Jimmy Graham - Saints TE (1 Viewer)

I have a feeling this may be the last chance to pick him up cheaply. Shockey has yet to practice this week, and coming off a bye is usually the time when we'll be most likely to see a changing of the guard like this. Speculation on rotoworld is that they are going to try to do more with him. Listed at 6' 6" and 260, He may wind up being the best te prospect since Finley. The audible guys have been talking him up for a couple of weeks as well.

I often feel like they're extra in Payton's offense. Not all the time, but often.
Can't the same thing be said about the pre-Finley packers with Donald lee? Memory may be failing, but I don't remember him ever being a regular weekly start.

Yes, yes, and yes. The Saints have big plans for this guy. Big plans.I don't think he's got the full NFL skills set [blocking, routes, etc.] yet but he looks really goooooddd. He's already been added as a Sean Payton offensive wrinkle even with Shockey active.

I don't think so.Packers TEs have been good for a real long time-Jackson Chmura etc. Lee not doing well got him less looks, but it was a downward progression and not immediate. Lee (and other Packers TEs) had plenty of targets some years.Shockey is a very talented TE or was, but there's something there is my only point. Dave Thomas was once an up N comer. They had talent in NO. I'm not so much talking about targets but the actual feel of the game from the offense. I'm not sure I could show it in stats. When a team has a quality TE like Shockey and they're regularly throwing him a four five yard reception that turns into seven yards, that's just not how ya do it with TEs.I get it. They won a Supe and were a great offense, but we're just talking TE here.

I'm not sure it's safe to say that the Saints have always thought of the TE as an afterthought. One has to think that the team brought Shockey over to be a major weapon for Brees, but it hasn't happened. I don't think anyone would disagree that, even injuries aside, he's not the same explosive player he was in his early years with the Giants. That is not to say that Graham will become a big-time target of Brees, but I don't think they drafted him in the 3rd round as a raw prospect just to be a glorified blocker.

Shockey with the Giants when Peyton was OC - not an afterthought. Shockey was younger and more spry then; he's a different, lumbering guy now.I don't know if *now* is the time for Graham, but if he has a big game it could happen. And he will be a FF TE to have one day.

Remember Brees with Gates?

Graham has been playing football for 2 years now - the Saints invested a high round pick in him. I think this week could be huge for him.

first- i haven't felt like cam cleeland and wesley walls were there in a long time.second- Probably their intentions but it's hard to say if they don't send him, how will they know his impact? Chicken or the egg thing. I think Payton fell in love with the speed of Bush and the WRs and simply put some big burly TE rolling over the middle just doesn't flow with what he's doing. Maybe, probably, in the red zone when the field is shorter and the angles those speed demons can take advantage of are reduced. I'm sure he likes the idea of any DC spending time planning for Shockey or TE and occupying a defender that could be double-teaming his WRs, who wouldn't.We'll see what happens, I just ...I don't know how else to put it.GL with Graham.

The Saints spent a 2 and a 5 on Shockey and they spent a 3 on Graham. They traded a 7 for Thomas. -> They are trying to accomplish something here. But when Shockey was with the Giants he was a downfield play, he could run medium-deep posts, he could do 20+ yard down and outs. With the Saints he is part of the RB/TE/WR extension of the running game that the Saints do. He occasionally still does a very nice 20 yard route over the middle where he just blocks out the safeties and corners, he has been extremely effective for what he does. He is always past the 1st down marker, always. He's just not a downfield threat. Graham would be a downfield threat and an upgrade in the end zone. This would be another weapon in the arsenal. If he were the starter I'd probably pick him up right now but obviously Shockey will still be playing this year and he will be getting his so Graham's just not there yet.

Sigmund is saying the potential is there for Graham to be a big-time contributor during the 2nd half - he could boom or bust - I put him in my lineup so I don't have to worry about picking him up after this weekend if he explodes.

Brees could lock on to him in the redzone- there is no WR1 in this offence.

Shockey out for Sunday...

METAIRIE, La. — Saints running back Reggie Bush is listed as questionable for the Saints’ Sunday home game against NFC West-leading Seattle.

He’s one of five injured New Orleans players listed with a possibility of playing against the Seahawks.

However, free safety Darren Sharper (hamstring), running back Pierre Thomas (ankle) and tight end Jeremy Shockey (ribs) are out after not practicing on Friday.

Bush has been listed as limited all week and was again Friday. Running back Chris Ivory (shoulder) was limited but is probable while cornerback Patrick Robinson (ankle), defensive back Malcolm Jenkins (neck) were limited and listed as questionable. Right tackle Jon Stinchcomb (knee) was full and is probable.

Sombody posed a question on twitter for Jeff Duncan (local beat writter)

jeffduncantp I would say, yes, especially this week. RT @abridgel: Are the saints going to make Jimmy Graham a bigger part of the gameplan?

I'm going to start him in 2 leagues over Pettigrew in one league and Cooley in the other.

