Jason Heyward.....Predictions? (1 Viewer)

I doubt he'll get called up before Memorial Day. There's too much money involved with delaying arbitration clocks of top prospects.

He'll end up with around 400 PAs which will limit his ceiling to something like 15 HR, 60 RBI

He probably would be a full season 20-25 home run guy if he played the full year so the I can't disagree with the short season numbers or the reasoning for the short season. He is a quality hitter with great patience so his walks should be very good for a rookie and I suspect he would be a 270+ hitter.

Assume that he plays the whole year and doesn't miss any time due to injuries, suckiness, etc.

Nobody starts the year in the majors. It makes no sense to lose a year of control.
It's possible.Per Rotoworld:

Jason Heyward-OF- Braves Feb. 10 - 9:51 am et

Chipper Jones believes outfield prospect Jason Heyward is ready to make an immediate impact in the major leagues.

"This Heyward kid looks like Fred McGriff with 20 more pounds on him out in right field," said Jones. "He is built. He is put together. And he means to do some damage when he walks to that plate." The 20-year-old went 4-for-11 during his short Triple-A debut last season and batted .323/.408/.555 in 362 at-bats overall. He might just begin the 2010 season in the major leagues.

Braves manager Bobby Cox confirmed Thursday that he's considering having Jason Heyward begin the 2010 season in the big leagues.

"He’s virtually skipping Triple-A if he makes the team," manager Bobby Cox said Thursday. "That doesn’t happen often. But in his case we just feel that he should, if he’s going to come to spring training, be given a crack at it." The 20-year-old Heyward went 4-for-11 during his debut at the Triple-A level last season and batted .323/.408/.555 in 362 at-bats overall.Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

If you look at the core quotes, Chipper is saying that Heyward is an impressive physical specimen and Cox is saying he'll have a chance to compete in spring training. Talk is cheap in February. I suspect if you asked Cox about any camp invitee, he'd say pretty much the same thing.

Everything beyond the bland quotes is pure speculation.

could he start the season in Atlanta......it is possible but unlikely

Heyward would have to have an AWESOME spring training and likely an injury for it to happen.

SO.....for redraft leagies jos value is tied to being in the starting lineup on Opening Day (unless you have huge benches and can afford a roster spot that won't play for two months)........and in keeper leagues I would assume he is already rostered

Had no problem giving Schafer the starting gig in CF last year. Granted, he was sent back down but Atlanta is one of those teams who could give him an Opening Day spot.

good point re: Schaefer although (a) he was two years older (b) he wasn't as likely to break the bank for super two/arbitration money as Heyward and © it didn't work out well at all.

IF Johnny Damon accepts the Braves offer then Heyward starts in AAA for sure

Frankly I think Damon would be better off in Cincinnati or Detroit, but Atlanta could contend in a perfect season and the Reds and Tigers won't .....at leat this year
