What is Walker's deal? Is there something wrong with him (other than the fact that he is Javon Walker)?

I just had my draft three nights ago and he was not even taken. Does anyone have some inside scoop that I may not have heard? He looked decent enough in the Arizona/Oakland preseason game the other night...

That is what I was thinking. I did not even realize he was not drafted until I was watching the replay of the game last night. I looked at my draft sheet wondering who got him and he is not penciled in anywhere..

javon walker is on my waiver wire, i for one see him as the 31wr on oakland and am getting ready tpick himup hell be behind moss cjohnson bowe and royal so im taking the chance #1 wr's are hard to come by

Javon Walker is a good example of the folly of "group think" in FF now that everyone gets their info from sites like this one. Although Walker had a ton of red flags even a few weeks ago, by all accounts he is practicing hard and has turned the corner. He is the #1 WR on a team with an excellent run game and a not-great defense. He looks healthy. He has finished in the top 10 fantasy WRs twice (including a #2 finish) and was on pace for a third top 10 finish last year prior to his injury. At 29, he is right in his prime as a WR. If healthy, Walker is pretty much a lock for top 25 and his upside is considerably higher.

However, when people started paying attention to rankings a few weeks ago, FBG's and others didn't have him in the top 50 WRs. That certainly shouldn't be the case now. However, sites are slow to adjust to the reality on the ground as circumstances change. Walker's outlook has changed dramatically in the past week and an half. I'd much rather have him than guys like Berrian that are fighting lingering injuries and don't have his track record of production.

I got him in the 15th round last night, based on who was around at that time, it seems like he has the best chance for 1,000 and 6 of anyone else. Thought about Royal or Rice, but felt Javon could put a good season together provided he stays healthy.

Call me crazy but I generally like WR's that don't need to be talked out of giving back money and retiring. He was still struggling as early last Thursday.
"Javon hasn’t had a very good week. ” Kiffin said.
Walker LinkWalker certainly had a good pre-season game but where are all these accounts that Walker has turned the Corner? FBG latest WR redraft rankings (Only including list from 8/25 and up) has him at 42. Maybe they are slow to adjust because one game is not all that convincing. I think that is more likely then they just fail to see the "obvious". I think his ranking right now is fair and I would take Berrian over him easily right now.

IMO the worry with Walker himself is more in the mental/psychological department than the physical/on-the-field opportunity departments.

I think he hasn't gotten over the horrible experience of 2 New Years ago (when Darrent Williams was shot to death in the same limo as Walker up in Denver - he bled out on Walker's lap and died in Walker's arms). The wild behavior in Vegas this past offseason (getting silly drunk, spraying the crowd with Cristal, getting in a stranger's car and then getting a beat down/robbery) and other indicators worry me that he'll have more off-field problems. He's emotionally unstable and prone to strange judgement calls (the talk of retiring and walking away from $55 million, for example).

Also, the fact that Jamarcus Russell is still a very raw youngster with just a few NFL starts under his belt means that Walker is in for ups and downs as the near-rookie Russell continues the NFL learning curve. Some great weeks, probably, if Walker stays on the field - but also some near-nil weeks from Walker when coverage is tight and Russell throws the ball to the DBs instead of Walker. There isn't a solid #2 at WR in Oakland (Curry if he can stay healthy, but that's already been an issue during preseason) - Walker could see a lot of extra attention from opposing DBs.

Sure, these are some of the reasons he's not being taken in the top 25, but to have him ranked #46 (like you do) is crazy. You'd rather pass on Walker for unproven guys in poor situations where they aren't the first (or even second or third) receiving options on their team? You (and other FBG's) have guys like Deshaun Jackson, Drew Bennett, Derek Hagan, and David Patten ranked ahead of Walker. With what he's shown in the past and is showing in the past week, that seems like a real stretch, at least from where I'm sitting.

I cant understand that Patten or Bennett or even Hagan are ranked above him ,those are between 300 - 500 rec yards and 2 TD .

I would take a chance on Walker before those 3 for sure . I would take Deshaun Jackson ahead but none of the 3 others .

Just traded Josh Morgan for Walker ( Dynasty ) i am taking a chance that Walker could still put in a 1200yds 9TD season.

As a Walker owner in several leagues I got to admitt we are stuck and just have to hope he turns it around! I offered him for a second round rookie pick to an entire league and got rejected by everyone. I was offered him for a second rookie pick of mine in another league and rejected it myself. I offered him for a 3rd round rookie pick and got rejected again! I actually dumped him in one league where I was stocked with WR'S and needed the roster spot for a back up qb or te!

It's what it is. I will not draft him! I have him too many teams as it is! He showed me signs of snapping out of his drought last game finally. Could be a good value in late round if you can afford the roster spot! With three fine RB'S in Oakland I don;t think anyone is a favorable draft pick in the Oakland passing game this year.

he didn't practice on Thursday, any idea why?
From Rotoworld:Javon Walker-WR- Raiders Sep. 5 - 12:28 pm et The Raiders expect Javon Walker (hamstring) to return to practice Friday. We'll have an update on his participation later today. Walker was held out of Thursday's workout, but it sounds like his absence was precautionary.Source: Sacramento Bee
