JETS Might sign Jason Taylor (1 Viewer)

Taylor

IMO, this is hilarious - Jason Taylor has spoken out about Jets fans for years. During the MNF Miracle at the Meadowlands comeback Taylor was the main Goat and made a huge Jackass out of himself laughing it up as Miami took the lead.... He jarred back and forth all game with Jets fans....

I thought it would be a good fit as the Jets need a pass rusher - and I'm personally fine with it. I just wonder what other fans think....

Also, can't wait to hear from Taylor - and this may provide some more drama for Hard Knocks show as Jets fans might razz him a bit.

After all the shots JT has taken at the Jets and their fans he's going to sign with them? I just don't see it happening.

They are flying him into the new Giant stadium via helicopter and will display a video montage of his career on the big screen. How sweet.

How are they even able to offer him a decent contract? Can't they only offer up to 1.5 million a year - the amount the K Feeley left for?

So they let Thomas Jones, a dude that busted his #### for the team, walk for a few bucks only to bring in a sworn enemy in JT? To me it sounds like JT is using the Jets/Patriots to up his price in Miami.

only to bring in a sworn enemy in JT?
Perhaps to the fans, he's a "sworn enemy" (if you want to be overly dramatic), but why would management/coaching staff care of he previously played for the rival Dolphins.Personally I don't think he has a whole lot left in the tank, but the Jets do need some one that can get pressure on the QB in non-blitz packages so he's worth a look.Hoepfully when they show his career highlights they include the "they ain't coming back on us" in there.

I could see Taylor being useful replacing Thomas on third downs and obvious passing situations. He's 36, but he should be able to play well on 30 or so snaps a game used almost exclusively as a pass rusher.

Listening to WFAN today here in NY?

Fans calling up saying they will not renew their season tickets if they sign JT - not making this up.

No thanks. I'll boo him every time he takes the field.

A total enemy of the franchise and not a great player anymore.

They didn't exactly let him go "for a few bucks" - He was due 5.8 million dollars for one year - Sounds to me like they wanted to renegotiate that but, TJ felt slighted and took a deal elsewhere for possibly less than the Jets would have given.....Does sounds like Taylor is trying to get a better deal in Miami....Jets are still waiting for NE to let go of Adalius Thomas.

It is kinda funny - a team that JT has basically called a bag of **** his entire career - now rolling out the red carpet for him to come play there.

This is all about leverage IMO.

I could care less to. For the most part, these guys are mercenaries in my eyes (not to meant as negative as it may seem...just the nature of the biz), but if Dallas could sign a guy like TO, who stomped on their freakin' logo, i see no reason why we could not sign someone who (1) could possibly help us, (2) come relatively cheap and (3) while he was a rival, I personally don't think of him as a "hated" opponent.

I call BS......

That's ridiculous..... Even though JT has been a total #### over the years, if he can contribute who cares... Most of that #### he talked about was just fun and games IMO....

And more often than not, the Jets owned JT.... I remember when Kevin Mawae used to eat him for lunch and jab him all the way down the field - it was hilarious - and the MNF Miracle game made JT look like a giant panzy.... IMO, that guy can come crawling to the Jets at this point and I'm fine with it...

He's the one who had the problem... The Jets roll out the carpet for all potential suitors.... He had the problem with NY and Jets fans and here he is looking for a job..... THAT is what I'm laughing at...I'll take him, just bow down and beg ####.

I think the hate was mostly one dimensional -- Taylor hating the Jets. I don't think most Jets fans hated Miami or Taylor; the Jets beat them almost every time. In the prime of Taylor's career, the Jets beat Miami eight straight times, and all of the Dolphins victories came in down years for the Jets or didn't end up costing them a playoff spot.

Except in 2008...Taylor wasn't on that team.

