Jerry Porter - How To Win Friends & Influence People (1 Viewer)

Wow! they really couldn't move him in a trade huh? He is begging to get cut or traded. I can't believe someone actually picked him up in my league today he went undrafted

next Porter will threaten to burn the building down if they dont give back his Swingline stapler
I heard he was cut years ago, but because of a glich in accounting, he still receives a paycheck...
:lmao: Al Davis (burning the midnight oil): Dammit! The league told us to get into cap compliance but I just can't get these numbers to jive!

When he passes on, you're right. It'll be huge. He shaped the NFL and helped make it what it is. So I'd say the hype will be justified there. Aside from that, he's been one of the most interesting guys in the game forever.J
And according to Paul Tagliabue and several owners, Davis was instrumental in getting the various factions of widely-differing owners to reach the settlement with the union on the CBA. I believe when the first meeting was convened Tagliabue spoke to the owners first and Davis spoke second.

Al Davis is the last guy you want to play this kind of game with because, as he's shown with Allen, the Cities of L.A., Oakland, and Irwindale, and the NFL, he will carry grudges into his business dealings and he knows how to play that game and win.
Dude, have you seen Al Davis lately - I think he's lucky if he still knows how to breathe without assistance, let alone conduct "business." I figure that's why the rehired Art - he can do Al's anger/petulance/bat #### crazy antics for him so Al can spend most of his time getting his continuous formaldehyde transfusions.
Well, yes I have. And you don't want to mess with Emperor Al"I will now destroy you young Jedi Jerry."

Excellent info here.
I'm only partially kidding. Do you honestly think Davis has much to do with running the football team at this point? I don't think he's got 2 brain cells left to rub together.
Hi Groovus,I'm no Raider expert but Yes I think he has a lot to do with running the team still. He's physically fading fast but the interviews I've seen with him, he's mentally still as sharp as he was.J
Thanks Joe, after the input from the others in this thread I'm convinced Al still has his hands on the wheel - well except when he has to travel, then someone else drives, which is a good thing. As a Charger fan that makes me very, very, VERY happy. Keep up the great work Al!

Davis demanded Porter's signing bonus be repaid before he was allowed to seek trade offers, which would have been at least a 1st round pick. Davis basically said that it would be impossible for Porter to leave since there is no way someone pays $10 mil to leave town, and very few teams would be willing to give up the two 1st round picks Davis wants, or a 1st + some for us realists. Big Al definately still has his wits about him and is obviously as ornery as ever. Porter is going to rot. No question.

Raiders | Porter stuck in Oakland?

Sun, 10 Sep 2006 07:16:55 -0700

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports Oakland Raiders WR Jerry Porter still wants out of Oakland, but it may not happen due to the Raiders demands for Porter. The Raiders, who were asking for two first-round picks for Porter, now will take one first-rounder. But they also want Porter, or the team that picks him up, to pay his $4 million signing bonus. None of that appears likely to happen. Head coach Art Shell could sit him frequently as an example, but that could hurt the team as much as Porter.
The ugly situation that just doesn't appear that it will look pretty at any point. That is a lot of money to spend for a guy you are not going to use, huh? Either you value him or you don't, if you don't then trade him and get what you can and be done with it. If you do value him, play him and make him earn his salary.

I would love to know how a Denver columnist has any insight into the Raiders at all. I also don't see how this makes the situation uglier. This article could have been published 4 weeks ago.

Doesn't make it uglier than it is...just keeps it ugly. Ugly = Whitted starting over Porter. Come on...everyone knows Porter has more talent in his pinky than Whitted has in him.

The Raiders need to be more concerned with the players having a bit of discipline, not getting stupid penalties, and playing as a team. They are real young, and will learn as the season goes on.Porter signs a big deal, comes into camp, and for no reason, starts crap with the coach. He acts the fool all summer long, and they should start him Week 1? No way. No effing way.

The funny part is, if they did start him, Raiders bashers would say he's an Al Davis favorite, and this is why the Raiders don't win. And they'd be right to say that. So now they're doing the right thing, and they get bashed for showing the team is more important.

I have a lot of problems with moves the Raiders have made, but not this one. Porter needs to be a team guy, or he can sit on the bench.

Oh, you're just saying that because Whitted hasn't had the opportunity to show his vast WR talents in the first seven years of his career! I think he's poised to have a career year! :football:
