Jeopardy Baby, Ooooh-ooh-oooooh (2 Viewers)

There's been some pretty terrible wagering in the past week or so, but today took the cake. I'm guessing Mrs. R threw her shoe at the TV at the end of the episode.

ETA: Making it worse, I thought FJ was pretty easy and everybody biffed it.

I came here to yell about it.  From Ken's reaction, I don't think he could belive it, either.
For her, it was totally believable. 5 games, 3 terrible bets.

ETA: Coverage in the Pittsburgh news says she's Archie Manning's niece and credits the family for her "competitive attitude".  Probably should have called "Omaha" before FJ.

Easiest thing and she kept screwing it up. You have the whole break to determine your FJ bet and this is the result? Way worse than just blanking on a question.

She was a sweet woman, but not a person I'd want to hit the casinos with.

With how uncomfortable she always seemed up there, I could see her not really being interested in coming back for the TOC. Wonder if she threw it. Or at least didn't care so much if she got it  wrong and lost.

She will very likely qualify.  I doubt she threw it.  She just can't bet properly.

Lotta weird FJ betting lately (yesterday being especially tragic.)

It occurs to me that not only were Amy and Matt amazing Megachamps (Uktrachamp? - unsure what’s fashionable), they were also awesome humans. We were blessed with a lot of super gracious winners last season and this year.

So apparently the TOC is convened whenever the producers deem “it’s time.” No hard and fast rules. Well rn we have 10 automatic qualifiers plus three 4-game winners. There are rumors they’ll have a second chance tournament, so that’s 14. Potentially we could be one more qualifier from having one of the most highly anticipated TOC ever.

I thought Ken said something about the TOC happening in November.
If he did I missed, sorry about that.

I know on jeopardy.com they announced they will again have a Second Chance Tournament to add one more contestant to the TOC.

https://thejeopardyfan.com/2022/02/jeopardy-second-chance-tournament-announced.html

https://www.jeopardy.com/jbuzz/news-events/jeopardy-second-chance-tournament-ep-michael-davies-explains

  • second chance tournament will be preceding the 2022 Tournament of Champions
  • the second chance will feed at least one more player into the 2022 Tournament
  • Jeopardy! National College Championship will be in the 2022 Tournament
  • the 4th placed player from the Jeopardy! National College Championship will be invited to second chance tournament (the college championship was ongoing when the announcement was made a month ago)
  • Second Chance Tournament will be restricted to only those who have played since the cutoff for the most recent Tournament of Champions

So let me get this straight...

Monday, the challenger wins only because 1st place was dumb enough to bet it all.

Then she does the same thing 2 straight games!?!?  :excited:   :boxing:

ikr - can’t remember a worse week of FJ betting

the Apollo category was living in my head rent free - who doesn’t recognize Buzz Aldrin instantly?

that whole game last night was turgid - 7 triple stumpers in J (all 4 revealed clues in Apollo), 9 in DJ, 2/3 DDs missed, champ makes a turrible wager that wins on a WAG

unrelated - if you ever find yourself on the west of the theatre district, drop by The Gaf West (48th St & 9th Ave.) It’s an official Bills Mafia bar if that’s your thing and can confirm as of last Thursday Austin Rogers is still pouring.

Still my ATF champ: winning in style

If Austin was ever added to the hosting rotation, I wouldn’t complain.

An easy final (Trials) and somehow the 2 leaders missed it so now we've got another episode with the giggling, bet it all,  doofus.    :boxing:

One of many recent FJs that should have been easy for everyone but wasn’t.

They should have put these people up against Matt or Amy to be steamrolled and saved some of the better players who lost to them for these weeks.

You mean you didn't like Giggly almost saying things correctly only to have the others get it right, and the girl in the middle with her "gahhhh" and facial expressions when she got one wrong wasn't what you were hoping for.

And how do you not come up with Milk when the clue was multi colored pennant.

Also liked the "You have $600 but you can wager up to $1000"  "I will make it a true daily double"  "OK for $1200 here is your clue..."

NINETEEN triple stompers 7 J 12 DJ - including the rare pure TS in which all three gave a wrong answer. 17 wrong answers including 2 of 3 DDs. 3 clues left on the board (every game this week? think so.) The combined Coryat score tonight was $15,409.

Exceptionally awful game & one of the worst week of contestants in recent years.

You thought Wednesday’s Apollo category was bad? The 6-letter world capitals category resulted in a net Combined Coryat of -$4,800 for the contestants:

• Guinness isn't English
• Krakow isn't the capital of Poland 🇵🇱 (for now we’ll ignore King Wenceslas wasn’t Polish)
• Zurich isn't the capital of Switzerland 🇨🇭
• Addis Ababa is neither 6 letters nor the capital of Eritrea

Seriously, if they’d asked “this six-letter city is the capital of Canada" those donkeys wold have answered "What is Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte?"

__________

4-time champ ($58.2K) Maureen wraps up her week of terrible wagers with a  -2600 game. Way to limp off into the sunset girl.

(still, technically in the running for the TOC so ‘grats.)

I watched all week except today, but I am traveling. Hopefully I remember to watch it when I get back to my house.

I love a good jeopardy trainwreck.

This was one of the worst episodes (in terms of gameplay) in a while, even accounting for the general bad play of the last 2 weeks.

To be fair, I thought there were a lot of hard categories and I don’t know if I would have done well either.

This was more evidence that the “worst” episodes tend to air on Fridays, as those are filmed at the end of a taping day, when everyone is tired.

If I recall correctly, 4 of the 5 games this week had the leader entering Final Jeopardy bet the entire amount.

I guess we just have to understand that these are the people of quiz shows, the common clay of Jeopardy.

You know...morons.

Interesting that they opened today's episode with a showing of the TOC leaderboard. I don't recall them ever mentioning on the show itself that it exists (the website is a different story).

I wonder if the rationale was to convey to the viewers "don't let those last two weeks of crappy games get you down -- later this year you'll see Matt and Amy again!"

I especially loved today's middle contestant.  After the one on the right said the correct answer but too late, she gave the answer "marsh" for words with one consonant.  Ouchie.

Oh man are they playing with fire on Final Jeopardy. Could really have backfired. Asking for a Matthew McConaughey quote from 'Dazed & Confused' is dangerous territory for a 'family' show.

If anyone couldn't remember "alright, alright, alright", I doubt they would remember any other lines.

That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.

(that’s what the internet says and I know memory is a funny thing…but I could have sworn the line was originally “freshman girls”…takes it from creepy/pervy to “somebody call child protective services”)

I loathe Bialik as the host.  Her timing is all wrong, after every contestant response she waits just a beat before giving a too enthusiastic "Correct!" and it disrupts the flow.  And anytime they're not "in the game", her sole focus is trying to make a pun out of whatever is being said.

Ken is far and away the smoother host, and every contestant recently has agreed.  Do the right thing Jeopardy.
