I've lost interest in watching sports (2 Viewers)

Baseball - sucks, takes way too long and I no longer know 99% of the league - don't even watch the playoffs any more

Basketball - will catch part of the occasional regular season game for my team (Hawks) and watched some of the playoffs;  will watch the Finals match up as that seems intriguing

Football - still in pain over the Super Bowl - will watch all Falcons regular season/playoff games and some of the prime time match ups - playoffs are a must watch

College Football - most of the big games and all of the Yellow Jackets games.  THWG

Hockey - I was trying to get in to this and we lost our team again - I've watched some of the playoffs but don't think I watched a single regular season game

Soccer - weekly United matches and usually 1-2 other big games each weekend recorded and watched as I get time.  Big FA Cup/CL match-ups.  Just started following MLS this year as Atlanta got a team and I got season tickets - really fun to go to the games, I still don't watch any non-Atlanta MLS games.
No college BB, GB?  The Jackets got a pretty good new coach in Pastner (I don't like him personally but I think he is a talented recruiter and game coach) and were watchable this past season.

Oversight on my part - I watched more CBB this past year than recent years.  Love what Pastner did with the team and excited to see if he can make us relevant.  I do watch less CBB overall than 10 years ago but the tourney is still must see TV.

I guess I did the right thing by never getting into a fourth, fifth, etc. sport and just limiting myself to three.  Although my fantasy sports interest has waned a bit in recent years, I enjoy every minute of the NFL that I can catch.  I don't watch full games of baseball much and only go to a few games a year but I certainly follow it regularly, often catching random bits of games, online highlights, and radio broadcasts in the car.

Now, my interest in college basketball is definitely down a bit in the past few seasons, and that's despite that fact that my team has won two of the last eight titles.  I have never really enjoyed the NBA much at all and the one-and-done rule (as well as the college football-driven formation of silly, unwieldy megaconferences) just inject too much money into the system and NBA-ify the proceedings for me to enjoy the sport nearly as much as I used to.  I still enjoy it, I just am not the ultrafan I once was.  However, if they'd break up some of the big conferences (or play more intraconference games, getting back to true round robins or close) and either allow kids to go straight to the pros or adopt something like the baseball system (go straight from high school or you're ineligible for the pros for effectively three seasons), then my previous level of interest would probably return promptly.

Apparently I've had the exact opposite experience as most of y'all.  Used to be a casual sports fan, watching the NFL and playoff games when I wasn't out doing much more interesting stuff, and that was about it. Now that I'm a lame middle-aged father I put the kids to bed, smoke a little and watch sports pretty much every night. Twitter makes it more fun, too.  It's like being at the bar watching the game with a bunch of comedians, except the beer is cheaper and colder and you can lie on a couch in sweatpants.

I've lost interest as I've gotten older.  I used to love watching college hoops and NBA, back when I used to play a lot.  Now that my sneakers are dusty, I couldn't care less about either.  I enjoy the tournament and the NBA finals, depending who is playing.  Other than that,

MLB sucks to high heaven.  If the Braves are contending, I regain a little interest.  College baseball sucks too.

All this talk about soccer and hockey.  I watch a few World Cup games.. I try at least.  I tried to get into hockey.  Went to a few minor league games.  Couldn't wait for it to end.  Just can't get into it.

For me:

1.  College football, easily.

2.  NFL.  Distant second to CFB.

3.  PGA Tour.  Again, age thing.  When I was 20ish, I loved the NBA because I liked to play hoops.  Now that I'm 50ish, I play golf.  So I'm interested in watching it too.

Summer Olympics fits somewhere near the top when it's on.  Winter Olympics maybe just before golf when it's on.  Except curling... i'm fascinated with curling.

NFL...all NFL games...are still the best.

Then bowling.

Then MLB.

Then maybe NBA or NHL....haven't watched a single playoff game from either so far.

I've lost all interest in the NBA and some in the NFL, but I like baseball and hockey more than ever and college football is glorious.  I'm never gonna stop loving those.  I could go sit at a minor league baseball game every day for the rest of my life and love every minute of it.
Same here. I can't watch baseball games on TV where I'm not a fan of one of the teams, but I can go to any game (major, minor, college, high school), watch from the stands and have an awesome time.

With young kids, it cut down the amount of free time for sports watching or anything that I used to enjoy. Now that kids are a little older, I finally have the time to watch sports, TV or movies and I find myself not too interested in much of it (it happened to me too! Damnit). I gravitate towards reading, gaming or surfing web.

