Jerious Norwood (1 Viewer)

I drafted him in my primary league, a 12-team DYN, because I have Dunn and I wanted a "long-term cuff" - - I did a similar thing in drafting Stovall because I have Galloway. Now, the Dunn-Norwood cuff is actually a short-term situation. Interesting.

Yeah, I think Norwood has excellent potential as a starting RB - - but the only limiting factor is his size. The Falcons actually floated the idea, about a week to ten days ago, of lining him up as a WR in some offensive packages. That's great, but if he's going to be a primary RB in the NFL, he may need a bit more bulk.

That said, I'm thrilled to have drafted him.

I think I'm going to try and sell him high at some point. He's so skinny. I have no clue if he can play a season or carry the load. Is he gonna be like Chris Perry, stuck behind Rudi, always getting hurt? Hell that's kind of how im feeling him now. I prefer Harrison in CLE, he's shorter, but I think better muscled. I'll wait till Norwood has a few good games doing somthing and see if I can get someone to bite hard.

What I mean I guess is he's built more like a WR I think. He's 5'11, 205. So the weights not bad. But really thin legs, the opposite of what you usually look for in a RB.

The thing with Norwood is he does most things well, but does not excel in any area. However, he is on a STRONG running team and that will help his numbers. Whether he is the long term answer is hard to say.

I feel the same way.......I like him but I have my doubts about his durability.

He's much bigger than Warrick Dunn, who has proven to be pretty durable in that offense. Do you guys see him as being that much skinnier and injury-prone than Dunn? Does he have a history of injuries?

Well Dunn is small but I think he had thicker legs. Barry Sanders is the best example of what I mean. He was really short, only 5'8, but he had HUGE thighs and calves. I think thats generally what you want out of a runningback. They are always in the middle of the pile, cutting through the line. Their legs probably take the most beating in there. Norwood has long slender legs. Like Ashley Lelie with slightly bigger thighs.

It wouldn't be hard to put on some muscle mass in the offseason if he were given the chance to be the guy next year.

He was pretty durable in college. He had nearly 200 carries each of the past two seasons playing behind a horrendous line and a really bad team. But he still managed to gain 5 ypc playing against some of the most elite defenses in the country. If you really have concerns about his durability check his line against UF in '04 and watch the video of his final (clinching) TD run. He is slight, but is young and will continue to mature. The Falcons obviously see something if they are willing to have him #2 on the depth chart behind an aging tailback. I wouldn't read too much into the reports of him lining up on the outside, if anything such reports emphasize the Falcons desire to get him touches sooner rather than later.

I think he has fantasy stud written all over him. He is fast, plays on turf, in an offense that empahsizes one cut.

I already expect 10 carries a game from Norwood.

I can see Dunn staying with the Falcons next year but taking the back seat to Norwood.

He has a great college coach who had great things t osay about his capabilities.

He played in a hardnose conference in college and is a work-out warrior.

Had the 2nd fastest RB 40 time at the combine

I agree with everythingyou said except:"He has a great college coach who had great things t osay about his capabilities."

How does everybody think Norwood (6.0' 204lbs) will be used in the offense now. He is a far cry from the size of TJ Duckett (6.0' 254lbs). Although he is bigger than Dunn (5.9' 180lbs), I can't really see him stepping into Duckett's previous goal line role....Does this trade present more TDs for Dunn, or more of the same with Norwood taking Ducketts place? Or will the Falcon's be shopping for another bruiser??? People in the Atlanta area, your opinions are welcomed?

I thought Norwood had the fastest time. Well that's what all the announcers were saying in the 2 preseason games.

Not in the ATL area, but Alabama, so I am close :) . I think the trade bumps Dunn's value a bit, but he may still give way in certain short yardage situations to Griffith who is pretty under-rated IMO (and interestingly is another MSU RB).As someone posted earlier, I don't the trade changes Norwood's value much this year in redrafts, other than making him an automatic hand-cuff to Dunn. I think his value climbs significantly for '07 and beyond. I beleive he was going to be in their offensive game plan regardless.I think 10 carries for Norwood + 3-5 catches is realistic this year. Dunn will be the workhorse, but the Falcons apparently want Jerious to get touches. Think Tatem Bell this year, Dunn like production in the future.

Yep, Heres a blurb:Atlanta's 3rd-rd pick from Missisippi State, has a chance to be very special according to his college coach Sylvester Croom. Croom, a former longtime NFL assistant in Indianapolis, Detroit, San Diego and Green Bay, says he loved watching Norwood practice every day “because it never looked like work." He's creating a buzz with his jaw-dropping speed. "You can tell that he's got a second gear," said Falcons RB coach Ollie Wilson. "The reason we got him was because of his speed and physicalness." Norwood ran a 4.33 at the NFL scouting combine. "I just got down and ran," Norwood said. "I said my prayers and rolled on with it." Croom adds that the kid reminds him of ex-Chargers RB Ronnie Harmon. "Jerious is very similar but he's probably a better inside runner than Ronnie was," Croom said. Norwood mastered a pro-style offense at Mississippi State with plays identical to Green Bay's West Coast offense, which Croom brought with him to Miss. St. “I talked to Sly before we drafted him, and even a lot of the terminology is the same," added Ollie Wilson. "Anytime a rookie can come in and have familiarity with what's going on, it's a plus."

You should have said:"His college coach, who was a great professional assistant coach, had great things to say about his capabilities."Obviously I'm not sold on Sylvester in Starkville, but its a tough place to win (unless you're Jackie $herrill). But Croom knows professional running backs, and Norwood def. has the tools.

He looks like Tatum Bell when he runs.
