Should be listed as a DL on MFL, but play the Adalius Thomas LB role for Baltimore. If he puts up 80% of the stats Adalius did last year, he'd rank as DL4 overall. If he puts up 67% of the stats Adalius did last year, he'd rank as DL10 overall.Looks like this year's version of Bryan Thomas with a much higher ceiling....and in most leagues you can still pick him up for cheap.
Those of you expecting Jarret Johnson to approach any significant percentage of Adalius Thomas' numbers are going to be disappointed. I think 60 solos and seven sacks would be his ceiling (even that is pushing it IMO) and Johnson won't have anywhere near the impact Thomas had in coverage or provide as many big plays.
Thomas fit well in this scheme because he was athletic enough to rush, cover and pursue. Johnson has a good motor but isn't fast, isn't fluid and doesn't play with much leverage. The Ravens don't blitz as much as you think and the coaches have said that the majority of those blitz calls are going to Bart Scott this year.
There'll be some value if Johnson stays listed as a DL, but that looks questionable too.
I'd be watching Antwan Barnes closely too. He more closely mirrors Adalius Thomas and could force his way into playing time if he can get NFL ready in camp.
If he wins a starting position, he is very likely to be listed as a LB on any appropriate depth chart. If he remains a flexible DE/LB backup like he's been in recent seasons, then he could remain listed as a DL. But then he won't have much value anyway.I think the only guys that are safe bets to be in that Bryan Thomas c. 2006 category are Chike Okeafor, Bert Berry and Brett Keisel.
I guess I looked at his new contract, supporting cast, and fact that its a big jump for a small school late round guy like Barnes to compete....and fell in love with him.
Meh, I guess we'll have to see what happens.
Worst case I look like Reggie Jackson on this one.
