It's Jimmy Clausen time.... (1 Viewer)

Good chance Jimmy Clausen gets the starting nod in week 2 with Moore's injury.

He has great running backs and Steve Smith.

While Bradford gets all the love, the supporting cast for Clausen is much better.

I'll freely admit that I hated Clausen in college and don't like him much now either. But you never REALLY know until they hit the field.

Opinions?

25 carries for DeAngelo, 20 carries for Stewart, 10-15 passes for Clausen...Fox will play it not close to the vest but inside the vest.

I wish I could agree with you, but after the last game, where he kept throwing the ball with Matt Moore instead of using his running backs, even though it was a tight game...I honestly have no idea what Fox is doing or thinking.

Clausen gets a lot of heat for being a d-bag ... but the kid carried a more then mediocre ND team for the last two seasons. I think it is early to start him but he really can't be that much worse then the QB play they have had over the last 2 seasons.

If Moore can't play, I think they will be very conservative with Clausen. Also the OL needs to play much better than they did in the Giants game. Last year the OL started out slow so hopefully this just a case of being rusty again. The play calling needs to be better as well. They continued to have Moore throw it at the Giants GL, and they have two great backs in Williams and Stewart, and didn't use either at the GL. That is inexcusable.

Fox has no clue. Also, the OC - Davidson for some reason thinks he has Joe Montana at QB (incl. last year). He is trying to make a name for himself. Fox is allowing it because of his lack of coaching ability.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/461842-...rolina-panthers

Last qualification fit this past week's game to a T.

You also must panic often and early and abandon the run at all costs at the first sign of a momentum shift in a game no matter what quarter your team is in.

Moore won't be getting his job back.
He hasn't lost his job, and Fox will put him back under center as soon as he is given the healthy green light. Anyone who has paid attention to Fox over the years knows that he will give Moore more than one opportunity to succeed.

Fox stated today that Moore will absolutely start if healthy. Fox has chosen Moore as his guy, so don't expect Clausen to take the job anytime soon...because that's the John Fox way. Remember, this is the guy who started Deshaun Foster over DeAngelo Williams for TWO YEARS.

The only way Clausen takes the job is if Moore can't go this week, and Clausen has a fantastic game. Even then, I would say it's only about a 50/50 shot given Fox's history.

Which was the right thing to do. DeAngelo could not block worth a damn during those two years, the Panthers had a bad OL, and he danced too much behind that bad OL. He wasn't ready during those two years to be the lead back, and Foster was the right call. DeAngelo even admits he didn't "get it" until the summer before his 3rd year.

I think it's unlikely that Fox will go back on his word that Moore will remain the starter when healthy.

Moore expected to practice, start for Panthers vs. Bucs

Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Moore, who sustained a concussion late in the Panthers' 31-19 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, is expected to be cleared to practice this week and should start Sunday's home opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday.

Moore is feeling well and is communicating fine, said the source, who described Moore's concussion as very mild.

Moore has to go through a battery of tests to meet new guidelines before taking the field, so nothing definitive regarding his playing status has been determined at this point. He has been listed as day-to-day. Rookie Jimmy Clausen is the Panthers' backup quarterback.

Panthers coach John Fox said Moore was "feeling way better" Monday, one day after he was knocked out of the game and sent to the hospital for evaluation following a hard, blind-side hit by Osi Umenyiora in the final minutes of the Giants' win. But Fox said Moore might have suffered the concussion on the previous drive, when he lost a fumble after a hard hit by Mathias Kiwanuka, one of four times the quarterback was sacked.

I may agree with you about his rookie year, but in his second season, DeAngelo was clearly the better player. His blocking was adequate, albeit not quite as Foster...but still perfectly acceptable.Bad offensive line or not, check out the stats. He may have danced, but he produced...2006 - 121 rushes, 501 yards, 4.1ypc (Foster averaged 4.0ypc)2007 - 144 rushes, 717 yards, 5.0ypc (Foster averaged 3.5ypc)

Yes it was sarcasm. If you've followed my post on the Car RB situation you'd realize I'm more than aware of Fox's stubbornness.

His production was usually in garbage time or running out the clock. His blocking was not adequate in his second year. He improved tremendously after his second year in all phases of the game. I remember a lot of his teammates were quoted that training camp saying he looked like a totally different player.

Gotta expect Fox will be looking at things differently then he has in the past..