Exactly - the 1 time Miami got the Jets - In a game I thought was over before it started the way that year crash landed, JT was in Washington...From 1998-2007 The bulk of his career, Jets were 16-4 vs Miami. Most Jets fans laughed at Jason Taylor running his mouth... It's not as if he was on the Patriots or something.IMO, the funny thing is, Most of JT's antics were born out of frustration playing ateam he thought he should beat that whupped him A LOT - and again Mawae in particular REALLY killed him.IMO, JT Was a sideshow - But, if he can rush the passer bring him in.

The Dolphins didn't cost the Jets a playoff spot in '08, either (but yes, Taylor wasn't on that team).

WOW - when did the Jets fans become so optimistic & arrogant?

Was it before or after the AFC Championship game?

Brings back great memories for me. The last time the Jets fans were so optimistic was the season following the last time they were in the AFC championship game - 1999. Broncos 23 Jets 10. The following season brought on a new green bravado never seen before at the Meadowlands. That hope was quickly squashed when Vinny's achilles snapped & rolled up like a broken window shade in Week 1. I'll never forget my Jet buddies screaming at the TV . . .

"Vinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny . . . . . . . . . . . . . . nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

Ah good times.

The Jets D is too good for JT - they don't need him. Maybe this is the year Gholston puts it together?

:lmao: :lmao:Where do you see anyone being overly optimistic in this thread? And Optimistic about what? That's some stretching you're doing - is THIS Jason Taylor? The Jets and Jets fans can't be overly arrogant about much but, when it comes to Jason Taylor and his Fat mouth - BRING IT ON!!!!!If JT's Team had the record the Jets have against him, I wouldn't say a thing but, the numbers are what they are.... I'm not overly optimistic at all regarding the season and every single Jets fan I know is as cautiously optomistic as Jets fan can be.... But, we're still dealing with a very young, hopefully developing and hopefully healthy QB.

Good stuff ReaperFunny you mention big fat mouths - Jets were doing plenty of talking last year even after they got swept. Wildcat is a gimmicky play, etc.I've been going to Dolphins @ Jets for a long time - since mid 80's. There have been stretches where the Dolphins have owned the Jets - and there have been times where the Jets have owned the Dolphins. All time record I believe the Jets are 46-40 vs the Dolphins.I like the new optimism - keep it up - will only make the crash back to reality that much sweeter.

I think you project a lot of some image you have of a Jets fan probably from listening to NY Talk radio, maybe some co-workers and the fact that you're an enemy fan living in NY - and I'd bet my house that you're a bit punchy in real life when it comes to SMACK and Sports......... If I lived in Miami and listened to Dolphins fans all day I'd probably have a simlilar personal conflict going on. Most jets fans I know - and when I meet a random Jets fan - we're all pretty much the same Sports fan who has been through a lot and hasn't been to the promised land in our lifetime - Probably the most realistic and down to earth fans I've met.... I think most rational Football fans see Henne and Sanchez in similar stages of development - And the teams pretty close.....I'm positive that changes depending on New York Or Miami radio......IMO, the HEALTHIER team will have a better season. If I lived in Miami, I'm sure I'd go a little batty as well - I know a few Miami fans in NY who suffer a similar fate.

Taylor has run his mouth - A LOT. But that's on him - I don't care. I don't even care if he owned the team or visa versa. If he's willing to play and the team thinks they can get production from him I say giddyup.

The Jets need some more pass rushing help. If they think JT fits the bill, I don't care.

I'm more concerned we might be buying into a few too many aging vets right now.

As far as Jets fans being cocky and arrogant.....really?

I see a lot of people in this thread either feeling like I do or disliking the move based on it being Taylor. Not 'we're so good we don't need him....'

I might debate the 15 sacks thing, but Ryan wouldn't be Ryan if he didn't pop off. I mean, I think Taylor could be productive and all but probably not THAT much....

Interesting talk of the Jets releasing Brian Thomas if this goes down for a small savings.

Regardless, I'd expect the Jets to draft a pass rusher...