My passion for sports isn't what it used to be either.  I think all the "hot takes" kind of got to me.  I couldn't stomach another "Brady vs Manning" debate or Packers fans whining about Ted Thompson.  So much stress for something that's supposed to be an escape.  I guess I haven't so much stopped watching sports as overanalyzing everything or watching/listening to the talk shows.

I am watching sports a little less than previous but the biggest change is the shift between sports.

Football is still #1 and pretty consistent.

MLB is the major down trend. I can't recall the last time I watched a game from first pitch to last out.

Soccer is the major trend upwards.

Slight downtrend on college basketball regular season (tourney is still must watch) and golf.

Never did watch NHL or NBA but will tune in to the finals.

We tend to enjoy things when we are younger, then over-analyze them when we get older.

Issues with major sports:

1. MLB:  162 game season, extremely boring unless you are just a baseball nut.  Although the regular season is important (limited playoff teams), the extremely large number of games means that no one game is usually important.

2. NBA:  Regular season is meaningless.  We've reached the point where nothing really matters until the finals, although to be fair it's been like that as long as I can remember.

3. NFL:  Games have many stoppages but this is clearly the most meaningful sport out there on a week to week basis.

4. NHL:  Regular season is meaningless.  Playoffs are great.

5. College basketball:  Not sure why I don't like it anymore.  I can't figure myself out on this one.

6. College football:  Not much beats a great college football game.  Biggest issue is that your best teams will have 7-9 blowouts a season.

7. Soccer:  Depends on your flavor (EPL, LaLiga, Bundesliga), but it's great.  Games are full of meaning, games are extremely intense.  Yeah some games are boring but every other sport has those in spades.  It's become my favorite (primarily EPL).

I honestly can't either.  I'm sure it was a Braves playoff game but it has to be 15-18 years ago.

Somewhat yes.

Pretty much the only sport I make sure to watch is soccer.  Manchester United or USMNT (when its not a friendly) for sure.  Others if I'm home and there is nothing better on.

Used to watch as many NFL games as I can.  Now its if I am home I may watch a Chager game.

I can't watch the Dodgers on local tv (thanks time warner) but love going to the games at Dodger stadium.

NBA is unwatchable and has been for years (still check the Boston scores periodically).

Not into the college sports scene.

I enjoy sports much less than in the past.  I do like having a baseball game on or a golf tournament - makes for some nice background noise.

I try to follow the Royals, but if I miss a game or 8 I'm not too disappointed.

I'd much rather play soccer than watch a Chiefs game on Sundays in the fall, but I do enjoy hosting people at the house.  We put up the screen against the garage and tailgate in the driveway.

The only thing I'll try to be aware of when scheduling is KU Basketball.  I do enjoy some Big XII domination.

FF killed off my interest in football (Niners fan). I barely if ever watch.

Baseball. we're not counting this as a sport, so no.

Baskteball. always found it kinda boring to watch, but will watch an occasional march madness or playoff game.

Hockey. west coaster so didn't grow up playing it or having any interest in it. still don't.

Soccer. the ####### worst.

Others... golf- no. car stuff- no. cycling- sometimes. boxing/mma- sometimes. olympics- a little. syncronized swimming- mos def.

Played hoops in HS and grew up with Magic & Showtime in LA and then transitioned into loving Jordan and the Bulls since my family is from Chicago and was always a Bears/Cubs fan.  So, watched a ton of NBA in the 80's and 90's.  Fell off in the 2000's a bit, but would watch playoffs for sure, and maybe a few games here and there during the season.  DFS re-energized me a year or so back, but it didn't really stick with me.  I will have it on "in the background" or I will use it as an excuse to go drink a few beers at local watering holes.

Fantasy football was really the impetus for me watching the NFL.  Always a Bears fan but aside from them, didn't really care.  Now I watch 24/7/365, especially being in 6 dynasty leagues.  Don't see my football love going anywhere.... although on Sundays I find myself having RedZone on and flipping through my leagues.  TNF, SNF and MNF I will watch.  SNF has been a good reason to go have a couple of beers and apps at local watering hole.

Always have loved college football.  The fact that I can now "scout" for dynasty league purposes only makes it better.  I love Saturdays.

Always have loved college basketball.  Will watch during the week, although I won't go out of my way.  March Madness may be the best thing evah.

Played soccer growing up and still like watching.  World Cup and Euro champs only.  Maybe I should dabble elsewhere.  Hmmmm...

