Jeopardy Baby, Ooooh-ooh-oooooh (1 Viewer)

Despite the weird FJ betting, this TOC finals has been everything you could ask for. It was tied 1-1-1 after 3 games, all games except one have been competitive and the finishes except for the one runaway have been exciting. It's about the most evenly matched group you could ask for.

Yogesh would have won much more in his original run if he'd been better on the buzzer. It looks like he practiced, because he's acquitted himself pretty well there. He tends to start slow but then goes on runs as he gets more comfortable.

I'm rooting for Troy, but he's missed 2 Final questions that would have already given him the championship.
Congrats to Ben who bet perfectly yesterday.
It's a very entertaining TOC with three great and likable players.

Yeah, Yogesh has been a lot stronger on the buzzer through his ToC run. He caused a bit of a mini-controversy last year where he compared Jeopardy to Holey Moley. Feels like he accepted that if wanted to succeed this time around then, yeah, it is about more than just knowing trivia answers and did need to get better at the other skills needed. But I'm more Team Ben or Troy because of his comments last year.

They are all pretty even matched and has been fun to watch.

It also seems like he's making an effort to be more lighthearted when he talks because of how he came off during and after his original run.

Does anyone else wonder when we will have normal matches again?
Well, for this tournament, we have 7 more quarterfinal matches, 3 semifinal matches and a final that will be either 2, 3 or 4 episodes (first to 2 wins). So that's another 2.5 to 3 weeks.

But I don't know how they're filling the 6th spot of Jeopardy Masters.

1-3: James, Mattea and Matt, the top 3 finishers of last year's Jeopardy Masters.
4: Yogesh, winner of this year's TOC.
5: Whoever wins Jeopardy Invitational.
6: ????????????

6 - Ken will both host and be a contestant?

Is there a lack of new potential contestants? Why has everything been returning contestants? Did the writers and/or actors strikes somehow screw up casting? Seems like they are really stretching out avoiding new people.

Yeah, the writer's strike screwed it up, the Jeopardy writers were picketing, Mayim refused to cross the lines, and they had to use old and unused clues. The producers didn't want new contestants using old material, so now we're at like six months of returning players. Apparently one episode had an entire category rehashed from 2003 :lmao:

Is that what's going on? I can buy that.

(Go Sam!)

Just watched today’s episode. I knew the Final Jeopardy question and the contestants didn’t ….something that happens for me maybe once every couple of years.

What the hell was that woman’s bet today? How can these smartish people be that dumb?
I'm no Jeopardy master or math wiz, but also thought what the hell was that? Just at first glance you have to cover the leader's bet in case he gets it wrong. She might hear about that one for awhile.

Victoria is unbelievable. Happy to see her win masters tourney.
I wondered why she wasn't familiar originally and they said that she had only won one Jeopardy game but was picked because of her prowess in The Chase and other quiz shows.
Inviting her back to play in the Invitational was certainly the right call as she is just amazing. She also seems very pleasant, too.
Cocky Holzhauer only got 3rd.

And Adriana finally loses, to the first Survivor contestant to be on Jeopardy*.

For this game she faced two good opponents, one of whom was just as fast on the buzzer as her. So not finding either DD in DJ really hurt her, when usually it hasn't mattered.

Adriana is one of the few post-Holzhauer champs to play the "traditional" way -- go top-down in the categories, not hunt for DDs constantly, and rely on their vast knowledge. That can work against average or worse players, but it probably won't fly in the TOC, she'll likely need to change things up there.

This game also was more proof that aggressive DD wagering is the way to go. Adriana usually bid cautiously, and against lesser opponents it usually didn't matter. Tekra did the same and it cost her the win (she was the only one to get FJ right and would have been able to catch Drew if she'd gone all-in on her DD). Drew bet big on his DD and it won him the game.

* - Drew's first confessional on his Survivor season was "I am objectively the smartest person here." He may not have been wrong.

When they introduced the players I thought he looked familiar, then when he started talking I said I think that's the guy from Survivor, Napoleon Dynamite, who liked to reference ancient quotes in his stories at TC, that Probst liked so much.

Gutsy wager in the DD in the double Jeopardy round. Was glad to see him win but Adriana had an awesome run and should do well in the TOC.
