Jared Cook's value in PPR dynasty leagues (1 Viewer)

fwiw.... i was offered the 1.12 for cook in a 16 team league and turned it down... late 1st does seem to be his value in my leagues
I offered you 1.04 the other day with no response.
You offered the 1.04 for Cook? Is it in a league with devy players, where the top players are alrady gone? Just curious as that seems like an offer that should cause some one to rush to accept it.

Agreed 100%.

Ladies and gentlemen, what you are witnessing right now is another monumental hype train starting to accelerate. If you own Cook, ladies and gentlemen, hold on to him until the train reaches top speed in August.

I don't get the Jared Cook love. His 6 game end of year "breakout" projects to about 14th over a full 16 games. When you take into account that Greshem, graham, Daniels, Clark, and Finley will all very likely finish above those totals in 2011, that puts Cook's performance around 19th. How is that even remotely worth a 1st round pick?

Can I trade Devin Thomas for Cook yet? ;)

If your league only allows 1 TE to start or doesn't give extra PPR for TEs, he probably isn't. There are just too many other young stud-type TEs around. But, lets look at the numbers. In one of my leagues, he was the #9 TE over the last 6 weeks. His PPG during that time would put him as the #12 TE over the course of the year. (maybe it's a leap of faith to expect that to continue, but let's roll with it.) In a standard 12 team league, is the 12th startable TE worth a 1st? Maybe, I don't think it's a definite either way. Now, if your league allows you to start more than 1 TE, he would rank somewhere in the 60s among RB/TE/WR. Do more than 60 start? Most leagues they do. A startable young player is usually worth a 1st, IMO. If he produces for a year like he did the last 6 weeks, he'll score among the Zach Miller, KW2, Pettigrew, Mike Thomas, and Boldin group. Not "studs" per se, but those guys are probably worth a late 1st. It all depends on whether you think he'll score like he did the last 6 weeks of 2010, improve, or not repeat. I don't really see him being a top 5 TE, so not a difference maker, but I think he'll be solid.

I just offered Cook and Seyi Ajirotutu for the 2.01 and was shot down. Traded him for basically the 2.02 in another league.

Over hyped? yes, reason to sell? no. However, if you can get a middle 1st I would jump all over that.
Now Johnny U/Hoss/Moonlight, you know you're selling him for much, much less. You just traded Cook and the 2011 1.9 rookie pick for the 2011 1.7 rookie pick just a few short weeks ago.

ETA the actual trade:

[*]JohnnyU gave up Cook, Jared TEN TE; Year 2011 Draft Pick 1.09

[*]Fly Igglz Fly gave up Year 2011 Draft Pick 1.07

Why did you include me in that?

I think people are warming up to Cook ;) I think he carries late 1st rd pick value in rookie drafts for sure.
Looks like you are right and I was wrong on this one.
not worth a 1st until he actually does something
He did do something at the end of the year. He was much more involved the last few games and had some nice production.
:goodposting: The light turned on towards the end of the year and I think he continues his breakout this season. Buy now while his value is still relatively low.

You guys are nuts. First of all

In a standard 12 team league, is the 12th startable TE worth a 1st?

No. 2nd? No. 3rd? Probably not. The 12th best TE in a 12-team 1TE league is the worst any team should start. By definition he gives you 0 VBD. Not a liability, but not helping either.

Cook isn't worth jack squat. I have him on my dynasty team and am considering cutting him to get my roster down.

Even as a somewhat hopeful owner, Cook is nothing more than a throw in to make a trade happen. He is not a centerpiece and is nowhere near a first-round pick value.

I'm giving him this season to see, unless I trade for Clark, but if he doesn't give me decent production I won't be surprised and won't be hesitant to cut him either.

If you feel that what he did during the last few weeks last season is his ceiling, then no he is not worth a 1st rounder. If you feel that what he did is just the tip of the iceberg - and a sign of better performances to come - then yes he is worth that much. Like I said, buy now before its too late.
