Jeff Ireland asks Dez Bryant if his mom is a prostitute (1 Viewer)

To those saying that Ireland lied because he didn't say this in the beginning but apologized instead......

Do you honestly think it took days to come up with that "lie"? Also, it's not as if the Dolphins then came out with a statement about this? It came out as an SI story, not as the Dolphins holding an urgent press conference to clear the air. I don't think the Dolphins are really that concerned with this story or they would have said this themselves instead of waiting for some SI story. Either way, they've got a serious PR problem in Miami if it were to take 4 days to come up with that 5 line exchange of a lie.

I see your post all the time in Cowboys thread. I dont post alot read mostly. We will just agree to disagree on this. Glad you think Dallas rookie camp is special,,, I am sure Joe Mcknight wouldnt agree with you after he threw up on Rex Ryan..... Living in NE Texas is easy to like both dont get the hate? Now if they were in same division.........
Ahh NE Texas. That explains it. I think it is a Houston thing. I grew up in East Texas so that is why I can find it in my heart to like both although the Cowboys obviously have my loyalty.

Michael Irvin will tell you not to be worried about Dez Bryant's conditioning and actually will tell you that his display the first day was an excellent sign.

Check it out here.

On that same page you can see the Dez Bryant highlights. I know it is rookie camp but the guy is going to be incredible.

Sorry for the off topic post.

You guys can continue to defend the Jeff Ireland comments that he himself doesn't defend or condone.

You guys are so overboard with this.
What do you expect a week after the draft? Not much else to talk about.Maybe we should start another Ben Roethlisberger thread. We haven't had enough of those.BTW, where are all those Roeth supporters doing the good work for all men wronged? Oh, that's right, this isn't a Steeler we're talking about. :bag:

SI Story

Two sources familiar with the situation contend that Ireland's question was nothing more than the logical follow-up to comments Bryant had made about his family. According to the sources, Ireland began the meeting by asking Bryant, 21, about his upbringing and his relationship with his siblings. Then he asked what Bryant's father did for a living when Bryant was growing up. The following exchange allegedly ensued:

"My dad was a pimp."

"What did your mom do [for a living]?"

"She worked for my dad."

"Your mom was a prostitute?"

"No, she wasn't a prostitute."
Given the context, I think it reflects more poorly on how Dez has handled it than Ireland for asking.
Then why did Ireland apologize?
To make it go away. You think he's the first corporate official to decide that saying sorry is more expedient and cost effective than waging a PR war in the press and public eye...particularly when the issues of class and race are inevitably going to tinge the debate?

Maybe he did it in part to protect Dez from the embarassment of the public finding out his dad is/was a pimp and Dez was brought up in that type of environment. Maybe there's even more that came out in that interview and Ireland understands that if it becomes a Bryant vs. Ireland tabloid battle, there's a lot in Bryant's past to embarass him and Ireland doesn't wish the kid any harm. Bryant wouldn't be the first person in history to break confidentiality on something without considering the various ways it might backfire on him. Isn't that one of the manifestations of immaturity?

Maybe he's just now figured that out and now he's trying to do his own hush-hush manuever with his "I'm not mad anymore" bit.

It's not like Ireland came running out of the interview and grabbed a mic to blab to everyone that Dez's family was involved in prostitution. Dez went public and that's what has threatend to open the floodgates. I guarantee Dez wishes the genie was back in the bottle now. Because his past might become tabloid fodder now and leak outside of the parameters of draft background checks. Even casual fans might be curious now about this kids upbringing.

Prostitution isn't a dishonorable profession. The reaction here in this thread shows the artificial stigma foisted upon it. Pretty disappointed in you guys.
There's no such thing as artificial stigma.I don't have a problem with legalized prostitution. But to argue that the morality and norms that a social group favors and attempts to imprint on its members is somehow artificial and thus worthy of your disdain is to essentially wrap yourself in the same attitude of moral superiority that you rail against.Tell me you're being sarcastic and I just got hooked.
