So he's coming off his bye this week, and should have his full arsenal back at his disposal. On top of that, the defense looks to be even WORSE, which will probably result in even more pass attempts.

After his first two games, I thought this guy may be the SOD; but he's disappointed ever since. I've been strongly considering seeking an upgrade at QB as the current owner of Brees in my league may be looking to deal. I'm honestly surprised Cutler has not put up better stats considering he has a true #1, what looked to be a break out #2, a good TE, and (when healthy) a good #3 in Stokely. His upcoming schedule looks good:

MIA

CLE

ATL

OAK

However if not for his HUGE game against SD, his numbers (IMO) would be pretty 'meh' for who is supposed to be a TOP QB. Any thoughts? Has it just been bad luck / not being on the same page / injuries on Denver to his supporting cast that have hurt him?

 
Turnovers have been KILLING the DEN offense.

That, and the defense cannot get off the field, providing opposing offenses long paniful scoring drives. Keeping Cutty on the bench, watching and waiting.

And yes, he was looking like the SOD (based on ADP of around 5-7th round), but he's still out performing that. Think about the guy who burned a 3rd rounder on Big Ben...

Should be fine and the TDs will improve. And that schedule coming up does look decent.

 
My biggest issue with Cutler right now is the pathetic Denver defense. The offense never gets a chance to get on the field because the defense refuses to get off of it. Now Boss and Champ Bailey are gone. If the offense ever has a series where they go 3 and out, you're rest assured that's another 6-7 minutes on the bench. That leads to Cutler forcing throws and never finding a rhythm. Schaub has been getting the start on my team for the past 3 weeks or so. Haven't figured out what I'm going to do this week. Miami looks like an enticing matchup but Ronnie Brown/Ricky are going to be running all day long.

 
DEN DEF is going to kill Cutler's value Sunday. Champ out for a few weeks doesn't help. MIA might have the ball for 3/4 of the game.

1) They face only one or two decent defenses for the rest of the year.

2) He's lost some of his receivers for parts of the season and last game he jammed a finger on the first play of the game, and he's still on pace for 4,000 yds and almost 30 TD's.

3) He's currently the #4 QB in total fantasy points scored in my league and #5 in PPG.

Seriously, what more do you want from the guy? Unless you overpaid, he's still been one heck of a steal this year.

Cutler's first 3 games of the season he had 8 TDs and 2 picks throwing for 300+ twice and 250+ once. Last three he threw 227, 192, 168 for 4 TDs and 3 picks. Is Cutler outperforming his draft position? Absolutely. However, the defense is throwing a serious monkey wrench in his numbers by not being able to get off the field. I think those that own Cutler want to reap the benefits of what he would do with a half decent defense to help him out.

He's also thrown at least 1 TD every game and only had one bad game (week 7 when he got hurt on the first play).One bad game in seven is better than any of us can expect. Add in his phenomenal three game run to start the season and he has been great. Especially for where he was being drafted.

I don't disagree, he has outperformed his draft position. You could plug Cutler in and expect 19 pts a game in a 6pt per passing TD league no problem. However, his potential is way more as demonstrated by his first few games. He is trending downward for a reason.
 
I suspect we'll see more now that he has his receivers healthy again. He was down to Marshall and the #5+ guys for awhile.

 
As a life long Raiders fan, I obviously have no love for the Broncos. However, I do respect Shanahan and think he is an excellent coach. Denver's defense has been nothing short of atrocious and I believe Skeletor spent the majority of the bye week working on the defense. I don't think the Denver defense comes out and becomes a top 5 defense or anything, but I think the play on that side of the ball is going to improve. I also think the bye week should've helped the team work on all those freaking turnovers on offense!!!

The bye week also lets Cutler's jammed finger heal. Getting Royal and Schefler back certainly are going to help Cutler's numbers as defenses are going to have major problems scheming against so many weapons.

I think Cutler comes back with a vengence and that offense more closely resembles the first few weeks than the last.

you need players to make a defense 'go', and Denver simply lacks quality defensive players, and have lacked them for quite some time now..we're talking years..

I have a feeling Brandon Marshall is about to have one of those games that makes you forget to drink your beer. Something to the tune of 10 for 160 + 2TDs, and at least 3 jaw-dropping plays. Even in his prime, Will Allen would never have been able to contain Marshall.

Obviously, this should help Cutler's cause.

 
With Boss & Champ out, hopefully the Bronco's will give up 40 + points per game through the air and Cutler will get pass happy to try and keep up.

 
six weeks ago jay cutler was a no-brainer start for me. i wasn't even mad when i started him over favre's 6-TD game.

now, i'm mulling sitting him for orton vs. the lions. that's insane, but i'm thinking about it.

 
Well...Cutler is a must start for me this week. Shanahan's record following the bye week is impeccable. With Torain finally playing and possibly more of his other weapons back Cutler should put up about 25+ fantasy points this week.

 
I traded Cutler and Marshall this week. Threw in LenDale and got back Favre, Andre Johnson and Marshawn. I still get to root for them in the subscribers contest though.

