ason Garrett had the interim tag removed and will be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, a team source said Sunday. The Cowboys interviewed receivers coach Ray Sherman to satisfy the NFL's "Rooney Rule," which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate."For him to even consider me, I'm excited about it, flattered about it," Sherman told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram before Garrett was hired. "You never know where life is going to take you sometimes. I don't look at what he is going to do with someone else. I'm flattered he is considering me for the position. I have coached for a long time. I have been around. I think what I have done as a coach has something to do with it also."Garrett is 4-3 entering Sunday's season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles. He took over for Wade Phillips, who was fired after a 1-7 start and most likely will land with the Houston Texans as their defensive coordinator.Garrett, a former NFL quarterback, joined the Cowboys in 2007 as offensive coordinator. He long was considered the coach-in-waiting in Dallas.
I agree. He earned the job.Good for him.He did a respectable job for the most part with what he had.

No, it was a pure 4-3. Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams at T and Michael McCrary and Rob Burnett at DE. They didn't start playing 3-4 until they drafted Suggs, which was post-Lewis.Would love to see a big named D-coordinator in there...maybe Marvin Lewis after he gets the axe in Cincy?Didnt Marvin Lewis run a hybrid 3/4-4/3 in Baltimore?
yep, and JJ will keep the Boys groundedand owner Jerry Jones remains fully in charge

How did he "earn the job." He ran the offense when Wade was in charge and I really didn't see any difference when Garrett took over. His curse is going to be the fact that this team is GROSSLY overrated.I agree. He earned the job.Good for him.He did a respectable job for the most part with what he had.
Why would it be an upgrade to Romo?? there is not going to be a new offence and the same person will be calling the plays? Unless I am missing something?upgrade Romo![]()
Perhaps this is due to the 3rd string QB being in the game. Also his offense is/was averaging around 30 points a game with Kitna so I think he is doing alright. If you want to be mad, be mad at the offensive line as their lack of protection has severly limited Garrets playcalling ability.Today's game showing why this is such a bad idea.
He can't call a play to take advantage of philly's aggressiveness and is afraid to throw the ball. This looks just like one of the early season Wade era games.
Jason Garrett thought process: "oh no, they're blitzing, I better just call quick outs and dump offs to the RBs so the QB doesn't make a mistake!"
Weak sauce from Garrett today.
