Jay Ajayi to Eagles (1 Viewer)

If Caplan hadn't sent out his Tweet earlier today I'd be more concerned about this from an Ajayi perspective. But Caplan is really dialed into the Eagles. I think it's a near mortal lock the info he got came from the coaching staff.

ETA - Blount starting this week with Ajayi having a minor role and then coming out in Week 11 as the starter after the bye does make a ton of sense as I said earlier.
Exactly this.

I could see a 15/5 Blount/Ajayi split this week, then the bye, then something closer to 18/8 for Ajayi going forward.

Bolded could happen. Eagles are averaging 25 RB carries per game right now. So that split would fit, but that's assuming nobody else is involved which seems unlikely given Pederson's fondness for rotating his RBs. I don't think the Eagles significantly change their approach in terms of pass-run splits and in my opinion they'd be foolish to do that. Wentz is playing at an MVP level. It's his team and should remain his team. I wouldn't be surprised if Ajayi settled in at around 15-18 carries per game on average. The regular 20+ games he was getting in Miami may be a thing of the past.

I think we are going to rush the ball a bit more going forward.  Carson taking a lot of hits, our Oline took a big hit, and teams are starting to respect our deep ball more and giving us more run lanes.  I also see Ajayi being involved in the screen game which we haven't had much of lately with Darren out.

I think 18/8 ish with a few clement/smallwood runs sprinkled in will be around what they'll average for the rest of the season.  But yes 15-18 seems logical for him as well, with about 5 targets added on top of that.

If Ajayi averages 5 targets per game the rest of the season drinks are on me. That would be a massive change to his fantasy outlook.

So you traded for Ajayi, and are worried about Blount? No need to.

I remember people were worried about Blount when Bell came back from his injury. How did that end for Bell and where is Blount now? He is on a team that just traded for a stud RB, dont think that bodes well for him.

I wouldn't focus too much on Roseman's comment about Blount remaining the starter. I heard the whole interview, and Howie seemed to quickly back away from that starter comment once he said it - that it's basically a coaching decision.

My sense is that he doesn't want to upset a tight locker room by already demoting an incumbent for a newbie who hasn't even booked his flight to Philly yet. After the bye, I'm sure all bets are off though.

As a DieHard Eagles fan, I agree with this. I don't think they're going to shove blount to the bench and just forget about him. He has played well and he certainly has a role with this team. But Philly went after Ajayi for a reason. They needed a stud running back. An every down back. Blount has a particular skill-set but is very limited in what he can do.  Phillies play calling tended to be a little predictable based on who was in the backfield. If it was Sproles (pre injury) or Smallwood, there was a good chance it was going to be a pass. And if it was Blount, there was a good chance it was going to be a run. Ajayi changes that. This will make the offense even more unpredictable and should benefit Wentz.

Adam Caplan was on Sirius this morning and he said his expectation once Ajayi becomes the starter is he'll get 12-15 touches per game ("sometimes more") on average. That's obviously a huge drop from the volume he was getting in Miami. However, on the plus side he said the Eagles coaches want to work him into the screen game since they've lacked that at RB since Sproles got hurt.

So Ajayi could be looking at a huge reduction in carries but a more substantial role in the passing game. Combine that with increased TD potential and I'd say this still represents an upgrade for Ajayi overall. Losing 5-10 or so carries per game can be easily offset with 3-4 receptions per game assuming that's what Ajayi gets and assuming he does anything with them.

So much for his role in the passing game not changing much ;)

I've said before it was my hope that it would. An increased role in the passing game would be huge for his fantasy value. I'll happily take 12 carries and 3-4 receptions over 20 carries and 0-1 receptions per game. One of my biggest points about Ajayi was all his volume was meaningless if he wasn't doing anything with it (which happened frequently) because he wasn't getting enough receptions to compensate. That looks like it could change in Philly and it would be a significant development. I don't think he'll get enough volume to reach the RB1 heights so many thought he could reach but with more receptions and increased TD potential he could settle in as a rock-solid RB2. I'll happily take that.

Blount is what he is, I have no concern they will take Ajayi off the field when they know he can handle the load to keep a lesser RB on it.

Blount is not as good as a player as Ajayi, but they are going to play Blount just because he did well? Good, thank you Blount. This is a business, they will play the better RB and that will be Ajayi.

They do have the luxury of not having to force Ajayi in, but when he gets going, I'll drop Blount. I as an owner watch him play every week, he is farthest from anything special a big body plodder who is a function of the offense around him. Just my thoughts. Ajayi will be a playoff savior for some teams who didnt expect it. When you see Blounts stat lines, you see a lot of 14/40/0 type games.