Gonna be a sad night in Miami. From a pretty reliable sports radio contact, Taylor is not there to just get a little leverage. He signed a 1 year deal last year in Miami and it was a rough season. He wasn't here in 2008 when Miami went 11-5.

The deal makes a ton of sense for Taylor who wants to be in New York so he can get ready to pursue life after the NFL, seems like he is sure he will be on TV in some form or capacity. Taylor played for $1 million last year and I bet he will sign for the same this year, just wants a shot to go deep in the playoffs, and right now the Jets are one of two teams that everyone is touting with the other being the Ravens.

I want to hope Taylor is using the Jets for leverage but my brain says he is likely to sign. He's gonna love Rex Ryan.

I have nothing but admiration for Jason Taylor and he is easily the best DE the Miami Dolphins ever had and I bleieve he is a future HoF candidate too. I wouldn't want him to play for the Jets but after what Philly did with McNabb and the SKins, you can't set yourself up to get let down too hard as a fan now.

Reason number 528 why jets fans are stupid. Not wanting JT on your team.

I'd take (in no particular order) -- Tom Brady, Wes Welker, Randy Moss, Revis, Lav. Coles, and any other Jet/patriot/bill or colt that I hated if he makes the dolphins a better team. I am unhappy Miami has not resigned JT, and him going to the Jets would be a crime, but he will help your team and give you more pass rush fromt he end than anything you have on the roster right now.

Hell, I'd take Rex Ryan for Tony Sporano straight up at this moment, and look at what that fat tub of Goo has said about miami.

With all the players and coaches that have shuffled between New England and New York, I'm surprised anyone in NY cares that much.....

As long as Rex thinks he can use him, I'm totally fine with it.. .

All good points Reaper - most of it true.

I don't get my image of Jets fans from talk radio though - I personally know plenty (friends & family) and more than a few are delirious and overly optimistic IMO. Some strutting around like they won something last year. Everytime the fan base gets optimistic it doesn't end well.

Hoping JT retires a Dolphin but it's sounding like he about ready to sign a 1 year deal with the Jets.

Might have a few sacks left in him but he's absolutely horrible vs the run.

JT is looking for TV face time - no doubt Hard Knocks and NY gives him that.

Well, for starters, it looks like the majority around here is fine with it.. But, there is a difference with the other guys you mentioned... I don't think Brady, Welker, Moss, Revis or Coles has run around a field mocking fans and jumping up and down like a jack ### and then call out an entire set of fans as classless...... SOOOOOO Glad that Monday Night Miracle game had JT Miked up!!!!!!!!! So, while I don't have a problem with it, I could see why some Jet fan might and again putting Taylor in the class of those other guys is a little silly unless we want to go quote for quote with any of those guys trashing NY and Jet fans.

Between you and me, Every time the Dolphin fan base and fans I know got optimistic, it also never ended well...... :shrug:I had to hear about the Fins of the 70's for 30 years... I was 5 in 1973.... I saw as much of that SB as I did Joe Namath winning one.I know some pretty mouthy Miami fans - And I absolutely think they have a New York complex from either living up here or living with a lot of New Yorkers down there......LOVE the avatar btw. Sign of respect.

I live in NY (being a Dallas fan), so I have no dog in this race..... but I've found the Jet fans to be the most manic-depressive I've come across. Most of my friends are Giant fans (go figure) and even they gasp at the extremes they get to. It's actually pretty entertaining, but I worry for their health. That said, I think JT would be a fine addition.... if only for his interviews on Hard Knocks.

If it got my Jets to the SuperBowl for the first time in my 39 yrs on this Earth I wouldn't care if they signed every JEt hater out there! Who gives a crap - hated Favre in GB - loved him as a Jet; LT was done in SD now a stud in NY; thought Rex was a fat blowhard when he was in Balt now I love the guy!

Trade of Feely for Taylor sounds good to me!

