Jahved Best's NFL outlook (1 Viewer)

I don't think best is all that good...I watched the entire game today and best looked like a gaping hole runner. He didn't look that impressive trying to make people miss and just looked like a straight speed guy to me. Just IMO.
Best is not just a straight ahead runner, he is shifty.

He's terrible between the tackles in the games I've watched, but fantastic to the outside. I don't see him as a guy who can be a dominant starter. He'll be a nice comp. back.

Leon, Sproles...that type of guy he could have a very nice role in that manner.

I'll take Mcnight from USC every day of the week over Jahvid.
Than you'd be making a bad decision.McKnight's body makeup is just as thin as Best's....the difference is Best is better in every overall aspect of the game than McKnight. Better speed and better vision being the biggest differences. In regards to Best, he's definitely an exciting player to watch and I like him quite a bit, but no matter how you slice it his size will be a hinderance to his ultimate status at the next level. Whether he actually can or not, no team will ever hand over the keys to him as their everydown back....just won't happen. He's had injury issues the past couple of years and his body just wasn't created to take 20+ poundings per game by NFL calibre talent.

OMG!!! You couldn't be further from the truth. There's lots of clips of Best using his great vision between the tackles for long gains.

It's always easy to say this. The fact of the matter is, is that Best runs well between the tackles because of his vision, and basically is a good runner no matter how you "size" it up. Also, he's not Leon or Darrin small. He has room to add 10 or 15 lbs with no problem, because he is 5'10".

I think Best will be scheme dependent. I think if he goes to a spread offense that runs a good amount of shotgun (like NE) that he could be a very productive player. I think he runs fine inside, when the D line is not stacked with bodies (like Kevin Faulk or Darrren Sproles). He will be a very useful player on inside handoffs out of the shotgun. I can also him as the designated 2 minute offense back, which is undervalued by many in FF.His size is a concern in pass protection; however, I saw him do an adequate job yesterday in blitz pick up where he was more of a nuisance than a blocker, but still allowed the QB time to complete the pass.

I think a hope for Warwick Dunn (in his prime) type production is a reaonable high end hope. I think he goes no later than round 2.

Edit: A lot of people in here are forgetting how good Sproles and Faulk were in college.

We are in agreement that he will be a nice complimentary back, but I wouldn't characterize him as "terrible" inside. And he runs inside quite a bit. He is not going to lower his shoulder and bounce off tackles. When he is hit, he is down. Get him in open space and he is gone (which accounts for his ridiculous yards per carry average). I can't see him dropping out of the 2nd round, he offers too much as a returner and playmaker.

I own him in a league in which we can own college players, so I'm hoping he's a star in the NFL. But I'm not sure I see it. He has fantastic speed and very good vision. He has excellent hands and has some wiggle. However, he doesn't break arm tackles that well, doesn't seem to have great balance (which I think is very underrated in a RB) and seems to prefer to out run defenders laterally than make moves on them. He IS fast and that does work in college, but I'm not sure it will work in the NFL nearly as well. People bring up Chris Johnson, but I thought Chris Johnson ran between the tackles, showed some power and some nice moves at ECU. Best seems to rely on his speed too much instead of making people miss.

Now, maybe he can make people miss with moves and shiftiness and just doesn't show it because he can beat them with speed. I don't know. But I'm concerned that his game as I see it now won't translate into the NFL as well as it works in college. Hope I'm wrong.

For those of you that saw him the for the first time, uhh, sort of short sighted to write him off already isn't it? This guy is the real deal, lightning quick, ideal RB height and weight by the combine, you'll see. Plus he has a sick 8 YPC, he'll be a top rookie draft pick next year.

From what I've seen the past 2 games, doesn't look good between the tackles. Going to continue to watch, but that's what I got so far.I'm not saying he's not a phenomenal back and not electric because he is. He'll contribute at the next level, just doesn't impress me between the tackles.

I don't think he will be very good at the next level. I don't think Best is as good as Arrington or Lynch were at Cal and those 2 haven't lit it up in the pros.

I would avoid him in all rookie drafts next year unless he goes to a GREAT situation
Huh???........Were you high or intoxicated when you posted this statement?Best is miles ahead of those guys in just about every facet. Just check out his ypc (currently and also last year) as well as the 5-TD performance (a school record) vs a Big Ten school on the road.

It is simply unbelievable how guys continue to downplay what this kid is doing on a major college level yet somehow the Chris Johnsons and Kevin Smiths of the world were so great when they played against the likes of SMU and SW Texas (who cares if they really didn't play these two, their level of competition sucked in college)......

Best will be a star in the NFL, every bit as good as Chris Johnson.....if not even better as he is easily a better receiver than him already and just as explosive a runner. And the guy who believes that Best is not explosive, you're apparently fooled by TV angles, this kid is lightning quick on the field and ultra-explosive. This kid is outrunning guys to the corner who have great angles on him, do you not understand what you are witnessing? Also, check out his highlight reel from last season if you really haven't watched him play.......8.1 ypc on 190+ carries last year is RIDICULOUS!

Just check out his ypc . This is what you said after his last week preformance but I haven't seen a post after last nights preformance

Here are his numbers against a descent at best Pac 1O team 16 rushed for 55 yards [3.4 avg.] incase you missed it

No doubt about it.Plus McKnight hasn't taken a beaten in college [due to not being a workhorse] and will come into the pros with pretty fresh legs.I would still say he is the best rb in college and my #1 overall player in dynasty drafts [pending on where he gets drafted of course]

neither one of these guys is even the best rb in PAC-10. that would be Jacquizz Rodgers.

he looks like Sproles, might be better though.

That's pretty high praise. Sproles was a monster at K-State. I definitely am looking forward to checking Rodgers out.

yea, he's built like Sproles and has the moves. might not be quite as fast, but the dude is just awesome. PAC-10 offensive player of the year as a true frosh last year while leading the PAC-10 in rushing. his brother James is a WR for Oregon State. if you havent seen the Rodgers Bros., you're missing out. they are fun to watch for sure.

He is a junior this year.....was POY as a soph.....and played some as a freshman. He had one great run and catch that saved his medocre day.

Anyone just see him get wheeled off on a stretcher? Leaped into the end zone, went really high, slammed on his back and head. Looked to be unconscious, arms went stiff. Scary as hell.

yeah, looked like when a MMA fighter gets KO'd on the ground.

Sounds serious. I sure hope it's just concussion. Carting him off with oxygen is a little different. Please update if you hear anything.

Movement in extremities, but did have concussion.

BFeldmanESPN Good news from Cal: Jahvid Best does have movement in his extremities, although he did sustain a concussion.1 minute ago from web

slmandel RT @AP_Top25: #Cal TB Jahvid Best taken to emergency room .... Preliminary evaluation shows concussion. Has movement in extremities

Yeah, that was an ugly play, but the update they just had at halftime of USC/ASU seemed to indicate he was relatively OK.

A Concussion? After he hit the ground so hard his flippin' helmet popped off? D'ya think?