I just knew that Moore wasn’t going to last this year. Clausen is going to be a stud. Mark it down. I am not a ND fan, hate them as much as the next guy. But Clausen is a special talent. He’ll be better than Bradford. Watch him this weekend tear up the Bucs defense. I am putting money on it.

Since no one is paying anything to pick him up, I am waiting for free add/drops to pick him ahead of next week’s blind bid frenzy.

Gotta be :goodposting:

Not sure TB def is a good play this week if Clausen starts. Carolina will likely be able to run all over them. This will keep the sacks, int's, and turnovers down...I would think.

what parts do you think are sarcasm (serious question). the 'special talent" stuff is a little over the top, but I could certainly see this guy turning into a well above average QB (in the mold of a rivers not a brees).

Jerry Richardson went from being beloved to strongly disliked fairly quickly for Panthers fans. He may be making whatever point he's trying to make, but it's at the expense of his football team. Way to follow through on that promise to do everything in your power to deliver a winner, JR.

Back on topic, Clausen may start next week...but it won't matter. Even if I had Panthers players on my fantasy team, I probably wouldn't be starting anyone except Steve Smith and possibly DeAngelo. And even then I would second guess myself.

Who else is there on that team?

Clausen looked like he could do a better job, but without a strong offensive game plan, and without strong WR options, he'll likely not be worth a thought fantasy wise. I liked seeing him work that last drive. He threw a few balls off mark (one to far out of reach resulting in a tip/int) but he stayed pretty composed out there. His arm isn't fantastic, it's slightly above average, and he's still a raw talent, but I believe he's a better option the Moore. And would someone please take over the pregame planning and play calling... jeeze...

Offensively, Stewart is about the only other guy. I was mainly making that statement to say that I would never consider starting a Carolina QB.If you start IDP players though, you can add Beason and Conner to the list of players that I would start.

Is he still on the team?

I feel liberated that he's no longer on any of my teams. I had doubts about him from the beginning. Now there is no doubt, he sucks. Now I know it's not wise to give up on a rookie and all, but he never gave me warm and fuzzy feelings like Bradford does.

I have to be honest, I am worried about Clausen for the future. I did not expect him to light it up, but he looked lost, lacked confidence and it was really ugly.

Now, sure we can make excuses that he had no weapons, and the play calling sucked, and on and on, but he really just stunk it up.

Also, there is the who knows factor? As in will fox be back? Does Clausen have a future with a new coaching staff? How good or bad is Clausen? He was obviously not close to being ready to start and hopefully he gains some confidence and can make a go of it in the future.

There is a reason he fell so far. NFL GM's know more then Mel Kiper. Period, end of story.

I don't like this argument at all..... NFL GM's can miss just as much as they hit. There are reasons guys like Tom Brady fall to the sixth round and a guy like Russel is drafted 1st overal.... It is extremely difficult to predict how guys will do once they make that step to the next level. Kiper has just as much chance of being right about players as NFL GM's.

Al Davis drafted Russell. Who knows how far he would have fallen if not. Tom Brady didnt play in college hardly so that was a gamble pick. Anyone who watched Notre Dame football could pretty much tell you that Clausen is not very good. Not in the same stratosphere as Bradford.

I'm surprised at all the people who are giving up on him already. I don't know if my memory incorrectly serves me, but the shark pool seems way more impatient this year.

Clausen struggled mightily in his first year at Notre Dame too, and progressively got better year after year. Despite Clausen showed little success on deep balls so far in the NFL, he was very good at it in his later years at Notre Dame.

I still think Clausen's going to be a good NFL and FF QB in good time. If you can get him for next to nothing, which looks to be the case in a good number of leagues, I would go for it.

Holy hell batman, Jimmy Clausen is the absolute suck. How could anyone think that this kid is an NFL qb? Mel Kiper must be on the take for pumping him up. Plus there were posters on this board saying he was going to be better then Bradford. Wow. Words really cannot describe how putrid this kid is and as a Panther fan I am balls to the wall hellbent on getting Mallett this year. Now that is an NFL qb.

I just figured it out, he looks like a lesser version of Joey Harrington. Perfect analogy.

Several are blinded by those gaudy stats against that cream puff sched at ND. I've never seen a QB so hyped with that light of a resume coming out of college. If he didn't play for ND he probably would not have been drafted.