Miami Dolphins great Jason Taylor has never held back when speaking publicly about his disdain for the New York Jets and their fans:

On implosion of old Meadowlands Stadium in 2009: "Go ahead, they can turn it into a parking lot for all I care."

On the Jets' talking trash under Rex Ryan during 2009 season: "There comes a point where you've got to win with class, and you've got to lose with class, and we try to do that. We're not perfect. We do engage in some of the trash going back and forth, but at the end of the day we have two wins, and I think that gives us a little more reason to talk."

After Jets beat Dolphins 40-13 in Miami during 1-15 2007 season: "They suck, too. They beat us. They'll go home happy, and their fans will be happy that they got three wins this year."

On returning a fumble for a touchdown against the Jets in 30-25 win at Meadowlands in 2009: "To score a touchdown in New York against the Jets in the last time I'll be in the hellhole they call a stadium up there before they get rid of it and move to the new one, it was outstanding."

On relationship with Jets fans on Sirius NFL Radio in November, 2009: "The problem I have is with the Jets fans. It's not really a problem; it's kind of this rivalry that has gone on, and they love to hate me, and I love to hate them, and we've had some fun over the years. They've had a lot of fun at my expense. I've had some fun at their expense at times. It's the times like this where you beat them and they just keep talking. They just keep going, and they just don't know when to be quiet. You know, I've said a lot of things about Jets fans in the past, and I'm sure at heart they're good people. Most of them are good people. The Giants fans are a different type of people. Just put it that way. There's a little more class on the Giants' side, and some Jets fans take the 'c-l' out of class."

On playing possibly for the Jets as a free agent prior to 2009 season: "It'd be very, very, very difficult. At the end of the day, if I couldn't find a job anywhere else and the Jets called, I guess I'd have to retire or go play. ... "The Jets are the Jets. I've had a lot of history saying bad things about Jets fans. The fireman hat guy [Fireman Ed], and all of the people in New York that are Jets fans are not the ones that are working on Wall Street. I've said all of those things. So I've got to leave it at that."

Before a Dolphins-Jets game at Miami in December, 2005: "[Jets fans] don't have a whole lot else going for them, and they rely on the Jets beating the Dolphins. I wouldn't want to live in New York in November or December either, so they come down here and fill up our stadium. They sit there and yell their [J-E-T-S] chant. That's the only word they know how to spell."

Prior to a Dolphins-Jets game in 2004: "A bunch of them chanting their dumb-### chant and all that other stuff, being the ignorant fans they are. I said it. I don't care if they get mad at me or not. They don't like me anyway. Quite frankly, I don't care. ... I'm just being real. I'm telling the truth. You carry yourself with some class, and we'll talk about you as if you've got class. If you want to act crazy and do all the crazy things they do, I'll call a spade a spade. ... Oakland is the same way, but I love playing there. But against [the Jets], it kind of gets on your nerves."

Even Fireman Ed weighs in....

Fireman Ed doesn’t want ‘meathead’ Taylor on Jets

Posted: April 8th, 2010 | Adam Rank

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez celebrates with Fireman Ed. (David Drapkin / Associated Press)

DE Jason Taylor is visiting the rival Jets for the second consecutive day, but one famed Jets fan is not pleased.

Not that this should be a surprise. Jets fans are expressive — to put it mildly. And let’s be honest, one of the highlights of the NFL Draft every April are the Jets fans booing their team’s latest selection. (Though that tradition was ruined when they drafted QB Mark Sanchez last year.)

Jets fan Ed Anzalone — better known as Fireman Ed — told the New York Daily News that he does not want Taylor to join his team. Anzalone notes that the Jets fans and Taylor have traded barbs over the years, with Taylor once saying that the Jets fans “take the ‘cl’ out of class.”

So having the former Dolphins defensive end on the team would be weird. Like Peyton Manning joining the Patriots. Tom Brady on the Colts. Or Brett Favre on the Vikings. (Two out of three is not bad.)

