Ja’Marr Chase 08/09/21 - not creating separation at practice, not getting contested balls (1 Viewer)

For sure.

It's creating more threads that are more specific and not lumping everything into one giant thread with no title or even worse, a title that is not accurate. Thanks.
I think the disconnect is how big does the news have to be to get its own thread? If it was for every little bit of camp news, I think the Board loses its utility as stories will get buried quickly. A little guidance would be helpful I think.

That's a good question. I'd say if the news about as big as what most people would call worthy of making a headline on NFL.com or ESPN or Rotoworld/NBC.

It's like anything else, you know it when you see it.

Maybe a better way would be to ask, "Is this something that would generate good discussion around this topic in the Forum?"

I think we'll feel our way along here.

Thanks.

Nothing against HSG as he is a big contributor to this forum. I just personally like going to one thread for a player so I can catchup on thoughts versus trying to figure out which one is giving the best content. I also understand I may be in the minority there.

I think that’s a good threshold and makes sense.
Under that guidance, and hopefully back on topic, this thread would have qualified. Chase is a highly touted pick, and that was a legitimate source providing a concerning data point. The things he was supposed to be good at, so far, he is not.

That's not to say he can't or won't become the WR he was drafted to be. I would expect some consideration to be paid to his age, experience, and maybe some rust.

Also possible is that Chase simply requires longer to develop into the player he was drafted to be. In the not too distant past, the "3rd year WR" premise was taken as gospel. Then some notable exceptions came along, and all of a sudden any WR who isn't Blackmon, Hilton, Tyreek Hill, etc is labelled a bust.

Or maybe it's somewhere in between - someone mentioned Jefferson. Could well prove to be a good comp.

What wasn't said in the article was how the passes he was thrown looked. I've eeen updates less than flattering about Burrow so far, so maybe that's a contributing factor?  Or maybe the OL isn't giving Burrow time for routes to develop.

Seems like many ways this discussion could have, and still can evolve.

Regarding the news, I have found it odd that the relative ADPs seem to imply Chase > Higgins >> Boyd.  I could see Boyd > Higgins >> Chase.  Now mitigating factors like Chase's relationship with Burrow and his collegiate performance might imply / justify current ADPs, but the news is more informative than it is shocking, imo.

I appreciate that. And nothing against myself, who posts a lot and is wrong about half the time, but I was just following what I took as instructions. I, too, think it's a cleaner way to have individual player topics.   :)   And I am concerned that some of the really good non-player specific discussion will get churned off of the 1st page really fast under the new guidance.

"21 y/o who hasn't played since January struggles out of the gate" isn't as grabby a story though.

That said, I am inclined to agree, though I would have expected ADP to favor Higgins -> Boyd -> Chase. But the FF community also tends to go bananas over rookie WRs, and as you mentioned the prior relationship with Burrow...it does make sense that Chase would be selected first in redraft, even if it's slightly illogical to do so.

Joe reached out to me as well. I'm also in the camp that says this will clog up the board in a way that goes against the intention. But perhaps we can make it work if we give it a try. I suggested to Joe there should be more advertising or notification to users about the starred thread functionality. I think that makes the readability of a thread a million times better and there are lots of people that don't know about it.

But maybe if we create a new breaking news thread at a given moment, we should post a link to it in the player thread? Then that is a not so subtle nudge to folks to go over there for discussion related to whatever that news is. My concern is we will still have two threads going gangbusters each time this happens. But maybe if we do this enough times with enough reps (I said it) it can become habitual.

I have no wisdom to offer whatsoever in terms of the judgement call nature of "when is it serious enough" news.

I posted this in this thread here. That is where we should talk about it.

Another Boyd truther!  Welcome to the bandwagon.

Nothing to see here unless you're invested in Chase in redraft.  Where he's being drafted, I'll have 0 shares in him.  He's still a top 2 rookie pick.

He’s looking squarely at being the #3 option on a decent offense this season. And that’s just fine for any rookie.

He will probably only get a few targets per game for the first half of the season because he’s behind a pair of WRs who are plenty talented in their own right and already have professional experience with the QB and system.

If you see any significant value drop in September and October, pounce on it.

Not worth starting a new thread or finding the cin thread but per roto -

ESPN's Ben Baby said Tyler Boyd will have "a ton of catches and a ton of yards" in 2021.

Baby said during an interview on the Fantasy Authority podcast that Boyd -- the Bengals' slot receiver -- is being overlooked in fantasy circles. Baby said he would draft Boyd "way higher" than his ninth round 12-team league ADP. "He may not be the guy who gets the explosive plays," Baby said, but he'll pile up intermediate targets in an offense that should be among the NFL's most pass heavy. Baby predicted all three starting Bengals wide receivers -- Boyd, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins -- would see over 100 targets in 2021, just as all three of the team's starting wideouts eclipsed 100 targets in 2020. Boyd should serve as a steadier source of fantasy points than the wideouts being drafted around him, including Mike Williams and Mecole Hardman. Boyd was WR16 in PPR formats last year before Joe Burrow's season-ending knee injury.

In other news Ben Baby is still assuring fantasy owners that Joe Mixon is going to return sometime during the 2020 season.