You can tell not having Stokely, Scheffler and Royal all together definitely hurt Cutler and Marshall's production. Stokely and Scheff are huge for the middle of the field short to mediate passing game. Stokely has been Cutlers go to go on 3rd down this year and now that Cutler has most of his weapons back and a pretty cake schedule from here on out I think he'll put up some huge numbers. Throw in that Denver's D can't stop anybody will put Jay in a lot of Shootouts. It was a little rough patch but now the situation is too ideal not to expect Cutler to really break out like he did the first few weeks of the season. He should be back up to the 250+ 2tds+ this week against Miami.
 
I hope all you Cutler owners got out before this week. He's worthless from here on out. He looks more frustrated and inept each week. He needs to be benched for a game and get his head in order.

 
No one stares down their WR's like this idiot. If he didn't have a cannon arm he wouldn't even be starting. Will the coaching staff wake up and show him some film of himself? Everyone knows where the ball is going.

 
Hillis is killing us ("us" being Cutler owners) inside the red zone.

Before he came along, none of the running backs were a major threat to run it in from outside the 5.

This is the first game where he just looked lost. In other games, he has looked pretty bad at times, and has had problems all season long with trying to force the ball into tight places and staring down his primary target. But we have still seen flashes of brilliance in those other games too. Not today. He looked awful.That said, for fantasy purposes, I still consider him a top 5 option going forward in both redraft and dynasty. In spite of his struggles in terms of real NFL production, he has failed to score more than 15 points just twice this season in my league's scoring system. He's still one of the more consistent options available and has the potential to explode any given week.Those who got out early were probably sad to have missed out on his 450 yard 3 TD performance against Cleveland in week 10.

I think Cutler will be just fine. Oakland has a very good pass D. They have improved lately and are performing like they did last year. Cutler didn't put up big numbers last week either, but he was relatively efficient. He still has an easy schedule down the stretch, good weapons on O, and a poor D so he will need to air it out. I think he will be strong down the stretch. Having a bad game against Oakland's D is not the end of the world.

 
I just picked up Shaun Hill off the wire, SF has a couple of nice matchups and I will be considering Hill over Cutler in those if the matchup is right.

 
I've been eyeing up Shaun Hill for his Week 16 start against the Rams...after Cutler's stinker today, I may have to pull the trigger after all

I know my championship game isn't week 10 :pickle: I actually played the guy I traded Cutler/Marshall week 10 and by the end of the game I was still thinking I did the right thing. The Broncos offense is too 1 dimensional for Cutler to succeed right now.... the big play isn't going to be there without the play action.

Statistically Oakland has a very middle of road pass D and Cutler was terrible at home today vs them. I also wouldn't call it an "easy" schedule down the stretch either. The two big weeks, 15 and 16, he has CAR on the road (a top 5 D against the Pass) and Buffalo at home. Another team statisically better than OAK. Luckily for some of us Cutler owners we get a few more weeks to see something before the meaningful games kick in. That said, I would have a backup plan in place.

I swear to God I never thought I'd see the day where I was regretting playing Cutler over Pennington, and considering benching Cutler for the same the next week. :thumbup:

I think if you have one guy take away 1/2 the field like OAK does, you can't do a whole lot passing. Noone has.

Anyone else see anything? Marshall and Royal able to get separation? Is Hillis any kind of a threat running?

Thoughts on the DEN passing game vs : KC, @CAR, BUF?

Well, at least in my leagues, scoring points sometimes helps my team to win games. Yeah, I know, we have very strange settings.
 
for this specific game, i think more blame would fall on the coaching staff calling the plays. they were throwing bombs on first down without first establishing the line of scrimmage. they were constantly 2nd and 10, 3rd and 10. then they would occasionally give up and call a run play on 3rd and 10 or 3rd and 15.

the passes cutler was throwing were the 15 to 25 yard variety, and they were consistently off target, or thrown into tight coverage and easily batted away. the short to intermediate passes seemed to connect more often, but they just kept tossing the long passes all damn day. they never adjusted and took what the raiders were giving them.

something was just 'off' with the denver playcalling. on the last denver possession, they called a run play with 3rd and 15 and hillis gets a few yards. cutler starts jogging off the field like he's done for the day, and shannahan orders him back out to go for it on 4th. right after they call a run play on 3rd and 15. i thought the mile high crowd was going to come down and strangle shannahan.

I didn't get to see the game on TV, but watched GameCenter throughout and the throws on 1st and 10 every single time seemed a little odd.Thanks for the description of what actually happened mate - much better than some of the garbage people have been posting in this thread so far. :thumbup:
 
I'm very disappointed. I traded an injured Romo and Lynch for Cutler and Forte a few weeks back and I'm not looking good for the playoffs. Forte has been nice, but I sure wish I had Romo now.

It looks like Denver has no game plan AT ALL. The play calling stinks and Cutler seem to force every pass. He seem to just REFUSE to take what the D gives him.

Farve is in my lineup from here on out.

i have the same dilemma. today it cost me 11 points; hopefully, not a win. favre really hadn't outplayed him until the last two weeks. i was looking ahead to the jets-broncos game trying to figure out which one to start in that game.

i had been starting cutler without even thinking about it, but now i'm going to have to at least start looking at matchups.
