The 4-3 Jets play the 1-5 Browns this weekend. Any guesses on the last time two teams with those records played each other in week 8 of an NFL season?
Answer: 1924, when the Akron Pros played the Chicago Cardinals.

Somehow, that question never entered my mind.In case anyone was wondering, a 6-0 team has played a 5-1 team in week eight on four occasions. When 6-0 Indy heads to 5-1 Denver, that will make the fifth. Two years ago, the 5-1 Steelers hosted the 6-0 Patriots; Steelers won.In 1999, the 5-1 Titans hosted the 6-0 Rams. The Titans won.In 1998, the 5-1 Jaguars went to Mile High and lost to the 6-0 Broncos. In 1936, the 5-1 Packers won in Chicago, who was previously undefeated.Interesting that the home team has won both times they were the 5-1 team. Might give Broncos fans a bit of hope.
Certain teams, including Akron and Cleveland, didn't start until week two in those days. I have no idea what the reasoning behind that was, but it might have something to do with geography. Cleveland didn't play in week one in 1923, 1924, 1925 or 1927, the only four years of existence for the franchise (the Bulldogs). In 1924, 1925 and 1926, Akron also didn't play in week one, but they did in some years prior. It might be geography related, it might be how the teams were aligned back then, or it could have just been a random occurence. Sorry I can't be more helpful. It is what it is said:I'm guessing there were no bye weeks in 1924. What was the reason for one of the two teams playing one less game back then?Answer: 1924, when the Akron Pros played the Chicago Cardinals.
The Browns are favorites by 1.5. The fact that Browns at 1-5 are laying any points to a 4-3 team tells me Vegas is expecting the Browns to win and hoping people will jump on the Jets, actually getting point here.Man, how disappointing. I thought this thread was going to be about how the J-E-T-S were going to run up, down, and around the Brownies this weekend!Leon Washington left tackle for 17 yards.Leon Washington sweep right for 13 yards.Pennington deep left to Laverneaus Coles for 44 yards.Leon Washington up the middle for 8 yards TOUCHDOWN!

Real close to the depression era in '24, and Baseball was THE sport back then.
Noticed a big difference in the number of games played between the 19 teams in the league at the time. Looks like the Frankford (Philadelphia) Yellow Jackets got 14 games in that year, Milwaukee Badgers got 13 games in, while the Packers, Bears and Buffalo Bisons each got 11 games in. The rest of the league ranged from 10 games (Racine Legion) played, on down to 0 games played for the now HOF locale Canton (Bulldogs).

The following year in 1925, Frankford nearly doubled all teams in games played with 21 (13-8) games played...they must have had the league's marquee name playing for them during that time.
Even MoreThe team often played a grueling schedule of 15 to 20 games a season. Frequently, they would schedule two games on the same weekend, typically one at home on Saturday and, because of Pennsylvania blue laws, an away game on Sunday.
In 1925 the Frankford Athletic Association enlisted the services of Guy Chamberlin, an All-American out of Nebraska who had played on four of the five previous NFL championship teams, serving as player-coach to three them: Cleveland, 1924 and Canton, 1922-23. Chamberlin signed on with the Yellow Jackets to both coach and play end. The team got off to a strong start that season, going 9-1-0 in their first ten games, but their run title tailed off after losing several key players, including Chamberlin, to injuries. Following a 49-0 blowout by the Pottsville Maroons, the coach took the unusual move of suspending team captain Bull Behman for "indifferent play" and warning everyone that any player not giving their best effort would be subject to the same. The feisty Nebraskan then returned himself to the line-up for the next game, against Red Grange and the Chicago Bears.
While the Yellow Jackets lost at home to both Chicago and Cleveland following Chamberlin's dramatic moves, the team's play had improved. They went on to close out the year on the road with victories in a pair of late additions to their schedule -- at Providence, a game in which they substituted for the recently suspended Pottsville Maroons, and at Cleveland, where they substituted for the Chicago Bears -- to finish the season with a 13-7-0 record in league play.
Just like Roy Williams last weekLet's get to the good stuff, and talk about key players:I think Braylon Edwards is going to bust out in a big way. 6 catches, 110 yards, and a TD which makes him a sneaky play.
