Not sure where the quote in the ESPN article came from, but I think they got it wrong. I watched an interview with Colletti right after the game last night. He says "Thome called me at 8:30 tonight." Colletti also says that he got an email for them Sox GM that morning telling him Thome was available.
Not sure why Thome would want to go from being among the league leaders in HR and RBI to a pinch hitter who might only see 30 AB the rest of the season.
