Jays trying to put an offer in for Cain/Lincecum (1 Viewer)

• The Giants and Blue Jays have a deal on the table that would send outfielder Alex Rios to San Francisco for pitcher Tim Lincecum. But the Blue Jays appear to be more motivated to make that trade than the Giants. JP is an absolute idiot, that's why he would do it... even though I would love to have Lincecum up here playing in the Dome.
The Jays would reportedly prefer Matt Cain in an Alex Rios deal, while the Giants would be more likely to part with Tim Lincecum, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
We don't think the Giants should surrender either in a straight-up deal. Rios is plenty good, but he still hasn't proven he's a star and he's about to start getting expensive. He's the kind of player the Giants have tended to overrate, as he has neither tremendous power nor a strong walk rate. On the plus side, he is a great defensive corner outfielder and he still has some room for improvement. The Giants, though, should insist on getting Shaun Marcum or Casey Janssen along with him if they're going to trade Cain or Lincecum.

They are also hot after Erik Bedard and are apparently one of the finalists along with the Mets and Mariners according to Rotoworld.
• The Jays are kicking the tires on Erik Bedard, and they could include A.J. Burnett in a package for the Orioles' ace. Bedard is Canadian, and Burnett, who could opt out of his contract next winter, has family ties to the Baltimore area -- something that is important to O's owner Peter Angelos.

This Giants fan thinks Rios for Lincecum is a win for the Jays. I don't want to trade him at all, and certainly not for one player who's only 3 years from free agency.

Radio stations up here tonite are reporting the Jays probably will have LoDuca signed by the morning and that a Rios for Lincecum (straight up) deal is on the table and they are waiting to hear back from the Giants.
Apparently the Giants GM has delayed his press briefing with the media tonite, so who knows how close this is to being done?
I don't want to give up Rios... but man Halladay, Burnett, Marcum, Lincecum, McGowan... that is one hell of a rotation.

Dont get me wrong, Lincecum is the better player but Rios is a star in the making. Jays would be losing most of their offense. Just dont see why the Jays would do that. And not sure why the Giants would do it without also getting a pitcher back. Trade just doesnt make sense from both sides IMO.

Alex Rios right now is probably the Jays best player, I love him and don't want to see him go.However a dominant starting pitching > power hitting corner outfielder.The Jays have Adam Lind knocking on the door for some playing time and he is a great pure hitter, and by the beginning of the '09 season Travis Snyder is going to be ready for playing time with the big club. They are overloaded right now in the OF... I wish they could get the Giants to take on Vernon Wells and his salary, then re-up with Rios and put him in CF. But, it won't happen.

I think Lincecum has a decent chance to be a one of the 5 best pictchers in baseball for the next 13 years. I just don't see how you can trade a guy like that for a very good, but not great player. I'd want Pujols or Reyes or a talent like that for Lincecum. Don't get me wrong, I like Rios, but no one thinks he's going to be a top-10 position player for the next 6 years, do they?
