Javier Arenas (1 Viewer)

Six-Burgh Steelers

Arenas had a team-high eight tackles (six solo), a sack and a pass defensed in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

This is the first time all season he has topped three solo tackles, so his fantasy value is still fairly limited in most IDP leagues. He's slightly more valuable in return-yardage leagues, at least until Dexter McCluster returns.

Is this a fluke? Or is he now playing more????

If he is getting regular playing time plus his return ability....could be a nice pick-up.

Anyone know what's up?

I had a suspicion, so I'll pass along the clues as I see them.............

4th quarter ARZ 6 KC 24

1-20-ARI 24 (7:15) (Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass short middle to 89-B.Patrick to ARZ 34 for 10 yards (21-J.Arenas)

2-10-ARI 34 (6:52) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass short left to 12-A.Roberts to ARZ 40 for 6 yards (21-J.Arenas).

4-1-ARI 43 (5:44) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass incomplete short right to 12-A.Roberts (21-J.Arenas)

3-1-ARI 26 (3:30) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass short right to 89-B.Patrick to ARZ 37 for 11 yards (53-D.Williams; 21-J.Arenas)

1-10-ARI 37 (3:02) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass short left to 12-A.Roberts to ARZ 42 for 5 yards (21-J.Arenas)

3-5-ARI 42 (2:27) (Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass short middle to 12-A.Roberts to 50 for 8 yards (21-J.Arenas; 56-D.Johnson).

1-10- (2:04) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson pass short middle to 12-A.Roberts to KC 41 for 9 yards (21-J.Arenas).

2-10-KC 17 (1:24) (Shotgun) 3-D.Anderson sacked at KC 29 for -12 yards (21-J.Arenas).

edit: I'm throwin' you a bone because I know getting stomped by the pats is probably still a painful memory.

I've been starting Javi all season (1pt/20 KR yards, 1pt/10PR yards). He's the starting nickle back so when KC plays a passing team or forces a team into passing most of the game he'll be on the field. Interesting note, shortly after the draft Pioli called Arenas one of the best/quickest blitzing CB's he's ever seen. He racked up a sack on an awesome blitz where he just screamed out of nowhere and I suspect they'll be working that into the game plan more now (a defensive wrinkle they didn't show early in the season). Or maybe not, but something to think about.

Also, Brandon Flowers was injured Sunday. So his status is worth monitoring because Arenas will likely get the start if he can't go.

I haven't been starting him, but do have him rostered in a keeper league so I've been paying attention to him. He's had a few moments. And even if only the bolded part of what you said in the quoted remains true, and Flowers is okay and starts, his next four opponents are the Seahawks, Broncos, Chargers and Rams. I think we can classify all of them as 'passing teams', so Arenas' could be in line for nice little run of PT. Even moreso if Flowers misses time.

Ha Ha....That was not pretty!

Not hard to see that comin after the pats got destroyed by the Browns.

They were out for blood....

Just ask the Raiders what it's like to face a team after an ###-Whoopin!

yeah, I had figured the raiders were dead men walking going into that game.

I know people would say that's true every week, but to be fair about it they've been just good enough lately to make a discussion out of it.

as for classifying teams as 'passing teams', all that matters is how often they roll out 3+ wr's, and I have no idea how often those aforementioned teams do that.

sea - earlier in the year, when they had branch and mike, they probably ran 3+ wide around 40% of the time.

broncos - I'd imagine denver is the most spread oriented team of the 4, based on mcdaniels history, but they already played denver and he had 1 tackle and 0 pd with little to work with in the second half of a blowout.

chargers - against sd he also had 1 tackle, but added 2 pd in a close one in the rain--- although, I don't know if sd has 3 wr's on it's roster right now.

rams - this might be a good one if we speculate that he draws amendola.

I don't know who starts this week, but here's the rotoworld blurb I read about flowers:

Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury.

The Chiefs are sporting a three-touchdown lead with five minutes left, so Flowers' day is likely done. Safety Ricky Price has come on to replace him.

Seems like the Denver matchup will be a good one for Javier Arenas. Brandon Flowers has been ruled out today. What do you think about starting Arenas today? He will be the other CB next to Brandon Carr, right?

Flowers is ACTIVE.

I read that Flowers is active. Is Arenas still worth starting? Will he lose some returns to McCluster who is also back?