I love taking a risk as such. Keep in mind I lost J. Finley in both leagues. So I'm hoping for Jimmy that this is the start of something big for him.

crazy question, but would you start him over Tony Gonzalez, Gates and McMichael? Currently have TGonz and Gates on my roster.

The only bad thing about owning Tamme is not being able to start this kid this week. A small part of me hopes that Indy rests TAmme this week to bring him back to full speed next week, so i can start Graham this week in both leagues. I may even take a chance and start Graham in 1 league over Tamme. I'm very high on Graham.

In either event, i have taken Graham in every league for defensive purposes.

My only droppable names are Freeman (peyton backup), Randy Moss, and maybe mcmichael (have gates). Keeper league, so he could be money, and if he goes off this weekend I will have missed my window due to typical squandering of my blind bid money. Freeman may have to go - but I'd be totally screwed if I drop him for a 3rd te and then manning goes down.

I'm in desperate need of a te in my td heavy ppr league so I just picked this guy up. He looked like a potential stud in the making in college.

I thought I was set with Shiancoe at TE but this kid looks interesting.. might start him over Shiancoe if I can build up the stones to do it

I dropped Caddy for him in a redraft league. I have Heap after losing Findley. Not sure if I am starting him over Heap vs Carolina but he is definitley worht a spot and if he goes off, no way I can get him next week

I have this kid on my dynasty taxi squad and love his future upside potential. I see Shockey may be out and saw the reporter's twitter update that says he will be more involved....is there any other reason so many of you think he will break out this week?...or is this just hopeful speculation?

This feels like a good risk to take this week. Pick him up and if Shockey is coming back next week and/or Graham puts up nothing, then you just release him back to the wild. But if he puts up some numbers, you may not have a shot.

This is an example of why I love footballguys. I follow fantasy football a lot, but probably wouldn't have picked him up (or known he's a potential breakout this week under the circumstances) without it :-)

He's a beast, as a saints fan and multiple JG owner I'm excited to see what he can do with more snaps

Edited to add I really believe this guy is gonna be a BIG piece in this offense in the years to come, and he's a great dynasty buy. How many TEs get their number called on end arounds and reverses

Not to steal any thunder but Aaron Hernandez has ran a couple of reverses this year.

I smell breakout!

I still say that before long I'll be regretting this dynasty draft pick a lot less than I was last month:

2.07 19. Smackdown Graham, Jimmy NOS TE ® Wed May 5 9:45:00 a.m. CT 2010 16.10

2.08 20. Bada Bing Hernandez, Aaron NEP TE ® Wed May 5 11:11:10 a.m. CT 2010 58.70

Cutting my 3rd round pick long ago stings in hindsight too lol

3.03 27. Smackdown Blount, LeGarrette TBB RB ® Wed May 5 4:12:32 p.m. CT 2010 58.80

Some local buzz on Graham

http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2010/...t_end_j_17.html

New Orleans Saints rookie tight end Jimmy Graham should again play a prominent role Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks as the backup behind veteran David Thomas. Graham stepped up with the best game of his young career after starter Jeremy Shockey went down with bruised ribs two weeks ago at Carolina, catching three passes for 49 yards, including his first career touchdown. And two weeks before that, he caught a career-high four passes for 38 yards at Tampa Bay.

10. Fearless prediction for Week 11: Thanks to Jabari Greer for redeeming my fearless prediction of a Pick Six in Week 9. Now that I'm riding a hot streak, it's time to really get bold. ... Jimmy Graham will make a SportsCenter-highlight reel play this week. Mark it down. The rookie tight end has gradually seen his role increase as the season has progressed. He scored his first touchdown against Carolina two weeks ago. With Jeremy Shockey sidelined with a rib injury, opportunity knocks for Graham. He wowed fans with some spectacular plays during training camp and something tells me he's going to make one to remember against Seattle.

Something I struggle with this kind of threads is figuring out if a guy is right for all types of leagues or maybe just dynasty or larger leagues.

This guy sounds like he has great potential, but would he be worth starting this week in a 10 team redraft?

I suppose it would depend on your options... though I don't think the style of league matters. Keeper, Redraft or Dynasty, if you start him week 10, you're expecting production.I had intended to start him over Gates and McMichael.. but now that Gates is questionable, I am likely going to hold out until Monday night.

Hoping that Shockey isn't ready to go on Thursday. Graham could put up some numbers on Thanksgiving Day in what could be a shootout versus the Cowboys.

Kinda glad he didn't score ... want to pick up Graham in a keep-6 league full of Saints homers. He was actually drafted back in August, but cut later on.

I pretty much watched the whole game. I started him in both leagues. My regular starters barely out pointed him. But this kid has mad skills. For first year TE's or emerging TE's like Tamme I prefer him Dynasty wise. I love his skillset and the hasn't reached his potential. Here's hoping that Peyton uses him more than Shockey going forward.

The kids smokes defenders and has soft hands. At times he looks wide eyed like wow I'm really here.

I didn't see the game or any highlights - how did he look? I know he had 5 for 72 but how did it look?

Any redzone looks?

I'm probably rolling with him as a starter for the rest of the year.
