Jaworski is an idiot (1 Viewer)

Jaws is an accomplished QB, and does know a lot more than I even will, but my eyes don't lie. For instance, he says that he loves Kyle Orton because he can throw the ball with anticipation. He then shows a play where Orton throws a TD to Rashied Davis against SF, and says that he threw it with anticipation. He clearly threw the ball after the Safety bit on a move, meaning that there is no anticipation. I have it on my Tivo, and in slow motion, it is even clearer to me that Jaws is making stuff up again. I hate when someone tries to force a good principle on us sideline spectators by using bad illustrations.

Jaws, if you want to see some anticipation by a QB, look to Colt Brennan's highlights at the University of Hawaii. He was in the motion of throwing the ball consistently before the move was made, which made it impossible to defend some of his passes, even in tight area in the middle of the field. BUT Jaws hates Brennan.

Perhaps what you think Orton was anticipating, and what Jaws thought Orton was anticipating are two different things.

Now judging Jaws so harshly on such a singular analysis is not to bright either. But then again, you are obviously blinded by your man-crush on Colt Brennan so much, I don't think you could see any good, in anything, anyone has to say about anyone not named Brennan.

(Why is it that regardless of the number of cases where College stars fail to make it in the NFL, there are still people who want to over rate the kiddie-stuff they did against a field full of future pencil-pushers.)

I don't have it recorded like you, but I don't recall him saying Orton was a good QB, just that he has played well in the preseason (or maybe just that specific play) and he was implying that hopes/thinks that he can carry it forward.

Also, I think he was talking about how Orton decided to throw the ball while Davis was throttling down and before the safety bit, not that he started his arm motion, just that he hopped on his feet and was anticipating. Debatable, but even Orton is a pro QB and can see stuff developing.

Again, I'm just going on memory, no tivo. So you may be right, you have the real quotes.

Jaws is one of my fav guys in the booth.

I remember last yr there was a game he and **** Vermiel did, it was great. Would much prefer to listen to guys like that than Kornheiser.

I know Jaws is a god and criticizing him is like criticizing Jesus  but he says a lot of dumb things in the booth. He always tries staying positive even when it means he lies about players. He's much better on shows where he studies film.

I am not the biggest Orton fan, but I agree with his assessment of Brennan. He simply does not have an NFL arm. He was a good college QB.

\. He always tries staying positive even when it means he lies about players.
Seems like this is the nature of the beast with the retired players who work in the media. Simms is one of the worst at this, he has become such an asskisser praising guys who don't deserve it.While annoying, partly why I enjoy guys like Shannon Sharpe, who are not the norm, and will speaking negatively about a player if warranted.

Agree. His MNF performance was very disappointing.

I dont know , I kinda like Kornheiser..he's not nearly as useless in the booth as Joey T and Dennis Miller were.He asks legit questions from an avg-joe/armchair QB perspective..I think he does a good job, but I can see how

others dislike him.

Jaws is great, but only in the studio on NFL matchup, not so great in the booth at NFL games..what we need is Johnnie Miller

(NBC PGA announcer) calling an NFL game or adding color commentary to an NFL game..now THAT guy dices no words at all, he calls it as he sees it.. :D

he doesn't BS anyone..frankly, I'm tired of these announcers glossing over pathetic situations, like Orten's , for instance..Orten sucks. can we stop propping him up with verbs and adjectives and terms like 'throws with anticipation'...

just once I'd like to hear a broadcaster say" this guy sucks, I mean, what was Chicago thinking over the past 3-4 seasons, NOT going after a QB in the draft but rather choosing to stay with Orten, Grossman, et al? He's much better than Grossman but thats not saying much".

Orten and the Bears will finish in the bottom 1/3rd of the NFL this season in nearly every offensive category, they won't win more than 4-5 games..they will be one of the worst teams in the NFL in 2008..but if you listen to Jaws,

he'll tell you that Orten throws with anticipation ( whatever that means)..

There is a reason Brennan fell so far, he's simply not going to be very good in the NFL.

Not everyone can be John Madden........

I think Jaws can be critical when he needs to. It's early in the season, everyone' getting a bit of a free pass so to speak, you hear the feel good stories but we'll start getting the meat and potatoes coming up.

If you don't like Jaws, what guys do you actually like to listen to then? Jaws isn't my favorite, but I think he's solid.

My favorite is John Madden and Al Michaels, followed by Troy Aikman and then probably Phil Simms.

I don't recall discussions in the forum on any announcer that the consensus was positive. Frankly, there are so many self-pronounced experts that nobody does a good job announcing games. There are several that I like and Jaws is one. For all of the critics out there, have y'all tried doing commentary or are you just arm-chair QBing the announcers? By the way, you can always turn down the volume and just watch the game.

sorry for the Sunday am rant, but I prefer to be more positive on the kickoff weekend. :football:

I don't mind Jaws, but have always thought people put too much stock in him "breaking down the tape" for a half-hour TV show. He looked at maybe 5-10 plays and talked about the one play for a long time. People on here kept talking about offensive coordinator, etc. for him.

I think he does a good job and is ok to listen to, but don't view him as a genius or anything.

Absolutely can't stand Jaws. The guy is a big-mouth pay-attention-to-me kinda guy and a lot of the stuff he says is just bogus imo.In the booth: Give me John and Al or Troy and Joe any day of the week, but esp on Thurs, Sun, or Mon.

Pre-game: I thought the biggest crime of the century was bumping Steve Young in favour of Jaws. I actually liked Jaws as the change of pace guy that came on with the every-so-often analysis when Steve Young was an anchorman.

Jaws is the man. Edge NFL Matchup remains one of the best football shows on television. I too prefer him in the studio but his presence in the booth hardly detracts from my enjoyment of the game. He does work better with Vermeil than he does Kornheiser. If I'm going to start crying about color analysts, he'd still be pretty damn far down the list.

Big deal, he's not high on Brennan. Questionable arm, character & enjoyed success in a gimicky offense against a bunch of sub-par comp. He may wind up having a successful NFL career; but the odds are certainly against him & to knock Jaws for stating that fact is silly.

Yeah geniuses are guys like Norman Einstein… -- Signed - Joe Theisman.

He's meh in the booth but when he's in the studio breaking down film he's the best

I like Jaws, I like Madden, I have started to be able to listen to Theisman. All are very knowledgable but sometimes we have to suffer through their personalities. Also doing play by play and being live isn't so easy. You're bound to say dumb stuff. I am so glad that people don't record me for 3 hours live every Sunday because I would come off as the biggest donkey in the world. To me these guys are all part of the experience. When they show old clips and I hear the old timers queing up the game I get all nostalgic.

Don't get me wrong I bad mouth with the best of them when they say something goofy or something I don't agree with but it is what it is.

Madden used to be ok, now he's just old and senile. His stuttering makes me shiver.

 Only because their isn't an "Excellent post" icon.

Ignore Jaw's analysis at your own peril. Because of his breakdown of Leinart, Young and Cutler I felt very comfortable trading down and scooping up Cutler whom he had a man crush on. It's cool that he is down on Brennan, I appreciate his call. I'm still taking a flier because the price is soooo low. I still love me some Jaws

Well, no one is going to be right all of the time, but I always enjoy Jaworski's analysis, even if he is prone to hyperbole at times.

No Jaws on Sunday Countdown today  I will say though that in the Monday night preview clip Jaws was much more low-key and I could warm up nicely to a low-key Jaws. Keep the analysis lose the egomaniacism
