open on his deep or intermediate routes it's possible Bulger did not throw to him because he did not percieve him to be open which would be cause for concern as I would than start to wonder if he's lost some burst due to his knee and advancing age. But than again even if that's the case he did have Nate Clements covering him and he did grab 5 out of 6 targets thrown his way so I believe the main reason was lack of time for Bulger to let the play develop and possibly throwing away from Clements.

I'm going to pay close attention to this as it reminds me a little of Cincy last year. O-line gets dinged up, provides less time/protection and T.J. producing = to C.J. due to T.J. being a better possession type WR and running the faster-read routes. May be the same thing shaking up in the Lou.

ETA: FWIW, Ike was on my bench this week, but I may end up chasing points in week 3...

I also put Bruce on the bench this week (for James Jones vs. that Swiss cheese Giant secondary). I know Jones will eventually have some nice weeks, but, I'm gonna start Bruce until either he gets hurt or Bulger gets hurt.

I traded Alstott and a 2nd round Rookie/FA Draft Pick for Bruce back in 02. The guy who traded him thought he was too old. He's been my 3 WR for 5 years now. Gotta love the Good Reverend.

But have you won any titles besides, "Toilet Bowl Champ", in those 5 years? Ike was a big part of my championships in the late 90's. I have him in one redraft that we start 4WR's and he won't crack my line-up until the bye weeks. He will be hit or miss, like most 2nd Wr's.
