I've lost 45 el bees since February through dieting. What now? (1 Viewer)

No one mentioned biking, from what I saw. Get a stationary bike for at home. Cover the faceplate that shows time and distance. You'll be riding that for an hour before you know it. A good starting pace is 12 miles in an hour. That is one mile every five minutes. I can do 14 in an hour on lower resistance but doing 12 an hour on higher resistance is "better" as you go on.

20-30 minutes at the gym 3 times a week is enough to see results. Many people never progress because they can't get their diet right. If your diet is as good as you say you could definitely see results without killing yourself at the gym. Bench, squat, deadlift, and maybe some presses is really all you need.
This right here. But don't do squat and deadlift in the same day.

congrats on the weight loss, that's awesome.

If you are doing a lot of walking, you should consider a fitbit. You can track steps and try to increase the amount of walking you do during the week.

Lost 15 by just cutting out soda, eating more salads at dinner  , and taking my kids for a walk every night.

Back down to a svelte 130.

You drink Poweraid Zero, soda and a lot of fast food. What was your diet like before? Affinity for tubs of Crisco?

You are already doing good with the walking. Cut out the soda and fast food, stop drinking poweraid for Pedro's sake.

How about this question:

What exercises should I do to firm my stomach muscles? I mean, I'm guessing sit-ups. But are there others that I should be doing? Things I can do in my house would probably be better than something that requires a gym trip.
That said, best at home workout I've seen for building core strength is the North Carolina Medicine Ball Workout.
This looks pretty decent. Do you or have you done it?
I have done it.
I gave this North Carolina thing a try today. Good lord. I think in the article it says that these college athletes do 40 reps of each exercise. Then they suggest to the reader that they start with 20 reps per exercise. Since I'm an old, fat guy I whittled it down to 10 reps. It still kicked my ###.

There were even a couple that I really physically couldn't do they way they say you should. Namely, the toe-touch and the solo Rocky.

I'm going to keep doing it though. It's only been a couple of hours and I can feel it. I'm sure I'm going to feel it more tomorrow.

I don't drink soda anymore. I drink the PZ because it tastes good and it's got zero calories. And I eat fast food because I like to enjoy life. I'm approaching 40 and I'm actually in the best shape I've been in in almost 20 years. I'm sure I could cut all fat, eat salads, workout everyday and drink water. But why? I'm happy the way I look right now, for the most part. I've got a woman. I've got a family. I'm not on the prowl and I'm enjoying life.

As long as I can take my shirt off at the beach and not be the fattest person there, I really don't care how big I am.

Anywhere from 5 to 10 miles a week. Usually hikes through hilly trails. I live near Valley Forge and they have some really nice trails.
Walk 4 mlles a day..and try to do it in one hour. Put some music on and get outside and enjoy. I despise sitting inside on a bike or running on a treadmill. Once you get used to it you will hate to miss a day.

People say this to me all the time, but I don't think I'm one of those people. I like walking. But I'm OK either outside or on my treadmill. But I wouldn't ever say that I'd miss it if I skipped a day.

The Power Aid has a lot of sugar. 1-2 a day isn't bad but I wouldn't drink it all day. Also pretty hellish on your teeth.

Hey man, I think you're doing awesome so don't take it the wrong way.

Ruining on the treadmill is stepping while the ground moves beneath you. It's better then nothing but let's not think its even remotely the same thing as walking/jogging.Find something you like to do and do that. If you don't enjoy it, you won't do it.

Personally I've moved from running 6 miles every three days to running 100 yard sprints to riding my bike to running steps/bleachers. Switching it up keeps me from getting bored.

I see what you did there.

I like to add pushups to my workout. I do 5 sets of pushups before I do my upper body workout. They take very little time and make you feel stronger. That 100 pushups website is a decent place to get an idea on how to set up your 'workout'. Probably about 5-10 minutes so they don't take any time.

Been doing this a couple of times a week for the last 5 weeks or so. Started at 10 reps and now at 22 reps per exercise. Core strength makes everything easier. You can take that to bank.

Yeah, I checked out that Scooby dude's program. I guess it could work.

It's hard to tell when you're serious, but I have a weird feeling you are here. So I'll ask, did you go buy a medicine ball? Do they sell these at the 1920's store by the gramophones section? Where does one buy a medicine ball? And how long each day does the routine take?

100% serious. Something like this. The routine takes maybe 15 mins on average. It depends on how much of a breather you take between exercises.

Congratulations on your hard work and success in losing the weight, Iron Sheik. Keep up the good work.

I've been walking a lot
Anywhere from 5 to 10 miles a week.
Wait, I thought you said you've been walking a lot?
That is a lot. For me, anyway. And to be fair, most of those miles logged are inclined miles. It's usually doing hikes on mountains or through hills.

Like I said, I don't have a lot of time to work out. My goal was to just not be the fattest guy at the beach anymore.

You want to lose weight without exercising more? Eat less.
No. I'm saying I've lost the weight. I'm looking for a way to strengthen my core more than anything.
Isometric work is good. Press against a wall with all you effort, as if you want to push it down. Go all out in your exertion, engage your core in the effort. Do that for 10 seconds while breathing. You should be exhausted after doing a few sets. Change your position a few times to engage different muscle groups. I do this against trees when taking walks..

The truly amazing thing is I'm pretty sure almost all of my weight gain was the result of too much soda and alcohol. I say that because I still eat a lot of crappy food. And I love to snack on fatty snacks. I don't eat as much as I used to, but it's not like I'm eating kale and celery. I usually eat fast food once a week. I eat sugary cereals. I chow down on chips and ice cream every night. Yet my weight has not come back from the diet.

I don't drink much anymore. And I only have a non diet soda every once in a while, usually if I'm out at a pizza place or some other restaurant for dinner with the family.

It was hard work to get the weight off, but I seem to have found my perfect weight. I'm sure if I cut out 99% of my diet, I could drop another 20 pounds, but I'm not sure why I'd want to do that. I'm happy where I am.

I don't drink much anymore.
Good move. Weed is better for those nature hikes anyway.
Quit that about 20 years ago. Don't get me wrong, when I drink, I can drink like the best of them. But 4 years ago, I was out drinking probably 3 to 4 nights a week. And not just one or two beers. Usually like 6 to 10.

Now, I may drink once a month. If my old lady and I go out for a date night, I'll have a drink or two with dinner. But I really have to have a special occasion now to tie one on.

So I went back to Houston for Thanksgiving to see the family and spent a whole week eating as much crap as I possibly could. Pretty sure the only thing I didn't eat was a wafer thin mint.

Got home and I gained 10 pounds. I was actually impressed it was only that much at the rate I was eating. I have three weeks to lose it all so I can do the same thing for Christmas. God bless the holidays!

So I couldn't lose the 10 pounds with eating 3 bowls of cereal a day and eating out twice a week. Not sure why. That said, I decided to diet again to lose the weight. But 10 pounds is nothing.

So I gave myself a week to just gorge on all kinds of crappy food to see how much weight I could pack on in a week. It was tough, but I added an extra 5 pounds in one week. I was hoping for 10, but you take what you can get.

So now I start my diet in which I will lose 15 el bees. I didn't check with my doctor, but I'm sure this is perfectly healthy.
