Jags OL Richard Collier SHot (1 Viewer)

Story goes that he and Kenny Pettway (DE recently released form Jags) were at a club last night and they met two women. They drive separate cars back to women's house/ apartment. While waiting for women outside in car, assailant walks up and shoots Collier (who was in the driver's seat) several times.

My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

FF angle: Collier is a massive 6'7" 345 lb Tackle for the Jags although he is depth behind Khalif Barnes and Tony Pashos, this is still not good in any way for the Jags. He was definitely good depth for them and probably could play more than one position. I would not let it affect me from playing MJD or Fred Taylor right now, but if the Jags were to lose Pashos or Barnes, this could become a very dicey situation.

One again I want to say that this is a terrible incident and it doesn't have ot be just football players that this happenes to. Who knows what the situation was here, but you gotta be really careful when you are out at bars/clubs, seems nothing good happens in them.

Yeah, from a strictly football perspective, they were hoping he could push Barnes and potentially replace him. Branes had won the job, bu Collier was viewed as a legitimate third tackle in case of injury.

Statement from Wayne Weaver:

“We’re shocked and deeply saddened by this morning’s news about Richard Collier. We have been informed that Richard has had surgery and he’s in critical but stable condition. The entire Jaguars family is praying for Richard and his family at this time.”

Only 5 posts? Just cuz the guy isnt a big star Im surprised at the lack of replies. That being said I really hope he pulls thru but it doesnt sound too good right now.

Well, I'm no doctor but I think the fact that he's made it this far is encouraging.

I ran out of time on my news bit this morning to cover this, but I'll say here what I was going to say there. Of course our thoughts and prayers go to both he and his family. We may never know the WHY and even if we did, it probably woulnd't make a whole lot of sense anyway.

One can hope that the Jags can move on, but this could affect a lot of the player's mentality going into week 1. Some things just make football seem like the game it is.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I hate to say this as a long time Jacksonville resident but this is just another example of the violence that occurs in this city on a daily basis and law enforcement seems to be unable to stem the tide in spite of increases in funding.

I live in an older, basically quiet middle class neighborhood on the other side of the river, My next door neighbor, who had sadly gotten deeply into drugs and alcohol, was found murdered and abandoned in a vacant lot downtown last weekend. It got no media attention and chances are they will never find out what happened. I don't know if they will ever find out why Collier was shot but it is very sad and a high profile illustration of what goes on too often.

I love this place, it's casual, cost of living is reasonable, we are close to the beach, the weather is temperate, and we have an NFL team but for some reason we just can't stop the violence!

Bad things always seem to happen after midnight....these NFL players become targets....it isn't fair, but if I were an NFL player, I'd make like Cinderella and get home by midnight.

Mods, can you merge this with the other thread, no need to have mine here too when there seems to be better discussion going on here. Grazie.

RC, I am so sorry you have to endure some of that...but I gotta be honest. Jax is not a city I would want to live in...the beaches are closer than say Oklahoma but most of the folks don't live on the beach. When the SB was held there, the city came under a ton of fire from the media, very much in favor of never returning. I'm sorry if I am being insensitive but there are much better places to live than Jax...in fact I would cringe if I had to live there, and all likelihood never will. I still love Jagsfans though and think you guys are good posters.

No. But i'd hire bodyguards and drivers as long as I had a guaranteed contract.
If I were an NFL player and made a lot of money, 1st thing I would do is hire a $40,000 a year limo driver or driver period. To not have to drive anywhere and let others handle it for you...heaven.

It does seem like I recall someone saying 'nothing good happens at 2am'.Like you said, being a NFL player puts a target on your back. It's gotta be hard to be young, with money in your pocket and then sit home though.Dunno I could do it...

And most of this is different from most American urban areas how?