“He’s such a meathead,” Ed Anzalone told the Daily News.

“It’s hilarious. Let’s be real. This guy hates the Jets. He hates Jets fans more than anything. Put it this way: For him to even try to come here, it has to be two things: Nobody is bothering with him or he wants to win a championship. He wants to hop on board.”

But winning is winning. Anzalone went on to say that if Taylor did join the Jets, the fans would rally around him — if he plays well.

“I would get a kick out of it,” Fireman Ed said. “I don’t take these things too seriously. I have more hate for the Giants than I do Jason Taylor. Bottom line: If he performs, the fans will like him.”

THIS is just RIDICULOUS.......

This guy hates the NY Giants more than Jason Taylor :lmao:

Rumor has it this guy was a Dolphin fan as a kid, that would explain things but, come on, I enjoy and respect the NY Giants...

I do agree that the fans will like him if he contributes and we as fans have to believe Rex would put him in a position to succeed...

Also, funny to read all the Miami fans that would so quickly Hate JT if he went to the jets and some that are pissed off enough that he just visited... Saw some liks to Finheaven.com with Fin fans in an uproar.

Just read that the Jets even had LT help recruit JT today. From one guy who disappears in big games to another.
Have the Dolhins played in a big game while Taylor has been on the roster? :coffee: Local radio reported the Jets offered a 2 year, $3 M contract and Taylor will discuss with his family.Personally I have no problem with signing the "enemy", but think Taylor may be a washed up. I will trust Ryan and Tannenbaum on that though. It would make an interesting story at the very least.

Yeah, for a guy who's probably the 2nd greatest Dolphin ever, I'm surprised to see any Miami fans rip him.

anyone up for heckling him at training camp with me?

Seriously thinking about making the trek to upstate NY to do it.

I HATE Jason Taylor and he hates me.

Im all for a Taylor signing. Hes got to be a better pass rusher than Thomas was last year.

IMO, That was Shtick on his part and part of having fun with the fans..

If Rex Ryan thinks this guy has something left to add to the pass rush for 1.5 Mill or whatever it is per year, then I'm all for it - I've seen a lot more money spent on riskier projects than this....

He's the one who picked the fight though and he's the one eating everything he's said and putting on the GREEN!!!!!!!!

I kinda think this irks a Miami fan more than a Jets fan - especially if he succeeds and Wins....

Sounds close per PFT:

Report: Jason Taylor close to joining the Jets

Posted by Mike Florio on April 9, 2010 2:55 PM ET

In the wake of a belated April Fool's Day gag from Sid Rosenberg suggesting that defensive end Jason Taylor has signed with the Jets, Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that, indeed, the deal is "close to done."

Per the report, the remaining issues for discussion are the extent to which Taylor will participate in the offseason program.

The contract, if signed, will be worth $3.45 million over two years -- $1.5 million in 2010 and $1.95 million in 2011.

TLEF....

I'll go to training camp with you.... But, if he's still there lets dedicate our rage to Vernon Gholston - You know, the guy who actually ate up a huge chunk of Jets money and a draft pick and did nothing....

VG has hurt the Jets a lot more than JT over their careers.

1. Dan Marinothen...Csonka, Griese, Thomas, **** Anderson and Jake Scott...Taylor is great but I don't think of him as #2 right behind Marino.

See Post #24 Chase, I didn't rip him at all.

:goodposting: Jets fans. :lmao:

It's really HILARIOUS for Taylor to consider playing for the Jets? It's not like he has a million different places to choose from.

Ladanian Tomlinson is a stud in New York? Someone please remind him that the season hasn't started yet, and so far Tomlinson has 0 yards from scrimmage.

Another bizarre Stuart statement. Taylor is the 2nd greatest Dolphin ever? He's a borderline HOFer... how many HOFers do the Dolphins have? :lmao:

Jets fans...
