From ESPN:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jeff Fisher will be with the Tennessee Titans for four additional years, according to a report in Monday's Tennessean.

Citing unidentified sources, the newspaper reported that Fisher and the Titans have agreed to an extension through 2011 and would pay him between $5.5 million to $6 million per season.

A team official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the formal announcement had been planned for Monday afternoon, confirmed to The Associated Press the agreement will add four years to Fisher's contract.

Fisher is being paid $5.4 million this season. The team exercised a one-year option to keep him for the 2007 campaign.

Fisher is 111-98 in 13 seasons with the Titans. He is the longest-tenured coach in the NFL, having coached his 200th regular-season game on Sunday in a 22-20 loss to Indianapolis.

The Tennessean said that Fisher, Titans owner Bud Adams and other team officials could not be reached for comment.

Agreed, I like Fisher. He's got the right idea of how to win and doesn't always need the best talent. Give him some talent which he's now starting to gather, he's dangerous.

I don't think Fisher is really in that true "elite" tier of coaches, but he's most certainly in the tier right behind it, and if they tried to replace him, odds are far better that the Titans would do significantly worse than marginally better (unless they could somehow nab Cowher). As a result, I think this is a great move for Tennessee.

Damn, he would have been my top choice for the Giants job, even ahead of Cowher. No coaches gets more out of nothing than Fish.

Wait a minute, Cowher's in your elite tier and Fisher isn't?You may need to rethink your tiers. The way Fisher has managed the Titans the last few years with what he's had has been top notch. Top notch, I say.

the coach of the Giants for 2008 and beyond, is sitting on the set over at Espn tonight: Bill Parcells..the Giants will likely have a top 5 pick and that might be enought to lure him out of retirement. I don;'t think for a minute, that he's retired. He smartly calculated his departure from Dallas, knowing full well that Coughline is a lame-duck coach in 2007... if there is no bad blood remaining between the two sides, Parcells would be a PERFECT fit. he's the type of coach the Giants need right now. Cowher will not be on their short list, the Mara's are best friends with the Steelers first family, the Rooney's..I don't think they hire a Super Bowl winning Ex-head coach who retired/stepped from Pitt..the Steelers might still be bitter about Cowher's retirement..

Winning%Cowher- 62.3

Fisher- 53.0

Playoff Winning%

Cowher- 57.1%

Fisher- 55.6%

Playoff Appearance Rate

Cowher- 66.7%

Fisher- 30.8%

Cowher made a remarkable 6 AFCCGs in 16 seasons. He turned over his roster so many times that his winning% and playoff appearance% cannot possibly be a fluke. Cowher's primary QBs have been Neil O'Donnell, Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox, and Ben Roethlisberger, while Fisher's have been Chris Chandler, Steve McNair, Billy Volek, and Vince Young. Fisher, despite having an MVP-caliber QB and one of the most talented rosters in the league for much of his tenure (specifically, 1999-2003) has only one SB appearance and one more AFCCG appearance. Fisher is a very, very good coach... but he's not anywhere CLOSE to Cowher's level. Cowher, Shanahan, and Belichick are, in my opinion, the "elite" coaching tier, and all three are guys who, in my opinion, are going to get some pretty solid HoF consideration (I think Shanny and Belichick make it and Cowher just misses). I think there are a couple of other guys who are better coaches than Fisher, but who I would prefer Fisher to, such as Bill Parcells (Parcells might be a better coach, but Fisher is so much more dependable that I'd drastically prefer him).

As a Giants fan, I just vomited in my mouth reading that. :football: Edit to add: Agree with NY/NJMFDIVER, Fisher would have been a top choice for me too.

Crazy, how quickly Parcells went from coaching God to just another coach in many people's minds...

At his last few stops, he's insisted on being a GM too, a job that he's just not very good at.Also, it's amazing how great players and great assistant coaches can make the guy in charge look like a genius.

We'll know a lot about Kevin Reese if that happens. Regardless, I don't think Tuna would GM if he came back, nor would he want to. I'm sure he'd love one more ride, but this organziation has to move forward, not stroll down memory lane. I wouldn't be shocked if USC wins the title to really see Pete Carroll's name pop up here. His style would be a good contrast to Coughlins. Don't know that I'm in love with the that selection, but names always sell in NY.

It really looked like he was on his way out last year. When Haynesworth cheese grated the Cowboy's face, there was a lot made about Fisher's post game apology and that he was in line for the Dallas job and he was covering his ###. True or not, who knows. But then along comes Vince Young and all of a sudden a terrible team has a lightning bolt to rejuvenate them. With an experienced coach like Fisher to bring him along and has been said figures out how to use his guys, the Colts might be looking over their shoulders in a few seasons. Not at all suggesting Young and Co are better than Peyton and Co but with the education of Young ( and now possibly the Texans) the AFCS might be more than a one horse show. Titans had a very real shot at beating them yesterday.

I like Fisher, he's animated and gets his players up to play. Loved seeing him push Haynesworth around last year after the Dallas incident.

Parcells is still one of the best in the coaching business, but I'm not sure why any fanbase would want him at this point. He'll come around, give you a good 3 seasons, and then leave you in the exact same situation you were in before he showed up. New England, Denver, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Philadelphia have all demonstrated that the key to building a successful franchise in the long-term is consistency, something that Parcells is short on. Heck, I'd rather have Schottenheimer than Parcells at this point.
