(KFFL) Elizabeth Merrill and Randy Covitz, of the Kansas City Star, report Kansas City Chiefs DE Jared Allen has requested a trade from the team due to a contract squabble. Allen formally requested the trade when a meeting between his agent and the team did not produce a contract proposal. The team, instead, plans to tender the restricted free agent March 1. Both sides are considered far apart on an extension, according to Allen's agent. "It doesn't look like my future is going to be (in Kansas City)," Allen said. "I wanted to finish my career there." "I feel shocked and hurt. Requesting a trade was probably the toughest thing I've had to do. It's nothing personal against the town of Kansas City and the fans. It's been great. (But) it doesn't look like my future is going to be there, and I have to accept that. That's why this is so hard. All the hard work I've put in, the blood, sweat and tears…I wanted to finish my career there. ! I was led to believe I was going to."

You don’t spend two days in jail for multiple DUIs, get suspended for the same violations, and receive a big contract as a reward. He doesn’t have a lot of leverage at this point.

Should read "All the hard drinking I did here.... I hate them one slice baloney samwiches you get in jail, you know, how the baloney is all dried out around the edges and all.... they shoulda been servin me steak."

Yup. KC could lock him up the next two season on one year deals (franchise tag next offseason) without risking a big signing bonus and cap hit if he does anything else stupid, can't stay healthy, or his play on the field drops. And he knows it...that's why he's hoping to force a trade through the media.

I'm a big Allen fan, and would hate to see him leave KC. I own him in several leagues. I think he should withdraw his trade request, and just play football, I have a feeling that KC will give him the longterm contract he seeks, if he just stays out of trouble off the feild.
