He played it right for a normal opponent. Against James, he had to go for it. The female contestant posted on reddit that she and Nate agreed before the game that they would hunt for DDs and go all in when they found one, but he chickened out this time and it cost him the chance at immortality.

I thought he was crazy not to go all in on that as well. The game turned right after that as James found the 2nd DD right after that and then ran a good portion of the rest of the board.

Exactly.  And the key to being ahead going into FJ is to deny James as many DD opportunities as possible.  Ideally, don't let him have any DDs.  Of course, the opponents still have to come up with correct answers on a big chunk of the puzzle to make this work.  

 
Was actually pretty epic game Friday with James calling back to Dr. Dree, circumventing new rules to shout out the Vegas Strip, joking about Jeopardy being a career option and breaking $2 million. Too bad DJ DDs wasted or would have put up new record.

After single jeopardy I thought we were going to see that 130k surpassed

The SC finals dates are set well in advance and they contestants know what date each show is airing. That's why Boston had 12 days off, even if the San Jose - St. Louis series ended in 4 games, game 1 of this series would have still been tonight

Yeah, but at least both players were basically adopting his same strategy and if they could have just kept that last dd away from him, final jeopardy could have been interesting.  He would have had about $31k and sara maybe could have been at like $17(?). I forget what their exact scores were at the time of the last dd.

I mean if that happens there's always the, "So you're saying I have a chance" factor but he's hit 28 of 29 FJ questions. 3.45% he answers incorrectly and then the other contestant has to hit, so what are the odds? Like 1.7% or less. You have to be in the lead going into FJ to take him down baring a miracle.

 
Alex Trebek shares 'mind-boggling' pancreatic cancer update

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek says his doctors say he's in "near remission" of advanced pancreatic cancer and his response to the treatment is "kind of mind-boggling."

The 78-year-old TV personality tells People magazine he's responding very well to chemotherapy and the doctors have told him "they hadn't seen this kind of positive results in their memory." Trebek says some of the tumors have shrunk by more than 50%.

Trebek announced his diagnosis in March, but said he intended to keep working. He said he planned to beat the disease's low survival rate with the love and support of family and friends and with prayers from viewers.

The American Cancer Society estimates 3% of patients with stage 4 pancreatic cancer are alive 5 years after being diagnosed.

Trebek says he still has several more rounds of treatment to hopefully get into full remission.

It never pays to get on the wrong tangent in Jeopardy. Take the final last night for example.

19th Century Novels: The author of this tale dedicated the novel to British philosopher William Godwin, her father.

I have never heard of William Godwin, but I (and many other Jeopardy watchers) have heard of the mountain Godwin- Austen, better known as K2.

So I made the connection to Austen (Jane), who is probably the most famous female author of the 19th century. So I went with Sense and Sensibility.

:wall:  Doh, wrong again.

I actually just thought of the first female author of the time I could think of but didn't read the question correctly and would have answered "Who is Mary Shelley"

For some reason "tale" suggested something other than a romantic story to me, which ruled out most female authors of the 19th century. That sent me to the correct answer, even though I had never heard of Godwin.

 
He must not have lost.

I'm kind of pathetic that I look for results here so that I don't have to watch.  That's gonna stink when (if) he finally loses.

Another $50+.  It was never close as he had $8k before the other two contestants decided to participate.  

Anyone catch how quickly Alex took James up on skipping his portion of the interview?