Baseball sucks.  Even getting into fantasy leagues did nothing.  I would just check my box score the next day.  Season's too long.  Now, if the Cubbies keep making the playoffs, I'll watch that.

Hockey, meh.  Tried fantasy hockey once.  Love playoff hockey, fun to watch at the bar.

That's all I got.

I think a lot of it has to do with the way sports are packaged and sold now. It's all just a big assembly line in the money making factory now. Money ruins everything. We all know sports never really "mattered" but back in the day it used to feel like it did. Teams used to hate each other. It was good vs. evil. I remember watching those Pistons-Celtics wars with the Bad Boys who were wrestling as much as they were playing basketball. John McEnroe had it right a few years ago when he said after being asked why tennis was dying that there were no rivalries any more. Players all get along and hug before and after the match now. Guys like him and Connors hated their opponent. You see all the pre and post game love in every sport now. Nobody hates each other. Maybe free agency has something to do with it? Players sign with their team's supposed heated rival almost every offseason. Richard Sherman went on a postgame rant on the field a few years back and people acted like he was an awful person for showing his passion in that way. Bring back the hate!

I don't watch much less but I don't care nearly as much about the outcome as I did when I was younger. Unless you're a young fan who hasn't yet figured out that none of it ####### matters I don't get letting a loss eat at you for more than a few minutes.
I'll let a Jayhawk tourney loss bother me a few minutes but otherwise?  Just don't care that much.

NFL - but that's 90% magic ball

College football - mostly bama and Michigan (would care about the Jayhawks but they're just not good)

College basketball tourney is still one of the best things going.

I fell out of love with hockey when I left Michigan but the preds have been fun this year.

I watch baseball every single night. MLB Extra Innings is awesome. In addition to watching every Yankees game, I flip around the league and watch a ton of west coast baseball late nights in bed. I live and breath baseball. Always have and always will. Greatest sport in the history of man.

NBA - If the Heat are not in the post season, my season is over. I have not watched one single minute of post season basketball this year. Not a single second. I could care less if my team is not in it. Lost all interest in the rest of the league to be frank. I just don't care for it anymore.

NFL - Red Zone and the Dolphins is all I watch during the regular season. If the Sunday or Monday night game is a great match-up, I am in. Post season football is still great. The refs let them play for the most part. Regular season games are unwatchable on the networks. Just insane the amount of commercials and replay stoppages.

NHL - Post season is fun. That's about it.

NCAA Football - Absolutely love it. More than the NFL by far.

I watched less team sports this year than ever before. It  might be my adult ADD but I don't feel like putting in 2.5 hours for one event. I like skipping commercials so live games lost a lot of appeal. I still watch a bunch of MMA and some playoff NBA and hockey when L.A. teams were involved.

Really great points.

70's 80's and 90's NBA and NFL was the golden age. Rivarly, hate and passion. $$$ has destroyed the "Regular Joe" fan going to live sports. Basically if you want to take a family of 4 to an NFL or NBA game is will cost a small fortune.

Down here the only real bargains left are Panther and Marlins games. But if either team get's into the post season....forget it. 100% price increases as brokers horde all the tickets LOL. But baseball is highly affordable in South Florida. I can get a ticket to a Marlins game the day of...on stub hub infield box for peanuts ($20 bucks a ticket) the same tickets would cost $500-$1000 in Boston or NY. ****ing lunacy.

Dolphins games down here are a joke. The tickets are outrageous now. A pure rip off. And who the hell wants to sit in the heat with drunks? Football is a the best sport to watch at home on the couch.

The NBA and MLB have completely lost me. Haven't watched more than a few minutes here and there for years. The season is too long and too many teams make the playoffs. Most games are meaningless. College fb and baskets, NFL still have my full attention.
WAT?

I think this applies to me as well.  I watch a lot of soccer and e-sports, two events (whether you consider e-sports a "sport", I am considering it for these viewership purposes) with minimal stoppages in play.  No commercial breaks during gameplay.  I still watch a ton of college football, but unless it's my alma mater or Alabama, I'm really not sitting down to watch a game from start to finish unless it's a major game or the CFB playoff etc.  At any given point on a Saturday afternoon, I've got like 6 games in rotation to where I can pretty much avoid having to watch any commercials.

I enjoy having sports on the outdoor tv.  Golf, baseball, racing, etc.  I don't watch them, but just like to have them on in the background.  And my tv only gets the over air channels, unless I have the firestick on.

