The NewsHead coach Eric Mangini wouldn't name a starting running back for the season opener, and indicated Sunday he may go with a committee approach at that position. Asked by the Star-Ledger if he had decided who would be the No. 1 running back, Mangini said they were still working on the game plan and that "some of that could be… package-based." Our ViewMangini is as tight-lipped as his mentor, Bill Belichick, so it's not surprising that he won't tip his hand regarding his backfield. Kevan Barlow and Derrick Blaylock are the two leading candidates to get the most time, but at this point we aren't likely to learn anything conclusive about the situation until game time on Sunday. We'll keep you posted this week if Mangini shows his cards, but your best bet is to avoid this situation entirely in week one.
