Pace to Jets for 6 years, $42 mil

Outside linebacker Calvin Pace has agreed to terms with the Jets on a six-year deal worth $42 million, including a $20 million signing bonus, according to ESPN.com.

Pace, who spent his first five seasons with the Cardinals, visited Miami and the Jets.

The contract is staggering considering Pace started just six games in the three seasons before last year. He became a starter last year after Chike Okeafor was injured in the preseason.

I thought Pace was 2nd best LB in free agency, but that's serious coinage!

Jets are going hard to change their status in a hurry. Now if only they can find a QB.

wow

A 20 million dollar signing bonus. CHA-CHING

I'll take Chris Long instead please

gllll peas.

Seriously, though, Pace looked as if the light went on last year. I've compared him to Bryan Thomas c.2006 elsewhere, but Pace was a much better all-around player than Thomas was in his contract year. The Jets defense has some upper tier talent in Harris, Rhodes and Revis; I'd like to see this one work out for them.

dang 22 mill guaranteed and he hardly even played until last year. get drafted in the first round and have one decent season and you hit the lottery.

What a terrible signing by the Jets. Terrible.

If they wanted an impact OLB/De hybrid all they had to do is draft Gholston.

I'd like to know what the next closest bid was. Asante Samuel at the money he got was much better spent than the money they spent on Pace.

pace COULD be an ascendant player, but that is a pretty big gamble on a relatively unproven player... very surprised at the amount of guaranteed money, but probably i shouldn't be given the nature of the escalating & upward spiraling salary cap...

They may draft Gholston anyway. The Giants showed the Jets how to beat NE.... put crazy pressure on Brady.

True, and I think that is the route they go if McFadden is not there. Could you imagine if Jake Long somehow fell to them at six? "Um, what do we do now?"...would never happen, but would be interesting to see what they would do.

Pace should send about Okeafor about 2mill atleast for getting hurt. not a bad deal for a guy who couldn't even start on his own horrid team w/out injuries infront of him taking place. Be nice to see what the deals look like for Gholston/Long compared to Pace's in a few months.

Pace got an $11 million signing bonus. His base pay for 2008 is $1.5 million. Why does anybody still believe anything ESPN puts up without confirmation???