10 teams make the playoffs now. It used to be 4. Teams don't even sell out playoff games any more. Every baseball playoff game used to be a big deal.
MLB has the smallest number of teams make the playoffs.  Weird point to make.

I was talking about the NBA too but yes, too many teams make the playoffs in MLB now. It's all about squeezing every dollar they can out of it. The NFL is about to expand the playoffs when it's the last thing they should do. Less games=games take on greater importance=better for the sport. Why is world cup soccer great? Doesn't happen often and every game is massive because there are so few. Cut the NBA regular season and amount of teams that make the playoffs in half. It'll never happen but imagine how great it would be?

Use to watch just about all sports. Now NFL limited to a couple teams but I don't go out of my way to watch them (although I usually try to catch the first round of the NFL draft). Follow a couple teams for college football. Almost any event in Olympics.  NBA only if I am surfing channels and I run across a fight.  Pro baseball limited to world series. Soccer occasionally (Europe) and World Cup. Use to watch a lot of NHL (North Stars/Wild) but not anymore. All the seasons are too long and don't mean much with so many teams in the playoffs. Having grown up around pro-sports, its probably only a few years away from pro-sports having scripted games/outcomes. Its really just entertainment.

Yep. Pretty much stopped watching baseball. Haven't watched a world series since the Phillies won. NBA I'm down to only watching the finals. NHL not even that any more. NFL is the only thing I still watch each week but even that is waning. I didn't watch a single Thursday night game last year and maybe 2 SNF and 1 MNF. And those were Eagle games.

So yes sports have declined greatly in my life. I still follow my teams and I'm sure if they were any good, I'd be right back in there. But who has the time to invest 2-4 hours to watch a game any more.

Oh, don't get me wrong about hockey. Most years it's must watch TV. I hope Nashville wins because PK Subban seems like a cool dude.

I used to watch a fairly decent amount of sports, but as I have gone into middle age my viewing has changed in some areas:

MLB - will watch the Indians come hell, high water, whatever. My main interest and passion.

NFL - huge loser; I have hardly watched any games in the last 7-8 years. CTE, the money-whoring, and crass commercialization turned me off.

NHL - will watch the Penguins and follow them until they're eliminated. Once they are, I stop watching hockey.

CFB - will watch Penn State, whatever CBS game is on at 3:30, and the occasional game of high interest.

My interest in sports is 80% Indians and 10% each for the Pens and Nittany Lions.

Lacrosse final four is this weekend - semi final games are at 12 (Ohio St(3) / Towson) and 2:30 (Maryland  (1) /Denver (5)) on Saturday on ESPN2.  It is Ohio State's first final four, and Towson's first since '01.
Buckeyes beat Towson!

First trip to the championship game!

I can't say that I've lost any interest in watching sports.  I can however say that I picked up new interests or prioritized other interest enough to where I don't feel the need to watch as many sporting events as I used to.  I can just check scores, stats and sports news on my ipad or phone.   I find that I'm more selective in the sports that I do watch as I grow older my interests expand.  I pick and choose the sporting events that appeal to me the most and will watch those--but I won't waste my time watching random events or sports for the sake of watching them.   This same dynamic has occured to me in fantasy sports as I've really scaled back the number of leagues that I participate in.

Watching NBA or MLB regular season is almost pointless to me.  Seems like players are just pacing themselves for the grind.

Playoff hockey and March Madness are way different. Must watch for me. Will watch NFL and all playoffs, including basketball and baseball . Getting more into soccer. Watch golf and horse racing too

Yeah...and four of those teams play a one game playoff. Then it is down to 4 in each league.

The baseball post season is awesome.

Baseball.....is ****ing awesome.

I watch all Mets games unless I am not able to be home for some reason. I watch MLB Network quite a bit.

The NFL is getting worse and worse every year but I am still a big football fan.

I watch college football but rarely full games. Usually there are about eight games on TV at once, so I just flip from channel to channel and avoid commercials.

The NBA has become a hideous league due to a few "super teams". The league has had this issue in the past but never as absurd as it is now.

I have enjoyed recent World Cups but not enough to follow any leagues

I'm down to basically college football only now and the cowboys.

I never watch non cowboys NFL games

Used to watch rangers every night. Then I cut the cord and I'm too lazy to get the stream blackout lifted somehow.

sucks to not live in a city with home teams and good college teams

sounds boring

sports on every single day for me in some fashion
