Chris Carpenter was lifted from Tuesday's spring exhibition game with an apparent injury.Can it get any worse for the Cardinals? Carpenter threw 32 pitches -- 17 for strikes -- before calling for a trainer and then walking off the mound. The Cards have already lost right-hander Adam Wainwright to Tommy John surgery and can't afford another injury in the starting rotation. Look for an update later this afternoon.

Chris Carpenter felt a twinge in his hamstring while throwing a bullpen session Sunday.The Cards were hoping that he might be able to return from his strained left hamstring and start Friday's Grapefruit League game, but that's looking doubtful at the moment. Carpenter's status for Opening Day is now officially up in the air here in early March. He has a little over three weeks to get where he needs to be physically
